Crafting an owl sculpture out of birch wood

Here is me making a fantasy owl sculpture from my own design. This wood carving is made out of birch wood for those who wonders.
Up next might be a bird feeder or something else than a sculpture. I know myself well enough to say that it is going to be about three days of a lot of back and forth between ideas. Lets hope i figure out a good one.

Tools used:
Bandsaw: Rec BS350 Bandsaw
Dremel: Dremel 3000 (with a flexible shaft attachment)
Merlin2 Mini grinder with a Tungsten Carbide Coarse Disc attached.
Dremel bits:
- 1/4" Inch sanding drum
- 1/2" inch sanding drum
- Fine diamond bur
Oil:
Liberon Finishing oil

Thank you very much Bobby! I was not aware of this owl from The secret of nym, but i can see the similarities :) I am always having some kind of emotion i want to capture in my designs, but i can never predict how it will look in the end :)

🤯....I Soo want to be a smart ass but I am too mind blown at how that piece turned out. Too cool. My favorite piece so far. Makes me wish for a full griffin. Perhaps with a bobcat face since you've covered the eagle and the owl. 4 wings? Perhaps a mask? Jakalope?

Your art is incredible as always, and you manage to convey such a wonderful comedic tone without a single word of spoken dialogue. Your expressions and movements sell the ideas so well and it's an absolute blast to watch. I was expecting a fan inside the box, blowing mail all over the shop :) Exceptional work with this owl! You have me flashbacks to my druid in World of Warcraft, he looks a lot like your statue when he's in his flying form :)

Haha well unfortunately no fan mail xD Yeah my designs are very minimalistic and i usually dont work with endges sharper that 90 degrees. perhaps that is why :D

It's interesting how you use the rotary carver while working. It's almost like a knife when peeling a potato or apple, instead of holding it like a pencil or pen.

Absolutely amazing, the skill you have to be able to see the sculpture and then bring it out with mostly just a sanding disc is awesome. I love the jokes too lol 😂 don't ever stop 👍👍👍😂👍👍👍
