The drill instructors are working that hard because they are demonstrating the urgency, speed, and intensity that they expect from the recruits during times of chaos. The drill instructors do not expect more from the recruits that they themselves are not capable or willing to do

I was convinced they were robots. You NEVER see them eat, sleep, or smile. Yet they are ALWAYS around, and see and hear EVERYTHING. They demand instant obedience to orders and perfection and will expect nothing less!

@@CombatReadyHQ They are simply some of the most impressive people you'll ever meet. They keep that insane intensity 12 plus hour days, 6 days a week for months. The sacrafice is insane, for them and their families. Plus its one of the most recgonized branches on the planet with an incredible history. The stress of throwing that cover on and now you are expected to have all the answers and to be perfect in everything you do. Your the gatekeeper of that legacy. Everywhere you go, everything you do has dozens if not hundreds of eyes on you constantly.

I went through MCRD San Diego in 1969, and it what I have noticed is that nowadays the DIs do a lot more intense yelling. Back then, they used to shout once in a while, but if they wanted your attention they would just smack you real hard. For example, a knife hand to the throat while they tell you to, "Quit eye-fu**ing the area, mother fu**er." Lots of fun.

Honestly I think the way they showed Black Friday was pretty tame. I went through Parris Island in 2013 and I still vividly remember what happened on Black Friday. Everyone had their footlockers dumped out and the Drill Instructors kicked everyone's stuff around the squad bay which made it an absolute shit show to find your stuff XD I lost my social security card during that and didnt find it until 3 days before graduation, and only because another Marine(we had already become Marines at this point and were only waiting on graduation) found it tucked inside their footlocker beneath everything else.

I understand where you’re coming from when you say it’s too disorienting when they’re screaming and rushing you around, but context is important here. The video shows “Black Friday”, the day the recruits meet their drill instructors. It’s loud and disorienting, and that’s the point. It’s meant to be a high stress environment. All of your stuff will be out of place and a mess after this. It gets squared away later, incrementally and methodically so every recruit knows exactly what they have and where it’s kept.

When I went through US Air Force basic training you could look forward to having the barracks tossed around as the Military Training Instructors felt like doing, you had 15 minutes to get it squared away, even the beds were tossed everywhere and wall lockers dumped on their faces, normally this happened during our KP duty, we would come back to a pissed off MTI demanding it be squared away in 15 minutes. Team work is how we did it!!!@@CombatReadyHQ

I received punishment because I was laughing A LOT. DI's are actually very funny, believe it or not. If they like you, and you have let's say a big nose, they might nickname you Private Snorkel. Yes when they say “ears” you say “open sir” basically you’re listening . Same with “eyeballs”, at Parris island we said “snap sir” basically saying your eyeballs are on them and you’re watching. You’ll hear it everyday😎. At San Diego they say “ready move” at Parris island they’d say “ ready “ and you’d scream “pain” then they’d say “move” and you’d scream “discipline” something I noticed when watching boot camp videos from San Diego.

When you first arrive, those DI's are not your training DI's. They are "receiving" DI's. These DI's are on their way out of the Corps or are transitioning into other assignments. The first week in just in processing. Taking written tests to see how smart/dumb you are, physical exams, dental exams. There are 13 training weeks. The first week doesn't count as a training week. You don't see your permanent DI's until about your 8th day, that's when the fun starts.

Ears..open sir (listen to me) eyeballs...click sir, means you look at the DI...The intensive scene in the middle happens a few days in. They have been in receiving...haircuts, medical, paperwork, kit issue etc. Taught to brush teeth and shave (some of these kids would surprise you) They're all wearing 'go fasters'or trainers, so bottom of the totem pole. They then get transferred to their platoon squad bay, senior DI gives intro speech and then they meet their DIs who tear them a new one in shock and awe. Its called a DI ambush...you might have 4 screaming around your head. Then they get to wear boots, cadillacs for black, jungle boots for canvas, desert. Training begins!

Ears: "open sir" Eyeballs:"clear sir" About your comment during the linen exchange for the bed. It's not a shock and awe thing , this is mostly "can you follow simple directions "and secondly this is "let's do everything together so we are on the same page". When you split up everything , people aren't listening , people are faster than others and you waste time going back and explaining things(because as you know people will say "what, what, what did he say ") then you have to stop and start over, this right here is the best way to do this. On the 28:00 when you mention the cream, they do that later.. this is the introduction to combat with the weapon , they do all of this in" the classroom" environment, what you are talking about with the camo and face cream they will do that the next week in woods, so they are in this type of environment for like let's say a week or 2 , then they pack up all thier kit and then are physically moved to the woods to live. what they just learned the past two weeks are put into effect into the woods for another 2-3 weeks. In the states we teach you first in a "class room " then we take you to put it into effect. This applies to every skill you will learn.. Fyi marine boot camp is 12-13 weeks (longest boot camp for all the services). Even after this if you are infantry after "passing out" you go elsewhere for another 6 weeks or so for infantry training before you learn your job. If you aren't infantry you go to a modified infantry for 2-3 weeks before you learn your job. And "passing out " is similar to the royal Marines where you finish with a ruck march or yomp. Every marine is a rifleman first. Oh about your reference to Paris island; because of the amount of people we have compared to the UK, if you are from the eastern region of rhe states then you go to paris island , if you are from the western region then you go to San Diego, you have no choice in the matter. Its the same traning for marines just different environment

@@CombatReadyHQ btw..oh as a point of order… I laugh when I’ve seen the royal army/marines videos when you go on holiday in the middle of training.. lmao.. 😭😂🤣.. we don’t do that here.. if we allowed that people would not come back after holiday. If Xmas or a bank holiday occurs during training, you lose a day of training and you are on light duty, cleaning and getting your kit ready for the next training day.The only time you are allowed to go on holiday is when you are done learning your job. In the middle of leaving your school to your permanent base /assignment you can take holiday before reporting (which is not worth it because at this point you only have maybe 5 days saved) or they have recruiters assistance (which you don’t use your holiday) you will go to your home town for 10 -12 days and help your recruiter(8am-5pm) in your town by going with him to schools and talking to prospective candidates.

I understand that you don't think this level of shock and awe is necessary, BUT this is the Marine Corps. The idea is immediate obedience. This isn't your everyday military branch. This is a cult with a government paycheck. If you can't immediately fall in line the Corps doesn't want you. There is a reason they are world renowned as a group. Every branch has their own special forces that stand above the rest, but the basic Marine is considered above the other branches basic troops in terms of ability and willingness to fight. The reason for that is because of this level of strict adherence and aggression.

A little late, and IDK if anyone else has hit on this but yes, its "EARS" - "OPEN SIR" and "EYES" (or "EYEBALLS") "CLICK SIR". Its just a call and response used to get the attention of recruits when a DI needs to show and/or tell them something. It also builds on the total obediance and discipline required in boot camp. Theres actually an older documentary called Ears Open, Eyeballs Click that follows a USMC Recruit Company through boot camp.

A funny story... I went to Navy bootcamp in San Diego which was seperated from MCRD & the airport by 10' fence's. There was a recruit (not in my company) that decided to go AWOL and jumped the fence but it was the wrong one and landed on MCRD and was caught. They called and his asked his Company Commanders CC's/and the Division heads how they wanted to handle it... Well they said he must've wanted to join the Marines so jeep him for a week or two then let him decide which place he wanted to go to.... LOL

Sorry, watched and commented a long time ago. These videos never get old. Hated DIs at the time but they are in immaculate shape and tailored as you say. Hold themsves to an extreme level of proffesionalism. You appreciate them afterwards. The standard haircut is zero to 3 inches in Marines. In Bootcamp they shave you nearly bald all over. Then you're allowed a high and tight, slightly longer faded in on top, maybe half inch. The jarhead term for marines comes from this, your head looks like the top of a jar. But when you're a boot you get sunburnt beneath the shaved line so you are very much noticeable as a boot! 😁 anyway, jarhead comes from zero blade on the side to very short on top....or as long as you can grow it under your cover without getting in trouble 😁 funny times!

I don't know what branch of the British Army you were in mate but when you think that's too extreme......US army navy Coast guard, going to Central processing there were only 5 marines, all in the back seat of the bus at 4am. The other kids were saying why are you going marines, it's too hard. In hindsight...we were stupid effers with a mind for punishment. But initially Marines was the toughest way to go so the only choice for me between that and the Legion. Afterwards you could choose seal's, army rangers, marine recon etc. Just like UK, you could choose SBS, SAS etc but on that bus full of kids, a lot of them were not manning up and choosing marines 😁

Your missing the point about why the DI's are literally bouncing around the place. They keep this intensity throughout boot camp. It can taper some, if earned. But will geg dialed back to day 1 for any infraction. The reasoning is everything should be done with speed, intensity, and a sense of purpose. Always. It also injects a pressure that teaches you how to operate in difficult situations. The Marines are incredible in creating some of the best warriors and leaders on the planet. Its hard to explain how much boot camp changes people.

90 PI platoon 1072 it does a aging Marine's heart (if that exists) good to see the woke bs has not infiltrated my beloved Marine Corps. Other services can be weak, we cannot ever be. Us old salts are still out here and if needed. The intensity is forever within. Our bodies age & break our minds do not.

And just so everyone knows they aren't there to yell at their recruits or scare em to death their there to teach them and change them from civilians to soldiers heck the recruits may be anxious and all every day but all that yelling and torture they go through will be worth it in the end. Only sad part about them going to war is that itll bring out something terrible, and they might not even be recognized when they return home.

in addition the platon, get a senior drill instructor who has no limits when it comes to smoking recruits, much like raheel siddiqui, who has bad luck to be a muslim and that his drill instructor is a muslim hater and was already on the USMC's blacklist for psychologically slaughtering of recruits. but due a bureaucratic error, he was allowed to work as drill instructor again.

To be frank, I wish I had followed through with my original plan to join the military (either airforce or navy--my grandfather and uncle were both navy men. Gpa enlisted durring wwii, my uncle an officer), but I was a f--- up little bitch when I was younger. I, and pretty much any man, would have benefitted from some discipline and giving of myself to a greater cause. I would support a law that requires every man to at least go through boot camp. I have the utmost respect for our service members and the service members of our allies...even those of our 'enemy' deserve at least respect for their sacrifice for their countries despite and inspite of their leadership

Also remember any kid who's been on a High School Football Team which is many is quite used to being yelled at this way quite a lot. You can she some of them aren't fazed much at all and it's usually from having been in High School sports. I was a cheerleader and had my coaches up on us pretty intensely just as cheerleaders.

Doubt any HS football team, let alone a female cheerleading team is anywhere as intense as boot camp in terms of being yelled at.

One call on the bayonet training, you can tell these are still super new recruits because they don't have their boots bloused. First phase recruits don't blouse their boots. Around week 3/4 you hit second phase and you get to blouse you boots. It was a big deal as a recruit, a sort or rite of passage. You'd see guys who were only 3-4 weeks behind with unbloused boots and were like damn, sucks to be them.

Us Air Force retiree here, a few observations concerning the DI's; A) Marine DI's yell wrong, ie incorrectly. They scream inefficiently and ruin their voices. I taught the Security Forces Base Defense course (basically infantry, Army MOS 11B or Marine MOS 0311). So there was a bit of yelling. But, our Basic Military Training Instructors (TI's) bellow, using "parade ground" voices, their style is ingrained in us since basic. I can still quiet a noisy bar in one second, bellows are louder, are understandable, and are immediately listened to, unlike voices straining to be heard. B) Air Force TI's sew their shirt pockets down. Lackland AFB, Joint Base San Antonio, TX is the only USAF basic training base, as well as home to a number of technical training schools. Therefore, their are a number of dry cleaners just off base that offer tailoring services including, body matching tailoring, sewing on of stripes, pocket sewing, etc. Most guarantee that you'll pass inspection. Since Lackland is THE premier USAF training base, scrutiny of NCO's and Officers is significantly more intense. BUT, it's also possible the Marines have a prohibition against it, as it does render the USELESS front pockets (you're never allowed to use them as pockets) unserviceable. C) The Senior Drill Instructor's intro speech. Idk when they standardized it, but that is word-for-word the exact same speech given to every class at both MCRD Parris Island and MCRD San Diego. I applaud that. That means Marines on both coasts know exactly what is expected of them and what to expect, BUT, they won't realize that until later.
