So, that's an interesting assessment. Our Malamute, Bixby, is often the sheriff with the wolves. He knows the rules of the house and enforces them aggressively. He's also a huge tattletale. Lol In a situation like the one in this video, he understands that it's not his job to intercede. He has confidence that I'll either work it out or get eaten. Either way, it's not his problem.

Of this, there is no doubt. Part of the protocol we prefer to use when adding another animal to our household is to acquire them very early, generally when they're still on the bottle, so we achieve a particularly strong bond. @@QB_L it really depends upon the personality of the animal and the nature of the interaction. Mouth-licking is how wolves greet & how they express affection. You cannot build trust with them, & be accepted as Pack, without pushing past the ick-factor & just letting them do it. If you don't, you're basically spurning their handshake; it hurts their feelings - + it will shut down bonding early on, + creates distance in the relationship if one is already established. All lupine behaviouralists will tell you the same. He's interacting with her with the skill of an extremely experienced wolf expert. It's gross. I never could, myself. But for a wolf handler, it's the cost of doing business.

That's a thing that is required in order to bond with them & be accepted by the pack. Every professional wolf handler has been forced to get over the natural human desire to turn away from those wolfie French kisses, bc it's an interaction that is fundamental to their social system, & shutting it down reads as _a rejection_ of emotional imprint by the animals. Which basically shoots any budding connection in the foot. You can afford to politely rebuff an individual domestic dog that is trying to lick your mouth, as they are already fixated on you & also are in a submissive dynamic. You can't do the same with a socially-complex pack of wild animals for whom that contact is their version of a handshake, if you want to ever earn their affection, or even just their trust. Hope this helps! 😄

@@michaelhalstead7532 There are plenty of myths about wolves that are untrue. Wolves rarely attack family members. In my case, I'm familiar with their capabilities, know their behaviors, and respect them. We acknowledge the risk when working with exotic animals. For me, it's worth it.

Watching people who let animals lick them in their faces has always disgusted me. The wolves are beautiful animals but they’re animals not humans. I’ll never understand why people allow them to lick their faces.
@OliverTheWolfGuy

Because that's how wolves greet one another and if you were a professional animal handler, and you want to have the best relationship with your animals possible, you engage with them on their terms.

They also do this to convey lower social ranking and they lick each other’s genitals and privates so should you engage on there level there also??

If you find seeing someone's animals lick them on the face maybe watch other videos instead? Just a thought.

Well I agree but other than that I like watching the wolves interact with a human being. I find them fascinating especially in the wild. I watched a video once where the alpha wolf hunted down a young elk and wondered why they were after this particular one especially since this particular elk was in the water when the wolf attacked it. This was in Yellowstone where it happened and later a group of rangers found the skull of this elk and figured out it had a defect in its jaw. There was absolutely no way to see this defect but the wolves did. Then it made sense when you factor in how the eco system works and it’s fascinating to learn about these incredible animals.

, Not even a little. I bottle raised these animals. I've known them their whole lives. I'm very familiar with their behavior and I'm not the least bit intimidated. If I was intimidated I would've made mistakes which would have got me attacked in this situation.

They're not crazy, it's their nature, they're wild animals. Why are white people like this with wild animals? what is wrong with you all? They're not house pets who are domesticated. It is you who are crazy for thinking that they're going to be nice, when their nature is to be wild and unpredictable in attack.

I've worked with wolves for over 35 years. It's what I studied in college. I've written hundreds of articles about wolves, wolf behavior, and how to handle captive exotic animals. You're awfully judgemental for somebody that hasn't even bothered to check my background.

In the wrong hands, she would definitely be dangerous. But as an experienced handler I've known her from almost the day she was born and I understand her personality. Her bitchiness is a feature not a bug. 😆 I've always preferred the most intense animals and her intensity is 10 of 10.
