To The Top Crane | Building A Concrete Bridge | Tandem Crane Lift
In this video, we use a Tadano 180g-5 and a Liebherr LTM 1160 to tandem pick concrete bridge girders/beams. The bridge was constructed with nine girders/beams in three spans, ranging in weight from 46,000 pounds to 86,000 pounds. The girders/beams are constructed from pretensioned, precast concrete.

At 26:14, "That wind out of the North is cold." I live in the NORTH, and I work on a stand-up rig, I am SO jealous of your heated and air conditioned cab. I'm freezing my butt off four months out of the year. I used to really like winter, but at 60, I can't remember why. You must have had a good year, and to busy to post videos. Let's hope it continues! I'm looking forward to more. Take Care!

IIRC from my tech-writing days, all girders are beams, but not all beams are girders. I was never entirely clear on the distinction and I'm still not after googling it, as I've found at least three different explanations. I'm pretty sure, however, that either word would be correct here. As always, enjoyed the video. A very smooth job.

@@ToTheTopCrane I was working at a soybean processing plant during an upgrade on the rail dump. During an install of precast funnels under the track the crane operator was swinging in a spout over people waiting in the pit to receive it while talking on his cellphone. Pointed this out to a company bigwig and he just turned away. The company is one of the big ag company's and was always about safety until the plant went down.

We engineers get it right occasionally with diligent work and communication with the construction crews. I was never involved in bridgework but I did steel detailing in college and I've been involved with designing and installing large machine tools that need a base that was 2 stories deep. It's very satisfying when everything drops together perfectly with no shims or rework.

Hi Jimmy, Great video! Interesting to see that drone flying around capturing the moment too. Just wondering if this was a bridge replacement due to the floods? This bridge is replacing a very old, 8 ton capacity, iron bridge. Nothing flood related. The bottom ground around the rivers is definitely fertile and productive. But, risky as well. Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you and yours as well! Many thanks for watching! 🏗

@@ToTheTopCrane The flats around a river risky? Naturally, they are also known as the flood plains. As much as the people living in those areas hate the floods, those same floods are why the soil is so fertile. The Ashwan Dam in Egypt showed how the natural flooding cycle is what made Egypt a food exporter in the times of the Pharaohs. The chemical fertilizers used after the floods were controlled hurt the soil.

Is there a clutch mechanism on the Tedano that allows it to weather vane so that the other crane can pull you around like it was or is he pulling against the hydraulics of your crane too? @@williamrosenow6176 I think we know each other. I was one of the foreman (now retired) with Hi-Boom Erecting. You're right about the under-craned part; Lunda was by far the worst offender, often supplying a pair of clanky old 5299s to do a job that should have been equipped with two of their Terexs or even something bigger. We spent countless hours mucking around, filling, cribbing, etc., getting those old junkers close enough to do the job. Tripping over a dollar to save a dime, it looked like to me. Yet they were fanatic about hard hats, tie-off, etc.
@williamrosenow6176

@@ckuehncnwhsyt I saw your name and profession and figured it was you. Last company I worked for was new to the union in 2013 when I started but Lunda was the safest company I worked for. Seems weird but formans call the shots. I should have went to a company like the guy in this video. Before the moratorium on 82W girders me and the other operator had to sign papers saying we knew saftey factors could not be maintained and we took responsibility. We did it like idiots but it worked out. 200,000 girders with 2 110 terex's. I have never heard tracks pop and creak that bad on pick and carry.
@ckuehncnwhsyt
@ckuehncnwhsyt Жыл бұрын
@@williamrosenow6176 Bill, I disagree about Lunda being the safest. Kramer and ZT had them beat all to hell in every aspect of safety. Lunda talked a good safety game, and I'll admit they were hell on hardhats, tie-off, hi-viz, life jackets, etc. - stuff that was highly visible to the casual bystander or even a mildly astute observer But they were abysmal when it came to adequately and safely equipping jobs. Unbelievable, some of the junk equipment, including and especially cranes, with which we had to make do. And everything was always in a huge hurry - no time for any difficulties that might arise - which regularly resulted in some unsafe practices.
