Good reaction. now for my 2 cents...The state ran a road right through our ranch, we had to get more than 1000 cattle across that friggin road and drivers honking and hollering really did make us not rush. People on both sides need to be courteous, we tried to hurry, even cutting the herd into batches, we didn't choose to have a road cut through our living.

There alot of good points being made by the farmers on here Most of us will pull over if we can. But someone acting like a jerk is not going to make us want to do it sooner. If you know the farmers are out there stop being a jerk and take a different route We try to do the best we can and still get our stuff done so we can get our harvest in. Also don't honk at our animals. You scaring them makes it take longer for you to get through.

With all the weight we are carrying it's not always safe to pull over cause the side of ditch can't always withstand the weight and we could tip.

Some of the issues I have run into is the equipment is to big and there is not enough shoulder with a steep ditch to get off the road. Also if you pull over and some moron does something stupid and crashes, it can be at fault for the equipment operator
@kristinbrown3398

I totally agree! Even if they didn't get in legal trouble they would have that on their mind for the rest of their lives. Plus some roads have too deep of a ditch for any big equipment to pull off safety.

Just because we car drivers at road level think farmers should pull over, doesn't mean we are aware of the hazards that might be hidden. Sometimes you gotta just enjoy the ride.
@lindaharris1892

I love the comments from the farmers that drive their equipment on the road. This is so true, only the driver knows the issues they have to be aware of when driving equipment in the roads. Yes, I have been behind those drivers and I realize that they will move over when it's safe for them to do so. I also realize that if they were constantly pulling over they would never get where they needed to be. Everyone has their opinion, but Keith I have to disagree with yours about Craig driving an International Harvester. I won't hold it against you though.

Speaking of “lifetime sponsor of the FFA”, when I was in FFA, I was competing in Prepared Public Speaking, and I wrote my speech comparing different brands of tractor/harvesters, and filled it entirely with country song lyrics, and paid homage to Craig Morgan who was in FFA himself, and it was hands down my favorite FFA experience. It was titled, ironically enough, “she thinks my tractor’s sexy” after the Kenny Chesney song

I can go on and on awhile! Why it's not a good idea for one of them combines to pull off the side of the road! Is the ditch wet and the combine gets stuck! Will the header hit the up side of the ditch and mess up the header! Ect... Them combines cost between $300,000 and 500,000+. Would you drive your fancy sports car in the ditch? And especially if you had one that cost between $300,000 and $500,000+. Just a header would cost $50,000 to 125,000+ to replace and that's 5 years ago!! No telling these days!

What some others said... I've done crop harvesting, in my case citrus, tomatoes, strawberries etc. Drivjng a tractor with trailer from harvest point to gathering point. In many places there was no way to pull off without getting stuck.. extra money during high school. For a time my mom managed a stables/ feed store / ranch. The grazing area was cut in half by a dirt road the county was trying to get paved between new subdivisions and town. ( I was in Elementary and Jr high @ that time.) So people used the 'short cut', but would honk and gripe about the cattle in the middle of the dirt road, that had formerly been part of the ranch. For the big combines and stuff, the sides of the roads might not hold the weight and would make one unholy backup as tow rigs tried to pull it onto the road.

Farmers have a small window every year to get their field work done. If they don't get their crops put up they loose a whole years wages. I think for couple of days in the spring when they're planting and a couple of days in the fall when they are harvesting we can give them some grace let do their jobs so the rest of us can eat. Not to mention that most roads the farmers are driving on aren't wide enough for them to pull off safely.

Kind of agree with both statements. I'm not gonna tick someone off just because I can. But there may not always be a place to pull over right away at and I may not have all day to pull over all the time. I try to, but that being said, it's perfectly legal for a tractor with a slow moving triangle to be on the road. So I'll pull over when I notice enough cars behind me, when I see a place to pull over, or when I know there's no dotted line coming up for a while. Anyways, keep up the great work guys! I always found this song a little corny...I'm a cattle and hay farmer. We're not too bright. Did I just make a pun?

For two steaks, grab a zip lock bag, cut up one onion, one jalapeño, 3 cloves of garlic, salt, pepper, Worcester sauce, soy sauce. In one zip lock bag place two steaks, pour in one chopped onion onion , garlic, and jalapeño. Pour in bourbon, Worcester and soy sauce. Salt and pepper. Marinate overnight in fridge. When you wake up flip over to mix up. Am hour before grilling, pull steak out of marinade. Pat dry. Cut hole In ziplock back to drain. Reclaim onions and jalapeños and garlic. Press garlic into steak. Place onions and jalapeño on top of steak, slow grill, will be fork tender and butter knife worthy

Here in Upstate NY I see a lot of tractors on the road, but I knew the world had changed a few years back when I was driving on a back country road and I could see a big tractor in the opposite lane coming towards me with a line of cars behind it, and as I was about to pass it I went to wave at the farmer and noticed that while he was chugging along at 5 mph with all those cars behind him he had his face buried in a phone and he was scrolling and texting away. 😄

It cuts both ways. There are some that get lost in their heads thinking about what they need to do after they get where they're going (or just day dreaming), and don't stay as far right as possible or pull over when they can to let traffic by. The other side is being on a 2-lane, no shoulder, no place to pull off, and people in such a hurry that they make poor (and sometimes flat dangerous) driving decisions around expensive farm equipment. A combine can cost upwards of $350,000, often representing a bigger dollar investment than the farmer's HOUSE.

Ok, I can see two perspectives to the the road rage. One I guess you guys have never been on one of those tractors where as soon as you get on the road, every 2 minutes you are getting people weave side to side, honk there horns, scream profanity at you, speed up on you and hit there brakes. There may not be room for me to pull off to the side of the road while I continue on my journey. I will not pull over and stop just because you failed to do just diligence and plan for unexpected delays in your travels. I got a job to do, just like you.

Not a farmer, but I live in Kansas (where this video was actually filmed btw!) and I am friends with a lot of farmers, I live near a lot of farms. In general, farmers try to avoid even getting on the road as much as possible. For one thing, it's dangerous for them to be on the road in those things as people from the city are NOT patient and they are risking themselves or someone else being hurt. But, a lot of times the state or the government (eminent domain) has built these roads directly through these farmers fields and so they have to drive along them at some point. Typically they will pull off out of the way for people to pass them, but they are actively working to get their work done and even with tractors having lights and things now, they generally only have daylight hours to get what they gotta get done, done. And during planting/harvest most farmers are literally working from 4am to midnight, taking care of livestock, plowing fields, whatever. You can easily avoid running into them if you stick to the interstate like the lyrics in the song, a lot of times even state highways you won't run into them (even if they were those are pretty big and they drive on the far right so you can easily and safely pass), they're on the rural highways and such.

Regarding the left-lane bandits: I think a lot of people aren't aware that it is a law (at least it is in Ohio) that the left lane is for passing and emergency vehicles only. I've had friends question me on why I wouldn't just pick the left lane and stay there. When I told them it was technically illegal for me to just hang out in the left-hand lane, they tried to argue I was wrong until I got my hands on a BMV student handbook and showed them the law.

I echo the comments of other posters here. We try to be as courteous as possible during harvest time, but sometimes it's impossible and/or dangerous to try to move the machinery off the road and onto a soft shoulder or there IS no shoulder. Ideally, we wouldn't have to drive on the roads so much, but a lot of fields are not contiguous, and we can't drive through our crops! Driving on the road is the only option. Sitting higher than passenger cars and most pickup trucks, we can see oncoming traffic and will do our best to wave drivers on when it's safe to do so. What irritates me is the people who pass us at high speed not being able to see the other lane ahead and oncoming traffic. An accident waiting to happen because they're impatient. All this said we have A LOT of work to do in the season with time constraints of our own. I've been stuck behind other drivers of farm machinery, but I also try to be patient with them, understanding that they're doing the same thing I am. Trying to get the harvest in! Shout out to all the fellow farmers out there!

My husband has been on both sides of this. Sharing the road with farm implements is really common around here. For the most part, tractors pull over as far as they can when other vehicles are coming. This is Texas, so we drive friendly and wave as we go by. (It's important to use all of your fingers.) But, there are the "chose few", who drive their 300,000+ tractors down the road like they own the sonuvabitch. We've been behind them. Annoying. Especially if you're running late. The real issue is these days people leave late n drive like hell(unsafely) to get there early. Everyone is in a rush...for what...death? I have a small by today's standards combine and it has a 26' wide head, and I'm on the left side driving and cannot see the right side, pulling over could land me in the ditch or knocking mailboxes off. I have no issue with the people that are, as you said, kind enough to pull over and understand that other people have places to be as well. But just chugging along and forcing others to be late because you think you deserve the entire damn road, that pisses me off.

Since it’s harvest season right now, we are in our tractors and combines. The country is our area the city’s are yours. This is our work area, stay outa the country this time of year if you’re in a hurry. I’ve been known to swerve a little bit towards drivers being dicks or throwing stuff at me.

When it’s harvest time, we don’t care. We’re trying to get to one field from another. Of course we’ll pull over to let people by. Every farmer can relate to this song cause we all at some point have been flipped off, pissed people off and this song is kinda our way to imagine we’re sayin fuck y’all. We’re on the job 24 hours a day. No such thing as a weekend or vacation.
