Love watching you guys shows. I want to see a video, where you run a camshaft strait up no degree. And then use same cam but use degree wheel. And see if there is any mojor power differences.

I had a 70 Dodge Charger and it came with a 383 Magnum, it had been run at the Drag Strip, but someone took the big heads off of it and put stock ones on. The motor didn't want to Idle in gear and it was an automatic. I rebuilt the engine and left the cam in it, but I Advanced the cam 6 Degrees and so not only did I get Great Low end Torque, but she still had a lot of top end in her up to 6500 easily. 3:55-1 Rear Posi in an 8 3/4 inch Mopar Differential. I put in a 1800 stall converter and did some tricks to the Automatic 727. L-60 fit under the Stock body, I had 2000Lb over load helper spring and got the Power to the ground on the street.

454ci, 10.5:1 cr oval port AFR heads 265cc or 290cc they don't say Holley 950cfm? Edelbrock RPM manifold vs. Victor (change over point was @ 4,700rpms, RPM worth 30lb-ft while the Victor was worth +11hp with the middle camshaft) Hyd Roller cams @ 0.050" lift: Cam #1 -222/230 , (@5:35s "picked up 30hp gain with the medium cam with RPM manifold", so the small made 568hp/587lb-ft) Cam#2 - 234/242, 598hp/ 580lb-ft with RPM manifold, 609.4hp/575lb-ft+/- with the victor Cam#3 - 248/256, made 629.6hp and around the same lb-ft ans the middle cam 575lb-ft(+/-) 6,700rpm max pull/ Drop in TQ at 3,000rpms Cam#1 to cam#2 w/ RPM manifold - lost 30 lb-ft, gained 24hp+/- at the top end cam #2 rpm vs. victor manifolds- lost 20lb-ft but gained about 10hp cam#2 vs. cam #3 with victor - 25lb-ft drop in TQ but gained 20hp.....(lost about 81lb-ft vs. the small cam/RPM combo.) I was surprised the 14 degree LARGER cam only picked up Vaccum Cam#1 - 14.3 " cam#2 - 11.5" cam#3 - 6.5

JerseyMikeP.. Cam 2 with some advance dialed in could give cam 1 a run for the money off the bottom. Cam 3 must be looking for bigger heads on the top end, definitely not for street use ether way!

IN the 70's we would say a big cam wants dual 650's on a tunnel ram and big square ports. Digs only with that. That small roller cam gives you all you need on the street in a chevelle with a muncie and 3:73's in the 12. If you want a rough idle lean out the idle circuit :) - Sandy

Hey Sandy.... When is the last time you heard "3/4 cam"? Lol... I allways tuned the engines I built ( SB Fords) for my customers cars. With a balance between the timing and vacuum, especially if there was a brake booster. Basically took the "rumpity rump" out of the idle. The 347's would end up around 900-950 rpm at idle. Had a intense idle, snappy throttle but the "rump" was desired. Then I would suggest a looser converter and new trans. The increace in $$$ scared them off a bit. But after blowing a 45 year old C4 in a week or so and hearing "it's a dog off the line" sold the upgrades for me. Explaning why the new torque converter will feel odd on the street and telling them the new trans isn't slipping. Was kinda fun. I just told them to stand on the brake, load the converter and hang on. Heh..... Allways came back telling me "holee sheeet" I get it now! Was even more fun!

The years go by...just found this and not only have airgap dual plane, but the first (little) Crane roller tested still in box waiting to go in my crate 502 in 70 Chevelle. I was told the lift (587/610) is too much for my stock lifters, but am going to hand turn and measure to see. Want to deck the heads to get 10.5 to 1 comp. as here. Also have the MSD Atomic, and want to get Torquestorm charger, but Atomic has HP limit this might exceed.

What about cam thrust button clearance on retrofit hydraulic roller cams? The tightest clearance I've been told is .003" and the loosests I've been told is .012". Everyone says to file the nylon buttons until you get the desired clearance, but what if I'm running a cast timing cover and a double roller timing set with thrust bearing? The nylon is by far the softest part of the whole thing. Won't it just self clearance to a minimum spec when I start the engine the first time?

Hi, I'm building an LQ4 6.0 with a 408c.i. stroker assembly. The engine is for an old 4wd Army Truck that I use for pulling Tree stumps and Highway Car trailer Hauling and of course racing stoplight to stoplight with my factory .454 gears. Luckly I have Hydroboost. Would you even recommend a cam other than stock? I would like to upgrade to a mild cam without much sacrificing low end torque. I also haven't bought any Heads yet. I have Iron heads so I was eyeballing just #317 Alum heads for my application.

summit has dedicated truck cams, since you have a good amount of ci you can get away with a bigger cam than a 6.0. Dont go above 235 for duration @0.5

i guess it doesnt matter if you ding cam bearings in a motor thats only gonna see flogging on the dyno and never any street miles, but it would be nice if he set a good example and took it easy on em. not just slamming the cam into them

chevelle man well they’re just taking the difference from small cams to bigger ones. Yes in term you would want to maximize performance with bigger intake runners. Higher cfm carb etc.

@@brendanmccarthy492 Really? I can build you an engine with a dual plane that will crush a lot of the guys running single planes on the street. It's all about the combination. 860 hp with a2400 rpm peak spread. It will mash a lot of 950-1000 hp high revvers.

@anonymous Well the assholes in China did not have to pay anybody to R&D the cams, now did they. Guys that purchases all the China knockoffs are the guys that kill our sport. The guys that did all the work, spent hours and years developing lobes and cam profiles, they did not do it for free and they put a lot of effort into it. That's what you get with a Crane, Comp, Howards or Lunati cam. All I can hope for when I see someone run a Chinese knockoff roller lifter or roller rocker, is that the bearing fails and the needles block ever damn oil passage in the engine.
