The issued sleeping bags are Carinthia Defence 4. The bivy bags and tarps are carried over from the old M/84 camouflage system.

The new light infantry was formed to bridge the gap with and support special forces overseas, I guess they could be considered a light variant of SFSG. Before that we only had mechanised/armoured infantry, and a recce battalion that deployed in armoured cars. However, the light infantry soon got ATVs to support their logistics in combat and trucks for transport outside of combat, so in a way they're starting to become closer to motorised infantry. We did keep motorised infantry throughout the Cold War, and I believe the Danish Home Guard still has some of those units, although the Danish Army is fully mechanised besides this battalion. I know the British Army still retains a lot of Light Role Battalions, but I suspect they also have some sort of unarmoured vehicles for use outside of combat. I know the American light infantry is also more or less motorised, with Humvees or MRAPs, so not exactly foot soldiers.

Thank you for the info, and yes British army is similar the guys are light role but yes they have trucks and land rovers available for resupply etc. I was just surprised that all the danish army was armoured or mechanised and only recently got light role units

Motorised infantry in the Home Guard has been converted to Light Infantry. So it's much the same but on a volunteer basis.

@@Viva-Cristo-Rey- Do they still go around in GDs or did the unit composition also change with the new name? Because as far as I know, the Home Guard infantry was always just called “infantry” without any type (mechanised, armoured, light) specified. I just call them motorised because that is what they are from a technical standpoint (mounted in unarmoured vehicles and fight dismounted). Just like the Army’s “light infantry” is actually more like motorised infantry, since they’re still meant to use trucks for mobility (although I hear they don’t have enough military trucks, so they often rent civilian busses instead…)

@@danishdefencedocumentaries3996 Only motorised recon (MOTOV) has GD's. Where I am serving used to be MOTINF with the troops being transported on trucks. But now it's light infantry. We are not allowed to transport troops on trucks any more. So now it's "tactical busses"😂 and walking. Not enough vehicles to go around either. It's pretty frustrating.

I think it is the new internet generation.. I was Danish infantry in the 80s. We killed chickens, and much more, and according to the law we had to stun them first, and that with a stick found in the forest, and then we cut off the head with our pocket knife, took the jacket off the chicken, small pieces of meat, and 45 min. later it was in the stomach, and the same with a rabbit. There are many basic things that young people today do not understand, or have tried, or have any feeling for..! ;-) We didn't have a Finnish sauna, or any other sauna, we took the rain over us, sat down, and lit an alcohol tablet between the legs, and opened up at the neck, then you dried slowly, and got the heat. Fire was standard in many forms we had with us.. What we see is totally different from during the cold war, when there was a tight pace and direction. It was standard, at least in the combat troops Denmark's infantry, and everyone went through it, and what is worse than it showed. During the cold war there were foot troops who only had trucks in some cases, pretty much everything was on foot.. Survival technique, interrogation, where we had a hood tied in front of the face, and water poured over it, so you couldn't breathe. Not eating for several days, holding one's head under the wheel of a vehicle which was driven towards the cheek, etc., was normal training, such as learning throat cutting (two ways), and killing with a knife by several methods, and technique.

My father was in the air force in 1953-54. They did this and more - 100 km march, etc. Some of their instructors was from the German army and my father told of an incident when his company was sent out marching on a frozen river. They ended up in the freezing water and half of the company ended up in hospital with pneumonia.

Seeing the soldiers having fun in the cold made me think of a video I have watched many hilarious reactions to, about Danish forest kindergartens: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gNGZnM1qybDKk6s.html With a little tongue-in-cheek you could say that the training for light infantry starts with the light infancy, so perhaps that video should be next in line for a Combat Ready HQ reaction? 😆

We dod transfer to only mech and arm. Historically we had them. In fact Jægerkorpset started as a light Infantry unit back in the days.

I think the old Jaegers Corps (there were 5 corps, where the current one carries the lineage of the 2nd) were more along the lines of Rifles or Rangers, since we also had several Light Battalions back in the day. It sounds like the Jaegers even back then were elite, like the British Rifles, with higher standards compared to regular infantry and they were permanent units that also existed in peacetime, and adopted rifled muskets earlier than the rest of the army. The Jaeger Corps (plural) were redesignated as Infantry Battalions in 1860, although I know a few units carried on the Jaeger title right up to 1961 when the modern Jaeger commando/SF concept begun. We also have to remember that even regular line infantry used to walk their way to and around the battlefield, so light units back then were more about different tactics (open order and skirmishing) than being foot mobile.

Slesvigske fodregiment is NOT a new regiment. Might be theyve changed the way they train, but they have roots that go back decades, centuries. We always used to joke about them when we as mech or armored enginers complained about our vehicles..
@danishdefencedocumentaries3996
@danishdefencedocumentaries3996 Ай бұрын
It is a new regiment because it was reformed in 2019 after being disbanded in 2000. It was only called “Slesvigske Fodregiment” since 1951 anyway, it had multiple different designations prior to that. In any case, the current light infantry concept that XIII Battalion fulfills is new within the Danish Army.

@@heinedenmark Its (an attempt at) a poke at the attacks on "woke" from people who cant even define the term. Plz dont ask me of a definition, I cant. But this topic have been linked to it more than once: The US armies have changed policies recently; the doctrine of yelling and screaming drill-seargants is a thing of the past. And now they complain that the army is woke. As a soldier; were all in it together. And im here(I was, my time in the army is now in a distant past) because I want to be here. Theres no reason to scream people in the face to make em do things they volunteered for. It probaly worked with conscripts 50 years ago in wartime. But were way past that zetgeist. Show respect and you recieve respect. Scream at people and theyl flip the bird on you. It has nothing to do with "woke" - Its just good decent human behavior.

schleswig is german and not the right name.

@danishdefencedocumentaries3996 Ай бұрын
It is Schleswig because I translated it that way when I did the subtitles, and Schleswig is the name used in English. We don't even use Slesvig in Danish anymore, we call it Sønderjylland. Think about these English names for Danish areas: Jutland, Funen, Zealand. Do you think they sound more like the Danish: Jylland, Fyn, Sjælland, or the German: Jutland, Fünen, Seeland? There are obviously many Danish regions with English names derived from German rather than Danish.

Come on, that's a bit petty, isn't it? In English they also say Copenhagen for København, just like we say Tyskland for Germany. Slesvig is Slesvig no matter how you spell it. Moin!

"Schleswig is partially German, with the border of the old Duchy of Schleswig going up to Haderslev. However, Schleswig was divided after World War I following a plebiscite among the population, which moved the border between Germany and (southern Schleswig) to where it is now. Northern Schleswig is what we know as Southern Jutland."
