When I was a freshman in high school they moved in right down the street from me. They lived in a Spanish style house with a clay tile roof. It was in a super quiet neighborhood on a hilly street just north of Forest Lawn Glendale(the entrance to the cemetery is where they put the blindfold on the guy in this video). I was a fan and owned 'A Date with Elvis' and 'Bad Music for Bad People' on vinyl but could never get up the nerve to talk to them. Ivy was pretty reclusive but Lux was a sociable guy. My dad would chitchat with him. He introduced himself as Rick. Within a year I ran off to follow the Grateful Dead and my parents sold the house. I'll always regret never talking to Lux. R.I.P.

I recognized Forest Lawn in Glendale! My grandmother rests there and it’s where I’d like to go when my time comes. How neat that they lived so close to you. I’ve always wondered about their private lives together. They were legendary.

1990, Portland, Oregon. Pine Street Theater. Lux came out in a leather (pleather?) jacket, black bikini underwear and high heels. About 30 minutes into their set, a couple of girls in front got a little handsy and Lux didn't stop them...until they pulled down his panties. He stepped back and said, "that's not cool" as he pulled up his panties. Ivy sneered and shook her head and kept playing. All I can say is Ivy is one lucky woman!

The Cramps were self aware and badass. I can't believe I waited so long to get into them

The Cramps were a great band! Preserving the spirit of rock and roll. The way it was originally intended from the 1950s. Hearing them speak I immediately warmed to them. They came across as really interesting people. Playing a concert for people with mental health problems seems a very inclusive thing to do.

Thank u 4 the upload. Lux And Ivy handled this clearly brain damaged interviewer with such grace and gentility. I hope she is currently living her best life and accepting that she will never comprehend rock and roll.

She certainly didn't prepare well and is not _quite_ articulate enough to interview a band of this calibre. She was the wrong choice.

Old Town Pasadena used to have a lot of these little gift shops before they renovated it way back when and those shops would set up for the Halloween and Christmas. I was in one of those stores (late 80's) around Halloween and Lux and Ivy were in one of the aisles checking out the little novelties. Didn't bother them but was pretty cool seeing them out and about.

Lux to confused interviewer: 'Nah.... I wouldn't say. We mean it, but there's humour in our music...' If you missed that part about The Cramps' music and show, you shouldn't really interview.

What can you say about this act beyond original 100% ! I've seen the Original (late 70's) band ! with Brian Gregory ! this was the absolute best they ever were ! PSYCO SURF/ROCK'A'BILLY Lux had the Eddy Cochran [hick-up] going ! the poison girl held it down with the bass she's an amazing guitar player! I would pay anything to see footage of the night Link Wray was a Cramp for a night !

The woman interviewing them had no idea how sex-positive feminist this band was. This band was Ivy’s band from the beginning. There was no one like them back then. Lux in heels was so femme, they didn’t know how to parse it back then. Punk as hell, and ahead of their time. Gender bent to hell and back, maybe the best underground band from the 80s.
@elizabthharris6741 Жыл бұрын
Exactly my thinking...rock and roll can't be rock and roll clean! The best albums of most bands were their sick days. Ya can't be a goody goody, ya had to have LIVED! And if you haven't, how are ya gonna know what life is for?!
