Thank God Brian Simmons found his gift and is sharing it with the world. I love his arrangements. Nothing short of amazing. I'm not gonna say who won or who lost but I will say that I appreciate that Southern throws in songs to show all the people who like quiet that they can be quiet and play beautiful soft music. It sounds great when they do, but this isn't a symphonic concert so those of who want them to play every song like that is being unrealistic. I just want people to stop lying saying that SU doesn't know how to play with different dynamics. They gave you a taste now back to the CRANKING!!!!. That's what we do. And when you called the JUKEBOX, you betta be loud. Just like if your name is the BOOM, you betta come with that BOOM! IJS Love my dolls. Sometimes I wish they'd get a little more crunk but hey it is what it is.

When Southern played the Sister Act 2 song....I threw a shoe at my computer....JSU was good too though but gotta give SU the win..that's a bad ass band bro...and I don't attend either school AND I marched for an HBCU.

I feel that southern was winning during the first couple of songs, but as the battle went on, JSU stepped up and the battle became a matter of personal preference rather than "which band did a better job at what". Both bands sounded great. With that said, I preferred SU's performance.That doesn't mean JSU was any worse, I just preferred SU's overall sound.

Both had their pros and cons, you can tell this was a SU crowd but JSU held it down too, SU gets the slight edge because their song selection is unmatched

I marched in the Jukebox from 87-91 (Baskin, Johnson were the primary arrangers of music). We were no where as big in terms of numbers as today's band but were just as loud. SU has ALWAYS had ear shattering sound. I mean HD/Stereo wattage hence "Human Jukebox", kicking on 8. Haymer and his staff has done a hellava job though. Some of those arrangements are flat out ridiculous. Good battle by both bands.

All I have to say is JSU is 1 of the best bands when it comes to battling SU. But if they wanna ever beat SU they need a new band Director. Im not saying hes a bad guy, but these new band directors that SU got bringing it.. You can say the band hot. But the band directors arrangements and not blasting every song brings balance to their music. Like it or not, not taking anything away from the great Doc. Or Mr. Knighten... but they left the band in the right hands. Because these dudes with these new ears bring that fiya....

Being born in Bastrop Louisiana and having a mother who attended Grambling St one would think I should be a GSU fan. But I've always loved southern!! Their quality of music is second to none!! One matchup I always like seeing is Tennessee State vs Southern University. They never disappoint. My favorites SU, TSU, NC A&T, GSU and FAMU when they ain't fucking up and killing people!

Why are there mics anyway? SU sounds cleaner, JSU had some tempo issues. No HBCU can talk about another playing old songs they all do it on a daily but you got to keep some of the old and give it a new school flavor. If you are going to scream make sure you hit your note and cut off on one with everyone else, there are no solos. Two of the top HBCU bands going head to head. The MEAC schools don't understand what goes on in the SWAC. MEAC be half sleep. JSU can't say they were tired from the night before I mean it was just Mississippi Valley, not like you had to play fight song a lot or anything. Last year (2015) SU didn't battle JSU before the game. In 2014 the Jaguar Nation traveled to Jackson and took over the gym during BOTB and then killed them during the game. It is going to be nice to see them go head to head during the game. Overall good battle
