The kid got sulphuric acid on her hands and then wiped her eyes. The hospital did eye surgery because the government subsidizes those procedures and the crooked doctors took advantage of the situation. The complexities of the operation caused them to remove the surrounding tissue. Now, we'll never know if she'll inherit the unibrow.

Thank you for such informative tests. I did notice that the original battery supplies a higher cranking current and a shorter time in startup the car when compared with the ultra capacitor setup. The first peak of the cranking current should correspond to the current when the engine is stationary and sub-sequenced peaks would correspond to the compression stroke of the engine. An 4-cyclinder engine would have one compression stroke in one revolution. It seems the engine starts after 3 revolutions with the original battery and 4 revolutions with the ultra capacitor setup. I did use an commercial 300A batteryless (ultra cap) jump starter to start an 1.8L gas car and obtain similar results.

Wiring super-capacitors in series without balancing or management is generally a bad idea. Because of the difference in series resistance and capacitance variations, not all caps will charge to the same voltage. This can mean that if you charge your bank of 6 caps to 12V, not every cap will have 2V over it. Some will have 2.2, some 1.8 etc. You can imagine this forms a problem when you are pushing it up to the theoretical maximum (6x2.7V) or with bad caps. When designing a capacitor bank for a hydrogen vehicle dc dc boost converter (20x2.7V in series, so 54V in theory but in practice limited to 49.5V) I have seen variations of up to 0.8V(!) between caps.

How do you balance your capacitors?
@tHaH4x0r
@tHaH4x0r 8 жыл бұрын
There are two main methods of doing it, active and passive balancing. In passive balancing you just waste excess power by having a mosfet in parallel to each capacitor that dissipates power when the voltage exceeds a certain threshold (can also be a relative voltage to other capacitors). Active balancing works by having a DC-DC boost converter in parallel with each capacitor. When a capacitor exceeds the threshold, the converter is turned on which boosts the voltage up to the capacitor bank voltage and dumps it back into the capacitor bank. There are some more methods and variations on the above methods but these two are the most common ones. It depends on the application which is the most efficient/cost effective. Generally the first is the cheapest to implement in the short run, there are even dedicated chips for this.
@superdau
@superdau 8 жыл бұрын
+ultort If your caps are all the same (and preferably even from the same production batch), you can get away with putting a high value resistor in parallel with each cap. Of course this will slowly drain the caps as well, but depending on your application that might not be a problem. You could also put diodes in parallel, for example several silicon diodes (in series). Just select the forward voltage of the diodes so that they will start conducting when the voltage on the cap would exceed its limit.

How fast can they deliver current? I am considering to use em as propulsion (if it is a correct word) for homemade railgun, just as a project to kill a time and maybye myself by an accident...
@ElectroBOOM
@ElectroBOOM 8 жыл бұрын
I'm trying to do the same too! current delivery is not an issue, they can deliver 400A instantly. But you also need high voltage.
@novotd443
@novotd443 8 жыл бұрын
I might disagree with you on this part. My guess is that voltage around 5-7 volts will be enought, in railgun you need current, while in coilgun you need voltage. That is my guess thou. I've asked you about current delivery because when u shorted it with that thin little wire it looked like it was heating up propably same speed as if it'll while connected to a car battery. My guess was that that ammount of current will burst that thin cable like fuse, in an instant, if u understand me. Only thing you need to really care of is cooling and some sort of minimal friction while launching projectile and also sort of 'prelaunch' thing sou your projectile connects with rails at decent speed that it'll prevent weld effect and spread heat more evenly thru rails.
@ElectroBOOM
@ElectroBOOM 8 жыл бұрын
The reason I'm saying you need higher voltage is that at low voltage, your projectile will hit the rails and likely get fused to the rails shorting them, and doesn't move anymore. If you raise the voltage, it will get so hot that will melt the sides of projectile and as it moves it maintains an arc that still allows the current through. Also the high voltage means higher currnet
@novotd443
@novotd443 8 жыл бұрын
Well, yes, but in order to achieve hight voltage you need to stack up multiple caps in series which is [1/C=1/C1+1/C2+...+1/Cn] basicly for same ammount of caps less capacity, but while in paralel it goes [C=C1+C2+...+Cn] which give you more current. Also, you really don't want to melt projectile unless it is made of Tungsten, I'd suggest to use some sort of high velocity and force launching device, like potato gun and both, rales and sides of projectile cover with extreme fine molybdenium dust which will lower friction. That is just a suggestion thou, but I think that more voltage won't be that usefull because you will have to change rails every so often.
