#7 is first responsible for the extra man coming on the blitz..... If no blitz then he can go out as a receiver. That was a blown assignment. Fair play to FSU that blitz was well disguised and well timed.

The lost to Duke isn’t necessarily why Clemson isn’t ranked. They fell from 9th to 25th after that loss. However, in their next game against a FCS team they had a miserable performance. They eventually turned up the gears in the second half to blow them out, but it was utterly disasterous for them in almost the first three quarters. That performance finished bumping them out of the AP top 25.

As a Michigan fan I couldn't be happier he is playing well for FLORIDA St and not MICHIGAN St. He was the only player that played really well for Sparty last year vs Michigan. Also, what's with FSU getting great players in the portal that play for schools in Michigan? They also got a great DL from Western Michigan, Braden Fiske. I feel bad for these MAC schools like WMU who are losing all their best players. Since I live in Kalamazoo, I go to a few WMU games every year and when I'm watching a player have a good game I think to myself, "I wonder where this guy is going to be playing next year". Now Western won't be able to have years like 2016 when they went undefeated and went to th Cotton Bowl because all your young talent just leaves. Sucks, but that's how it goes.

@@Jon.A.Scholt I have a lot of family that went to Michigan so I grew up rooting for them and remember Coleman being the only bright spot on MSU last year in that game. He was very close to coming to FSU out of high school but that was right after Taggart was fired so it was a mess until Norvell was able to turn it around. And Norvell is extremely successful in the portal, so whenever top guys go into the portal, he usually lands them. He got Jermaine Johnson who went on to be a first rounder, Jared Verse who is likely a top 5-10 overall pick, etc. Fiske’s hometown is 15-20 mins from Notre Dame and I was pumped when we beat them and USC out for him. Transfers love Norvell and staff bc they say they’re the most genuine and realest coaches they’ve talked to and I think that definitely resonates with transfers since they gotta make that decision count.

Also on Coleman’s first TD that was so open, the FSU coach set that play up earlier in the game as a normal screen pass since Clemson has a very aggressive defense. He called a similar play on the TD, but baited them and got the defense to bite on another screen but then Coleman cuts up field while the defender is over-pursuing

Hey guys great review as always. Florida State was a powerhouse team back in the 90s and start of 2000, then they seemed to have lost some of their sizzle. That is something that happens in college. Teams will rise for awhile and then grow cold for awhile. This year is classic for this as Bama, Clemson are examples of teams that might be cooling off a bit while Texas and FSU are starting on their upward trajectories. Even Georgia and Michigan have been that way the last few years while Ohio State and Bama have been slowing down. It actually is good for the sport, but for us fanatical fans, it is heartbreaking to seem them get so close and then lose. But that is why it is bigger than NFL, more teams, shorter season, every game counts. You guys picked a good season to start watching as it's starting to look like a good one developing. That blitz you were asking about looks like the RB missed his assignment. The blitz coming from the corner, sets it us as a bit of a delay so the RB would miss it. Glad you guys are enjoying the season so far, although Damo, I hope PSU doesn't make it too 12 and 0, as I want my Michigan Wolverines to end up there again. Keep up the great reviews!!

As a Florida State fan, I had to tell my friends who are hurricanes and gator fans that exact same thing the pendulum of college football always swings back the other direction. Florida State was literally a powerhouse in college football for nearly 4 decades. It was inevitable that they would get back to being good, you really got to give a tip of the hat to Mike Norvell. He has been smart with his recruiting and smart with the transfer portal. He knows what type of player will fit his system and does a great job developmentally.

I was at this game. Electric atmosphere. Great game. Just didn’t end the way I wanted to. Clemson had more overall yards, dominated run game, more first downs, way more time of possession. FG miss was a pain but can’t blame that kicker since he just joined the team last week after taking online classes. Fumble was huge momentum swing. Credit to FSU they showed up and made the plays they needed to make to win and Clemson couldn’t do that. Just gotta move on and get better each week. Go Tigers!

A "blitz" is when someone other than the normal defensive lineman goes full speed for the quarterback on a pass play. They can do at the snap of the ball, or they can wait a second after the ball is snapped. The key is to do it when the offense is not expecting it. Therefore, their blocking plans aren't prepared for the "blitzer".

On the defensive touchdown from the sack fumble, FSU runs a delayed blitz allowing no. 7 for Clemson who is responsible to for blitz pick up, to think nothing is coming and he can safely leave the backfield open to go out to be a "safety valve" receiver for the QB--he was mistaken.

The scary thing is that Jordan Travis is playing injured. He went down last week favoring his non-throwing arm and his ribs so the playbook was limited. He's usually very slippery and very hard to bring down which adds a whole other dimension for defenses to account for.

The reason Clemson was so amped up for this game, aside from it being against a top 5 team at home, is if they lost this one it would really mark the end of a dynasty. They’ve won 10+ games every season since 2010, and they’ve hardly had multiple conferences losses in a season, let alone before October. It’ll be interesting to see if they can stay focused the rest of the way, given that their main goals for this season are no longer possible

FSU vs Clemson has been a big rivalry for years, two teams that are generally good and even FSU's legendary coach Bobby Bowden used to coach against his Son Tommy when he was Clemson's head coach. As far as that still frame on the blitz where they stripped it and returned it for a touchdown, the running back should have been protecting the right side for a blitz and just missed the guy coming in so he released out to be an option to have the QB throw the ball too. The short of the rivalry: FSU used to dominate when they came into the same conference, not just against Clemson but they were a great program nationally. Clemson started winning about 50/50 of the matchups when FSU stopped being great. Then about 12 years ago, FSU won the title, went on a little streak against them. But Clemson took the reigns, has dominated over the last 8 years, won 2 national championships. This is FSU trying to take the reigns back from Clemson and become a national powerhouse again.

Florida State and Clemson **were** in the same division prior to this season, but the ACC changed their scheduling format this year to get rid of divisions. So instead of the conference being divided into 2 divisions of 7 teams each, it's now just one big pool of 14 teams with each team having 3 permanent rivals that get scheduled every year. I say "permanent rivals," but I guess some of those permanent games will have to change with new teams coming in next year and other teams potentially leaving, so we may only have this arrangement for this year. The Florida State-Clemson rivalry is what led to a lot of the criticism of the division format, because both teams being in the same division made the ACC lopsided. Clemson and Florida State of the Atlantic Division have combined to win all but one of the ACC Championship Games dating back to 2011, meanwhile there was a seven year stretch from 2013 to 2019 where all seven teams in the Coastal Division took turns winning the division and representing the Coastal in the conference championship game, only to lose to the Atlantic Division champs every time. The Coastal just lacked any dynastic programs that were good year in and year out. It was always a crapshoot to see who would come out on top.

Since the linebacker was lined up so far away from the line, the QB thought either 1. No way he’s blitzing, 2. If he is blitzing, he’s too far to make it to me before I release the ball. I’m sure the linemen and Running Back were all thinking the same too. So as long as the defensive backs can cover just a tad bit longer than usual the LB has a free shot at the QB.

Ok, lads. I played defense for 8 years and coached some as well. This is a little more difficult cause, theoretically, the runningback (#7 Phil Mahfa) is responsible for the blitzer. This was a good job by the defender. He timed his blitz perfectly. The RB is charged with picking up the blitz, but if a blitzer isn’t coming, he's supposed to leave the backfield and become a pass catcher. The defender waited just enough time so the back wouldn't think he was coming. The RB then started to leave the backfield. The quarterback has to have a mental clock in his head that should start to ring after about 3 or 4 seconds. The blitzer didn’t come from his blindside so he should've been able to see him. Sometimes, more than one guy can be at fault. This is one of those times. Cant wait for my Hurricanes to play FSU. I can't stand that team. We are bitter rivals. One of the best rivalries in all of college history. We play each other every year. Miami/FSU this year is gonna be a monster of a game. The U is back this year and will more than likely be undefeated when we play them. It's gonna be a classic. This rivalry has made for some of the greatest games in the history of the sport.

Good job guys. The experts seem to have been a bit too generous to many of the traditional powerhouses like Clemson, Bama, LSU etc this year. There aren't many teams without glaring deficiencies, particularly on the defense. Keep in mind that pretty much every year the best players on the team leave for the NFL or just graduate and lose eligibility. So teams are always integrating young, less experienced players into critical starting roles. And lets not forget how very young these guys are. 19, 20, 21 year old's playing in front of a live crowd of 60K to 100K, and millions on TV. College football is brutal both physically and psychologically. 🚑 My son play golf in college! Graduated this past June. ♥

This is gonna be a rough year as a Clemson fan. I can tell you what happened on the fumble play though- since Phil Mafah (#7) didn't get the handoff, he's supposed to help block. I'm guessing he didn't see the Florida State defender. This is why Mafah is Clemson's backup running back- he'll have a long run like he had in the clip before the fumble, then have a bad play like that. He had another bad play last season that was the turning point in another Clemson loss last season, link for that- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b69xptWm08nYfpc.html

Hey. We watched this game live on our Discord, watching along at the same time as members. Was a rough game, poor first half from both. 2nd Half Bama easily the better team though.

Don't say Florida--4-0--it is Florida State--not Florida (Gators) which are arch enemies--it is like saying Mancester United 4-0 when you mean Man City. Yikes! Well done otherwise. Keep 'em coming like free beer refills.

@DNReacts My Nephew played Baseball at FSU, so I've caught a truckload of crap from him this week. My best friend is a South Carolina Gamecock fan, so he's been a shit this week. I went to the University of West Florida in Pensacola and got my MBA from The University of South Florida.... So there's about 100 calls that I got on Saturday (I wore my Clemson hat everywhere in College). Sad,Sad week, but there's always another Saturday.... Rick Charleston SC

Florida state is an absolute national championship contender. The crazy thing is they haven beaten LSU and Clemson but they have yet to play their best game yet. So this teams best is still in front of them. GO NOLES 🍢
