Hugely useful. KZfaq has several repairs and tear downs of air and electric wrenches, but this is the first I have found which covers the drive rod and ratchet head. It was not previously clear to me how the final drive of these tools works. Many thanks.

My ratchet failed on the inlet valve the plastic piece on valve broke. It cost me more for the parts than a new one. I had this since I started my first mechanic job it was over 30 years old. I ordered parts for a newer similar ratchet to fix it. Sentimental value you know and let my son use it after I repaired it. He was surprised how quick and powerful it was. Great video

This ratchet appears to be identical to one I bought today (scratched 1953) that looks like a vintage Campbell Hausfeld design, and seems to have been used by Craftsman, Harbor Freight, and other sellers. Nice teardown.

This film was interesting. I bought a Craftsman air compressor and air tool kit about 16 years ago. The kit included the impact, the ratchet, and the air hammer with an hose and various connectors. The air tools are all Taiwan-made and I reckon this when the quality of Taiwan-made tools was improving. The specs for the ratchet are 140 rpm at the standard 90 psi; I wouldn't mind a faster rpm ratchet. I reckon I'll need to watch the film you made on the Earthquake imoacting ratchet, 200 rpms for the price seems to be a good value. The specs for the impact are 230 ft-lbs. I thought that was kind of weak because it wouldn't break the lugs free on my trucks until I discovered the mechanics at the shop doing the tire balancing and rotation services were over tightening the lugs.

Maybe a video about where to find replacement parts to repair this ratchet (preferably metal vs plastic, if available). And then a test run of the ratchet in action. Enjoyed the video. Thanks.

These Japanese made Craftsman air tools seem to be of good quality. I have a 1/2" Japanese made Craftsman impact wrench (early to mid nineties vintage) didn't use it for decades. I recently used it to remove a stubborn axle nut that I was unable to loosen with a new M18 Milwaukee Mid Torque 1/2" impact wrench. I would think that air impact tools will outlast their cordless electric counterparts which have more complex motors/electronics as well as batteries that will eventually fail or be replaced by newer technology rendering the tool obsolete.

Great video, but you did not show the removal of the upper bearing, which I cannot get to come out on my craftsman air ratchet. Any tips?

What rpm do you think the air drives the rotor inside at? I ask as I'm looking into using an air ratchet for another application where replace the air powered rotor with a machined adapter to use a direct drive AC motor. Thanks for the video!

The vanes are phenolic, pretty easy to remake if you have the right thickness stock. The trigger on my IR air ratchet also failed. I replaced the parts using metal ones from another tool.

Do you know what size ball and o-ring were in the trigger? It would seem that a steel ball would make a ratchet serviceable again.
