To The Top Crane | In this video we use our Tadano 180g-5 to remove a large tree stump from a creek bed. The stump was a contributing factor to a major flood in the area. The stump was blocking the flow of water and catching other debris, creating a log jam. The crane was initially configured with 53,000 pounds of counterweight. However, we quickly learned that we needed more. So, we ended up using 79,000 pounds of counterweight. The stump weighed 46,000 pounds.

well new comer here and from this video I'm going to subscribe. I have always been fascinated by cranes and the weight they can lift and the size of the crane itself. That looks like that was sketchy from start to finfish I like the end when you finally had enough and said enough or we gonna have a problem. from what I hear the crane operator has the final say in any thing especially when it comes to safety concerns.

That swing over the cab was risky. Placement of crane next to creek like that, there's like no reinforcement of the ground next to creek bed, that was a job only experienced operators would perform but be reluctant to do. This is a really good clip! I never thought cranes would be (ab)used like that. It was cool to see how early you left the yard in the morning and finished the job late in the afternoon by judging the shadow of your huge sundial (crane's boom)... a single lift can take all day, and that's being speedy.

I have heard about using rock drills to get holes big enough to stuff some explosives in and blowing trees loose from the jam. That is a big wet piece of wood you had to wrangle. You don't have to worry about the cameras until you see someone hold their hand over their mouth first. Next nobody will be watching the stump, but staring at you. When you get pulled up where 3 outriggers are off the ground, don't fart, you could blow yourself over.

Man, cranes and tree's just dont mix. I have seen so many guys flip cranes or almost flip a crane from taking down a tree. You can never ever really know exactly how much a section will weigh and the crane is almost always over extended. Now this should not happen with a professional , licensed , experienced operator but it still happens.

That stump had some suction in the mud. I can see why the rotator had issues with it. When I was growing up, we had a cottonwood in our back yard. The stump was easily six to eight feet across. When the tree started dropping some of its limbs, we had the rest of them cut off. We left the stump since we were unable to find a tree company willing to remove the stump due to its size and location. The stump was a good fifteen feet or higher.
