It seems alvin is getting players that will thrive under toccet rather than pure star power. I think that's the smarter move

Its their only option with how much cap space they have to work with

They also seem to be methodically locking in their core players for 6-8 years, adding DeBrusk as a core piece (they hope) for 7 years. This will start to pay off in coming years as salaries escalate. Some people thought they committed to much to sign J.T. long term. Now he looks like a bargain. DeBrusk will turn into a bargain. I am guessing so will Hronic by years 2 or 3. Petey hopefully going forward. What they won't do is sign a Tanev till he's 40. Boston locked in Zadorov till he's 35, $5mil for a 4/5 defenceman, Lindholm till he's 36. That may make sense for the Bruins but didn't for the Canucks management. I also like that they're building a Tocchet team. The Canucks were way too soft 3+ years ago. Now they are prioritizing grit and tenacity & DeBrusk is a sign of that. Too bad Big Z got priced out. $4mil X 5 might have worked but not $5 X 6 for that role.

@@DavidAllison-qs8wn everyone that said Millers contract was bad was dumb. I felt weird having to defend that contract

@@BrodyCanuck Agreed. Some guys really come through on a contract, others just want the payday. Miller is earning it and then some. I think (hope) DeBrusk might be like that. A lot of that is Tocchet. Guys want to play hard for him. Players who don't deliver are moved on. If Miller had been a UFA this year on July 1 somebody would have paid him $11+ mil, 6 years, easy. He's locked-in on a team that he leads instead. That is building something good. It's not just the money. Players want to win. I like a team that cultivates loyalty. I used to respect Tampa but they sorta crapped on Stamkos, who deserved better after 16 years. So they got Guentzel. But future players will remember that. Burning francise players is bad. I remember when the Canucks did that to Linden, then sucked with Messier. Bad mojo.

Steve Dangle referring to the Canucks signing DeBrusk as being the best deal for the Maple Leafs on day one of free agency tells you a lot about what kind of player they just signed. All he does is score goals, whether it's in the regular season or when the checking gets tighter in the playoffs. I'm honestly happier about signing DeBrusk for term at age 27, than the older skill guys the Canucks were rumoured to be after. He hasn't had an elite centre to play with for a few years in Boston, so he should fill the net on the top lines of Vancouver.

I completely agree and watching him closely playing Toronto knowing he'd be available and the Canucks have always been rumored to be interested I was very impressed with his whole game. DeBrusk was extremely fast and on top of Leafs players immediately playing like he was possessed and winning most puck battles, driving to the net hard and sniping when needed. Playing with Petey who I think will be back as good or better than ever will be a great fit getting in on the forcheck and making space all while being able to bring enough skills to gel with him also. If it's Hoglander who I see taking more steps with them we know how great Hoglander's speed and forcheck is with the high skill level I really see that line causing other teams fits and producing big time!

Are thumbs technically fingers? Is the thumb a finger and what is its function? The thumb is one of five digits on each hand, but it has a different shape and function from the other digits. However, most medical guides refer to the thumb as a finger.

He showed up in the bubble playoffs - led the team. So your saying, based on one weak playoff performance, in a year where he scored 89 points (over 100 the year before) , the Canucks should ditch him? Pretty weak logic.

If you can afford that kind of talent you better figure out how to protect him.Would you drive a Rolls through Surrey without insurance.Get him a pair of big wingers and Petey may consistantly surpass 100 points. We have all seen he has that kind of skill so stop using him as a punching bag.In the playoffs he spent most of his ice time on his ass.Could see how he might lose heart. When you have the big dogs opening up the ice everybody plays a little bigger.I think that's all Petey needs.

Luke was right Canucks are a joke. And like the sabres they will never win a cup..alvin is a dolt, The owners are a joke don't spend money on marquis players..lindh9lm/zadorov/ their best players in playoffs and wont sign them is proof of there incompetence. Wouldnt give z an extra 300k to stay? Owners dont have winning mentality and never spend. Dont say the cap, they can make room. The best forward theyve had in 30 years is marcus naslund..messier didnt count..its a loser franchise for a loser city. Luke was right. Managing money doesnt win cups spending does. Unfortunately canada will never win a stanley cup again. Welcome to the new nhl where american owners buy cups$$$

DeBrusk is good when he is in the right head space. He had opportunities while in BOS to prove himself and play with a top center (Bergeron) for years and he couldn't break through. He's streaky and moody. I'm glad he is no longer a Bruin. I see him not living up to Tocc's perception resulting in clashes. By year two he will begging to get traded.
