I personally like to use the BlockCarpentry mod along side a mod like Rechiseled to allow for better shapes and better textures.

Try doing a system for the railroad crossing by having one on one both sides, and having the crossing go down when the train goes over one side and go back up when the train crosses over the other side.

Hey crafty i think you should use framed blocks mod and copycat panel from create mod to make trains because in that way you can make trains look nore realistic and have more space inside locomotives/coaches for building seats and other decorations.

Are you able to hollow out the rear of the genesis and add a horn? (redstone link from cab to rear, goes under cab floor and activates horn in back)

Unfortunately redstone links don't work on contraptions or trains. The best you can do is add a steam whistle which is activated with the sprint key while driving the train
