When I think of the original PlayStation, Crash Bandicoot immediately comes to mind; it was so strange to learn in the following gen that he was not a Sony IP nor their official mascot. I've many a fond memory of this first game so it's great to see you dive into it. 0:42 - That is strange. Given how much Sony tied the marketing of the original PlayStation with Crash Bandicoot, I wonder why they never tried to buy the rights off of Universal. Perhaps they wanted to make a clear distinction between PS1 and PS2. 1:56 - A wonderful introduction of the game and the way the title screen feels like the very opening segment of that first level is a nice touch. 2:52 - Hilarious attempt to avoid damage instead resulting in a whole lost life. I've heard the crate story and explanation before, but it's interesting to think how crates became such a core part of Crash game's indentity. 4:32 - You can certainly see the Donkey Kong Country influence at play with the island map here. 5:39 - I love how the High Road got lumped in with the boss battles. It's nefarious difficulty is of that level to be classified beyond a level. 8:26 - Indeed; it's funny actually seeing Naughty Dog's output before Crash Bandicoot. You wouldn't have thought they were capable of such high heights but they certainly proved it with Crash.

Where did they go wrong

Fun game, kinda annoying, but still decent after all this time, i always go in reverse order when playing the ps1 games, the difficulty felt easier as time went on (or rather more fair and better built together) can definitely see how this game character came to be Sony mascot during this time, he was funny and regonizable, and of course was quite the icon....and still is sometimes
