Crazy Dyson v8 Fault and Repair
This Dyson cleaner was playing up and not in the usual pipe or filter clogged way. Luckily enough I investigated it as it really is a dodgy problem with it - must have been a Friday afternoon build in the factory?

You, my friend, are an absolute life saver! I bought my Dyson V8 at Target🎯 a year ago and it acted weird right out of the gate. I paid over $400 for it but chose not to return the thing because it worked great...when it worked. I was getting more annoyed with it as time went on. Then, I came across your video, after searching MANY videos. I tore it apart yesterday and found that the power wire on the right had a cross-threaded screw. I ran a die over the screw and a tap into the attached nut to fix it. The other problem was the star slot in the screw was only half formed so I had to use needle nose vise grips to put it back in. It works great now. You would think that whoever put it together would have noticed that it wasn't in correctly. They should be ashamed of themselves for sending this product out for sale. Thanks for the tutorial👍🏻!

You just saved me a couple hundred bucks. I was vacuuming and didn’t realize my daughter spilled her water under the table until I seen it in the collection. The vacuum immediately stopped working and all of my husband’s research said it was trash. I refused to accept that, followed your instructions to reach the motor and wet sponge cover(V7 Pet version), dried it out slowly with a hair dryer on low, and now it’s back! Thanks so much!!

Look at the absolutely miniscule fan on this vacuum! Just took mine apart - it measures 20mm in diameter - 3/4"! Its about as big around as my thumb. Not sure weather to commend Dyson's genius in getting any kind of vac to work at all with that tiny a fan, or wonder if they really know what they're doing. Mine works ok on high (when it's very loud and only runs about 3-4 minutes) but honestly on normal it's just not a lot of suction.

My V8 was pulsating and not holding a charge. Thought it the battery. On replacing it, flame and smoke shot out of the back of the motor. That was enough for me. Costco has a return policy and this is going back. I’m thinking a similar problem as you describe but I think the circuit board is toast. Glad the house is still standing!

This was very satisfying to watch. I always wondered how to open up the rear end as I have one. Mine also developed a crack on the handle and replaced by Dyson. Despite this hiccup, I still love the Dyson. I also agree with other comments that the batteries need to be of easy changing like power tools.

Hi thanks for this - I had an issue on my V7 where when I set the machine to max power it would die after 5 seconds of use. After taking it apart I saw that the black wire had been damaged (presumably during the manufacturing process). Not something that I can fix myself, but I phoned Dyson support who were really good and they organised a replacement.

My failure involved the accessories getting power (voltage) but not actually spinning. No current was passed from the PCB to them. The wires were fine, these wires are the red and white ones in the video. So it is some kind of programmed chip death I guess.. As a hacked up fix, I just pulled the white and red wires out (they are held in by clips on the back of the pcb which you can unhook with a screwdriver) and I put those red and white wires directly onto the big bulky motor leads by shuffing them under the screws (between the wire terminal and the screw, NOT BETWEEN THE TERMINAL AND THE SOLDERED NUT- this will cause FIRE because the big leads need to be able to pass 40 amps to the board by making full contact). The accessories now spin again- but you may want to add a fuse onto one of the leads though because if an accessory shorts out or is blocked in some way it's gonna get the full power of the battery and also burn something up. Good stuff. Gotta love making these expensive toys more dangerous.

Hello, great videos. I am looking for some explanation of my Dyson V8 fluffy slim + (SV10K). this variant does not come with the carpet 50w direct drive/motorhead, only the hard floor fluffy ones (15W) , it also comes with the small motorised head 20W. Then i realize I need to also deep clean my carpets and want to get the 50w direct drive head that usually comes with absolute variant. When i manage to try the 50w head on my V8, it spins but as soon as put on carpet and senses load on the head motor, it stops spinning. I did some amp reading and seems like my v8 only allow certain amp draw from the attachment but not the 50w head because its higher, way higher than the motorized head that it came with in the box. Do u know if there is any way we can change the amp draw limit to support the 50w head attachment.

Use a 9V battery on the motorhead to test for any movement. Best to take out the dc motor to test in case it’s just hair jamming it up. If there’s no jam and it moves, you have no power from the main unit. Follow for continuity from the Motörhead’s dc motor up to the connection to the main unit. If all is well, your issue is a chip burnt out that feeds the power tools. Can bypass by connecting the red and white wire to mains. Add a an inline fuse if you do this in case of motorhead failure and high current is drawn.

as I user, I see two flaws in the design of Dyson vacuums: 1) replacing battery needs tools. this is the most fetal one, as many home appliances and tools are getting wireless models, battery replacement and compatibility among themselves is a very important product design strategy. It's unfortunate that Dyson designer did not see this coming as this products was started a bit too early for this. They could have learned this quickly and make new models with one-click replaceable batteries, and offer at least two batteries per device; 2) the location of the motor is in the path of the air flow, which is some time fetal. As we often wash the filters, the mix of water and dust will form mud in the air path and on the motor wheels, and jam and lock the motor, as it did to my motor, if one washes the filter, then blows the motor a bit, and then leaves it on stand for a few days. However, among all the vacuums on the market, Dyson still has the most powerful motor which many loves. I hope Dyson engineers can watch this video and read my message here, and go back to their design board to make a better vacuum.

If you are wondering how your Dyson got cracked, take a look at how you slap it around in this video. The plastic Dyson used is absolute garbage. I cracked a couple parts by giving the old bump push together like you did. Be careful, it doesn't take much shock to crack that cheap brittle plastic. Even pushing in the battery with a little bump (like with power tool batteries) will shatter the cheap plastic battery receptacle inside the handle.
