We got a Great Deal on a Generator from Craigslist for $75. We try to Tune it up and make it work properly. We see if it can actually run at the rated 5000 running watts. Powermate MAXA 5000 10 HP Tecumseh Motor / 86mstar

I buy broken/junk generators on Craigs List. I never pay more than $100. I sell them for about $400 for pull start or $650 for electric start. I think I have turned over about 50 generators. I did up my price on this last generator. I paid $225 for a "dead" Generac Guardian 16 kilowatt unit WITH transfer panel. (Unit sells for around $6700. BUT... It cost another $7000 to have it installed. I decided to keep this one. I have the transfer switch wired in as a sub-panel. (It was made that way, no primary circuit breaker/disconnect.) Did thew final test (no load) and it works perfect! BTW, in case you are wondering, the reason the old lady wanted to get rid of it: Battery exploded. (Common problem with older Generac standby generators.) I have a lot of videos on my channel, if you want to see it.

I was given a briggs exl8000, I replaced new tank, battery, plug, carb and oil. Good to go runs great. 13,500 starting watts 8000 running watts. I just saw one on Craigslist for 50 bucks like yours that is why I looked up this video.

I just picked up the same one someone dropped it off for scrap metal, I paid $10, Snowstorm here in the last 12 hours so it may be a bit before I get to it and the generator end might be bad, but you never know. thank's for the video, it should provide me with a good start.

Good simple generators. I added electric start and propane to mine. You can pull that fitting out of the rubber grommet and remove the grommet on the bottom of the fuel tank and clean that tank out much better. Put a little oil on them when re assembling.

Glad to hear you had good luck too! We have been super happy with the performance of this generator so far. I love saving money, and getting a good deal like that saves hundreds over buying retail. Thanks for the Comment!

I set mine at 61hz. The instant you put a load on it it drops off to 59-60hz.

You need new motor mounts, I noticed it vibrates excessively. Other than that, great find!

My generator is leaking the oil from under the motor why.
@86mstar6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jose, alot of times the oil drips down the motor to the bottom before falling off...so it could be a leak from anywhere. It would also depend on how much it is leaking, to determine where to start looking. Good luck with your repair.

if its this same generator its probably the oil sensor in bottom

I just got the newer model of this where it actually has a board all the outlets are installed on.. its the coleman maxma 5000..it says it puts out 5000 continuous watts and 6250 start up watts. I was going to buy it for $50 and I get it running and the guy was delivering it. well 20 minutes later he messaged and said he knew it would run since he always took care of it and ran only ethanol free fuel. He got it started with 2 year old fuel ..it ran ok but could be better so today i got 5 gallons of fresh ethanol free gas and new fuel filter, air filter, spark plug, muffler, carb cleaner and wheels for it... had to get wheels its really heavy lol..oh yeah cuz he took the time to fix b4 delivering..he wanted $100..I gave it to him gladly..I hate having to fix other peoples junk..I got a great generator for $100
