WE DID IT! WE HIT FIVE THOUSAND SUBSCRIBERS! AND IT'S ALL THANKS TO YOU!! 👏👏
Okay, so we DID say we were going to take a break from all the acapella groups eventually. The problem with that is the same problem we have with the other artists on our page. THEY KEEP PUSHING CONTENT! And apparently our guys in Home Free are no different! On July 30th, the group uploaded their rendition of "Crazy," originally performed by Pasty Cline. We feel they did a fantastic job with this one, and completely paid tribute to the original. Nothing crazy or out of control on this one. Just a very nice, relaxing, easy-listening song that'll take you back in time. Let's listen in and see what the boys are up to!

Careful sonny, we 70's + are not your regular old grannies and gramps. Love your reaction. There was one part while I was paying attention to Austin, bobbing my head in time to the beat, I looked up and y'all were doing the same and we were all keeping time. Classics like this know no generation for appreciation. Good music never looses it's appeal. It was so close to the feelings I had when I first heard the original when I was a young'un, that it was a perfect tribute. Keep reactin' and this feeble old woman will keep watchin'!

You said it just right! They bridge a generation gap with the songs they choose. My 81 year old Mom loves this song by Patsy Cline and this song made her a Home Fry. She was already impressed before this but this song did it. I grew up listening to her love it and their version just impressed me to no end. Just so clean and such pure music without any vocal acrobatics, but it's so complex in its arrangement. Really love watching you guys dig into Home Free thanks for another fantastic reaction.

I'd say another cover that I really enjoyed was John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads." Their arrangement and performance surprised me in many ways but in some ways, it didn't surprise me at all because it was Home Free being Home Free! All John Denver and all Home Free at the same time. But then, which is of their covers is any different, honestly, right?

The greatest thing about this cover, for me, is the arrangement and performance of the background vocals and percussion. It is so beautiful, and so spot on for the period in time. Austin is wonderful, but the backing makes the song. I would love to hear Rob take the lead for “Walkin’ After Midnight”.

Y’all might really enjoy reacting to their Sing-off performances; including the judges’ reactions. One was the lead tenor of Boyz to men (Sean?), and he raved about Austin’s singing. They also were blown away by Tim’s bass. You can see how tight they were on 2013. This configuration of present members began in 2013
@charlesrich9267

I really enjoy the fact that they are typically known for being a country a capella group but like all good musicians have the ability to stylistically switch to other genres. Tim and Austin who usually "stick out" the most are both stylistically correct with Austin having vowels that are typically associated with big band style jazz and Tim being a nonchalant walking bass without dropping his voice an octave for the fun of it because he can. At 11:00 the dissonce is an augmented 4th which resolves into a perfect 5th on Austins part. The clash is actually against Tim who is singing the 5th of the chord so as far as the scale goes Tim is singing above Austin but it's an Augmented 11th.

I love that Tim's bass is not over the top and fits the style of the music...when he does drop low, it is always tasteful to the music.....my one complaint about Geoff sometimes is he drops the bass as a gimick, or it appears that way....but...he has soo many good songs as well were the bass fits the song....thats just me....Great reaction as always!

I agree 100% about Geoff! I'm not about to take anything away from his talent, but just because you CAN do something doesn't always mean that you SHOULD do it. Tim shows off too, but very rarely does it detract from the overall sound of the group.
@indecx1878
@indecx1878 3 жыл бұрын
It is just my opinion and I'm a bass enthusiast but whenever there's an acapella cover from these groups, I want it to be different than the original. I want to hear something different. Home Free became who they are because of Tim's bass. I would've loved if Tim did some low notes here. I looked at this song in a spectrogram and they even copied Tim's bassline and moved it down an octave so it would sound more full. So I tried redoing the bass of the song. I completely dropped the copied low end and instead just added my own low notes wherever I felt they fit. If Tim did these in chest (which he is fully capable of doing), it would sound close to what I have and that feels much more satisfying than just copying the bassline and moving it down an octave so that he doesn't have to do any low notes. It's not over the top and it sounds almost exactly the same. I agree that Geoff sometimes drops it as a gimmick and it doesn't sound great sometimes but I like what VoicePlay does much more. They always do their own spin on the songs. It feels like Home Free has much lower expectations now than they did a year or two ago.
@wirelessmikedj7784
@wirelessmikedj7784 3 жыл бұрын
@@indecx1878 thats is a very valid point, and excellent breakdown of the point being discussed...and I agree, but there also seems to be a sentiment among listeners that it is rather cool to pay homage to the original but still add some stylistic choices to make it their own. I guess I am just more of a purist and I love music for music, but at least we both agree that sometimes it can sound like a gimmick and detracts from the actual song itself.

@@wirelessmikedj7784 Thanks for not immediately hating on me for giving my opinion. I absolutely agree with you that sometimes Geoff does it as a gimmick and it doesn't sound that good, for example in Blackbird, he really should've saved that last E1 for the last chord. I just think that Home Free is really underusing Tim. He is an incredible bass with an insane range. So why not use it? I know most people like Home Free as just a normal acapella group and I completely respect that. I just see it as a missed opportunity sometimes. If you or anyone else is interested in what I made, I put the bass remix on youtube so you can listen to it and see what it could've been. The only thing I regret about it is cutting the ending. It felt out of place when I made it but I definitely would've left it in now. Here's the link to it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fcmPa6eE3pqXoJs.html Info about it is in the description and in the pinned comment. (Land of the Free is also a song with missed potential which is also on the channel) I hope it doesn't sound like an advertisement, I genuinely want to know what people think of it.

This channel is loads of fun! Send grandma an email and go to her house and she'll give you stuff! lol So true!! Funny thing is that I turned into my mother because she used to always unload stuff to me, and now I try to give stuff to my grown kids. Anyway, on to the video! Home Free just knows how to knock these songs out of the ball park! They're just so darned amazing! What can't they do? I'd love to see y'all react to their covers of "Mayday" (in the same key as Cam, the original female artist), or "Castle On the Hill"! Oh, they recorded "Crazy" in the same key that Patsy sang in, by the way. I love your reactions and excitement over the group's music! Now that you remember all of the guys' name, you can call yourself a true Home Fry!

By far my favourite cover by Home Free! As proven by my Spotify wrap lol Chris saw it 😅 I love watching your reactions because I have nobody around me who appreciates music like this like I do. Watching you is so comforting because we share SO many of the same thoughts! You guys are awesome! I'd love to be able to hang out and talk music!

I really appreciate you taking the time to check out the original before reacting to a Home Free cover...it adds so much to your analysis! Please, please do this with their cover of Megan Trainor's "All About That Bass" in which Home Free mirrors her video in a hilarious fashion that only they can pull off 🤠😂🤣😜 And don't ever apologize for revisiting cool parts of their songs...us Home Fries 🍟 looove that 😊 Thanks for another great reaction, guys! Oh... and for a real treat to you and your viewers, add "Home Free - All About That Bass [Behind the Scenes Blooper Reel]" as a bonus 🤪🤣

Love that you're reacting to this so soon I love your little tangents you go on lol Thus is so good. I love the black and white. They covered it just as it should have been done. They sung it in the same key as Patsy did Wooohooo you got them all correct rob would probably like being called overalls lol They have had this in their back pocket for awhile and decided now was the time to do it. They have 3 or 4 more videos coming Broken Road (Rascal Flatts) One Man Band And I know a Huey Lewis and the News song. I'm thinking this might be a funny one but that's just my opinion lol

Willie Nelson wrote this song, he did an excellent job and Patsy did it justice. I like the Home Free cover just as much as I like Patsy’s version. Willie also recorded this but I haven’t listened to his version in a long time so I don’t know how it compares

You have to see them singing “When A Man Loves A women” by Percy Sledge to see the same vocal setup in a different genre and vibe!

Great reaction! Home Free knocked it out again. Tim Foust loves doowap songs and I wonder if he wasn't the one to bring it up.

Just a random note: Something people don't always notice is Tim's hand. When Tim is singing background, you will often (not always) see his hand moving up and down to match his notes. I believe for the lower notes, this technique helps him get lower - but you will see it at other times - this video is a good example. Love the reactions! You should watch Fulsom Prison Blues for some crazy bass, American Pie feat. Don McLean for 7+ minutes of Adam's percussion.
