In any crowd at any game, there’s got to be at least 5 or 6 11-year-old boys. One floating away in a balloon wouldn’t deplete the supply that much. So play on!

For those wondering, the kid survived being dumped in the river. The river was slushy so it allowed him to swim/crawl about 25 yards to safety where a photographer happened to be on the scene and got him back to Metropolitan Stadium to get checked out (and his clothes dried). He went on to become a prominent Minneapolis lawyer.

I’ll admit to a polite curiosity about whether the boy fvcking died lol especially since the only response from the announcer and players was “man these boys better bring their A game if they’re going to follow THAT up”

I love the footage from "Warner Wolf's Plays of the Decade." Those highlights - particularly the Archie Manning underhand pass - take me back to my childhood and watching his "Plays of the Week," on Friday mornings before school - I think it was the "CBS Morning Show." (I see an earlier commenter also noticed the "horse collar" tackle at the end).

Which brings to mind that if you watch the original NBC telecast of The Immaculate Reception, not only does Curt Gowdy say that Franco Harris is “over” as he crosses the goal line, but he also says that the ball is “picked off” as Franco catches it off the deflection, just before it hits the ground. To modern ears, that definitely sounds like an INTERception, not a REception.

@andrewohe1748
@andrewohe1748 Жыл бұрын
The boy’s parents owned a hot air balloon and we’re promoting an upcoming event at half time of a Vikes game. They had a rope tethered to the hot air balloon and the plan was to walk it the length of the field. It was initially supposed to be the boy’s mom in the balloon, but when it wasn’t getting lift she had her son switch places with her. It lifted off with him in the basket, but at some point the balloon became untethered from the rope holding it to the ground. The boy barely missed colliding with stadium lights and then his path took him right into air space used for planes landing and taking off at MSP. Metropolitan Stadium which is now Mall of America is right next to the airport. Luckily, the FAA was quick and suspended or diverted air traffic in the area while he flew through. He was able to release enough hot air to make a landing, but landed in a river. The balloon took off again without anyone in it. After he landed he got out and swam to dry land about 25 yards away, surviving the incident. He was taken back to the stadium where he would be checked by the Vikings medical staff. His parents were chasing the hot air balloon and didn’t see it landed and he had gotten off. They found it again later when it landed by itself without their kid inside. Over radio they were told their son had survived and was back at the stadium. They would soon after be reunited.

1:47 Here you can seee that the TV yellow line was a whole yard off. You see the down marker on the 3 while the yellow line is on the 2. So either the broadcasters fucked up overlaying the down line, the down marker guy fucked up the position, or the officials fucked up the line of scrimmage. From an article I found about this game it sounds like the chain gang fucked up. Which is odd because the chain is exactly ten yards and is supposed to be taut so that you *can't* fuck that up.
