You ever seen the "poor man's winch"? helped drag a guy out of a shallow breakaway who'd grenaded his front drive shaft, had tied a rope to the shaft, wound some more round and made a mess with tie wire and a circlip, ran the other end over the road to a tree. Think you can see where this is going. Turns out uni-joints don't like a couple tonnes of lateral force, who'd have thunk it? Fella reckoned he'd used that trick to get out of sand before. Can't say I'd heard or seen it before then, incredibly risky. Needs independent suspension for the naked shaft too I guess, so that suggests something in and of itself.

On a Caribbean cruise, my wife collected a little ziplock bag of sand from each island. Security screening at one island seized the little 2oz bag of sand and said "that's not allowed" - and it's not like they were preserving it for their beach, they threw the bag in the trash. I got some newspaper from a porter and spread it on the floor of our room, and captured a reasonable amount of sand off our legs, clothes, shoes, towels, etc. Apparently the ziploc bag itself was the problem? 😂

I wouldn't blame him if he charged a lot for some of these rescues, they are no joke, just the gas alone would be a lot, towing trailer, sometime trailer with another truck on it to! But yeah, I'm sure what ever he charges is fair for the work he does. I don't think he would gauge people or else people would be commenting more about that instead of how awesome, kind, and nice they are. Like that woman he drove home the other night at 2am. Never forget the risk to his own equipment. Risk costs lots. I go offroad and take responsibility and precautions to evacuate myself. In 30 years of wheeling I only had to ask a stranger for help once on the Rubicon. On that trail most everybody helps everybody not only because you're often blocking the trail, but everyone wants to help. Its a karma thing. You could always be the guy who needs help at the next obstacle!

Tell me Lizzy, which was more fun? Getting trailered out of there sitting backwards, or the few miles when you were being dragged along in the remains of a car with no wheels, and if my memory serves me, with doors which were stuck wide open. I have yet to see you say no to doing anything, even when the boys back out. You are the star of the show.

Suggestion of having 2 steel tubes ( 1 1/2 - 2 inches in diameter ) that are long as trailer is wide, maybe a couple inches longer. They can be used for leverage to shift broken rigs while loading as well as rollers to assist in pulling up ramps. They could store under trailer in a craddle with locks to secure.
