Let's be frank - Final Fantasy is roughly the only thing keeping the lights on over at square enix. And the reality being that their golden goose isn't what it was compared to its prime in the 90s and 2000s, where people would happily buy a PlayStation to get the newest Final Fantasy title. Square enix made a huge mistake doing timed exclusivity for FF7R. It burned a lot of OG fans, especially when they did PS5-exclusive DLC for the PS4 title. Once you tell the fans "you can just wait for a PC release," the fans can just as well "just wait for a steam sale" any damn way. Simultaneous PC launch would help tremendously imo. Also, these people who have a hard on against the switch are just weird. It's not like SE will stop putting out their high quality games on THEIR favorite console... they'll just put em out on more consoles. More money for your favorite company can only be a good thing

FFXVI did not run that well on the PS5 tbh. Probably due to Squares shortcomings tbh. So getting it to run well on the Steamdeck or Switch 2 won’t be that easy considering these shortcomings and struggles with the PlayStation 5. They should get saber interactive to make Switch 2 ports.

What can you do? Those people will ALWAYS exist no matter what.

My only concern with this multiplat Triple A strategy is that SquareEnix is terrible with turnaround times on ports. We still have not heard anything of the FFXVI PC port and it has been nearly 11 months since the release of that game on PS5. Having Square games get their release dates delayed a year plus or more is not cool. Hopefully it all pans out for SquareEnix.

Glad Square Enix is moving away from console exclusives. It's not like Sony owns them. Even though FFVII Remake was one of the best 2020 games, it'd sell much more if it wasn't tied to just PS4 and PS5.

I honestly want this plastic worshipping to stop. And FF started on nintendo something that people like profit doesn't realize. I will be glad to see FF come back to the system that made square blow up in the first place.

There's a way to put things into perspective, PS5 has 10tflops, switch 2 reportedly has 4tflops, meaning ps5 is a bit more than double performance being such a big box. Compared to ps4 which was almost 5 times the performance of the Switch. With that in mind, all things a ps5 can do at target res of 4k, Switch 2 can at target res of 1440p, and let's not forget those tensor cores for DLSS.

Nintendo agreeing to pay to publish games like Octopath isn’t the same as Sony paying for exclusivity. One is transparent and helpful. The other is a deal with the devil. Square learned.

Always a good thing to see a third party publisher embrace more platforms. Sega, Bandai, and Capcom are all loving live right now so I only see this as a good thing. Hopefully all of them join square enix in supporting switch 2 big time

The Switch 2 GPU will probably be more efficient than Steam Deck, since Nvidia Laptop GPUs are more efficient than AMD's. Then the CPU being ARM makes it way more difficult to compare. The Switch 2 could be pretty close to Apple's M SoCs in design and performance.

I seriously doubt the Switch 2 will be much stronger than the Steam Deck, but it'll be very awesome to see SE support Nintendo more. I'm much more excited about them supporting PC, though. They said they're going to "port catalogue tiles," which I hope means Xenogears, older Dragon Quest games, OG Trials of Mana, and maybe making a much better port of Chrono Trigger. The PC port as is is really bad.

I think this a very smart move as I have given up on consoles. I can build a nice PC that does so much more. And it was not that hard. Everything you need to know to build a PC you can watch on KZfaq. I built a $1200 PC, buying piece by piece each month, that is better than a PS5.

I have seen people mainly talk about that they dissagree with the fact that the AAA games sales(at least when it comes to FF ip games) is a contributing reason why SE go multiplatform. Their reason is that from their understanding the FF games are profitable. While I don't know if they are profitable (but do remember that maybe FF16 was), that doesn't mean the FF games sold well enough. FF is SE biggest IP(or at least most well known ip), so SE probably need them to be more than just profitable. This being because every studio needs games that sell so well that they cover up for failures, and from what I can remember FF16 and FF rebirth at the very least didn't do this. I will say that SE have a very high amount of both AAA and AA games that were failures, so maybe it was too much to ask for the FF ip to be able to cover for that. Of course SE have made a multitude of mistakes that have pushed them to change strategy to go more multiplatform, like fx selling too many games over a very short time period while also not having enough marketing.

If this is the case, im getting excited for NS to play some of Ps exclusive games. Considering the loss of SE with FF 17, going on multiplatform release of these so called exclusives will help them bounce back.

I think what annoys them is PS and X are losing their exclusivity where as Nintendo can still keep theirs because … you know … Nintendo make good games.

This is why I game on all plats I own switch OLEDs PS5s Xbox series X/S’s PS portal and a 4090 gaming PC. My only issue with the switch 2, which I hope they call it the Super Nintendo switch is the rumored LCD display. I can’t use LCD for me it’s OLED or nothing, so I guess mine will stay in dock mode till they make a OLED mod when I get it.

I haven't lurked Twitter for quite a while, but in most of the gaming forums that I tend to visit I've seen more of a positive reaction in regards to Square-Enix's statements of focusing in multiplatform development, especially if it means that some of its games will arrive to PC. Not to mention that others are kind of OK with the possibility that VII Remake could arrive to the Switch's successor To be fair, I think most of the Final Fantasy fandom which grew up with FFVII as their first title in the series have a sort of obsession with the series being tied to the PlayStation family of consoles just for some sort of tradition, I remember that some folks reacted very negatively when it was announced that FFXIII would arrive to the Xbox 360 back in the day, or when Cloud was added to Smash Bros. as a playable character

A multiplatform approach doesn't necessarily mean that there couldn't be timed exclusives. They could always release FFXVII on PS or PS and PC first, then release them on other consoles a few months later. Indies sometimes do so-called launch exclusives, where a game launches on the Switch first. Armchair devs really like to talk about "impossible ports". I remember when people were arguing that NierA or P5R couldn't possibly come to the Switch. We know how that turned out.

With Nintendo switch 2 having DLSS 3 support it can handle SE games no problem! 4K - 1080p! It's super easy to make games on Switch since its under powered its like making a phone game and its profitable! just enjoy we get to see experience DAY 1 SE games and not having a PS5

I find cross-platform availability to be a positive thing for any company (I know they get paid for exclusivity) - you expand your player base, you expand the amount of people who might otherwise never have seen a specific games series. In the end, more (and if they cut down on the amount and focus on quality) and better games for everyone. What's not to like?

The Switch 2, if it has DLSS< we gotta hope it does, that is real secret sauce, game changer. We mioght get very good looking games with fgood framerates if it has DLSS. Games can render 720p but dlss upscale to 1080p or 1440p or even 4k and look amazing. I wuldm like to see720p native rendeing and DLSS up to 1080p. We gotta keep power usage down becuase handheld, so this would be excellent, and no more 30fps games.

As much as they want to laugh at the (unconfirmed) Switch 2 specs. Square will go were the players are and if they see an opportunity they will put any game on Switch 2. People like Genki consistantly said FF16 & 7 Rebirth were doing great numbers on PS5... This change in strategy completely proves them wrong.

I felt like they had a lot of success on switch. I honestly have stopped playing PS5 recognizing I may play many of these games on Switch 2. I’m really busy too like the switch just fits my life better. That might be the only way many of us can complete a game like FF7 remake! I also think as much as I like the PS5 I’d rather play with the pro controller. I’ll just be real. That PS5 controller doesn’t feel as good. It’s heavy lol.

Of course Sony fanboys are upset. If a Nintendo console and Sony console become equal in terms of third party support, it comes down to third party games and legacy libraries. In that scenario, it’s obvious who’s going to be more popular.

Let me be blunt: I always bought PS consoles from PS2 u until the PS5 (haven't bought a PS5) because the games I want, linear story driven jrpgs (usually anime style), almost always only released on PS consoles during the PS2 and later PS3 (granted it started off slow on that console) era and in the beginning of the PS4 era...however as of the PS4 era 90% of those games have been coming out on PS4 (and PS5), Switch, and PC and even occasionally Xbox 1/Series and it seems most devs that would've done just 1 console in the past are planning to go multiplatform (at least 1 console and PC if nothing else). Most Falcom games are going all multiplatform now as of Daybreak/Ys X/I assume Tokyo Xanadu 2 when it releases as well with their unreleased games in the west and if I'm right Ys X came to Switch on release day for all consoles in Japan and my guess is Kai no Kiseki will as well (they apparently have still not listed all consoles and it releases sometime later this year in Japan) and if we look at Tales all games since Zestiria have been either multiplatform on almost all consoles and PC (Vesperia and Symphonia ports) or on PS4/5 and PC day 1 in the west anyway (Zesty and Berseria released on PS3 first in Japan and then got PC/PS4 ports at the same time as the west go the games...granted Zesty doesn't show PC for Japan but I doubt the west has it and they don't so the wiki probably needs to be updated or Steam has some workaround to get the Japanese sub and dub I guess (well the WW version has the dub if I'm right as an option...i think)) and Arise has it on pretty much all modern platforms besides Switch (maybe it'll get a port onto Switch 2 as if said console can handle up to Xbox Series it should work find there...and if it's a handheld hybrid console than Namco would be dumb not to port it and the other PS4 games at the very leas...wish they'd also bring us the unreleased Japanese titles while they're at it though). So given all the above more or less means almost all games I want will also likely be coming to other consoles besides Sony's and PC i likely won't NEED a PS to play the games I want to play as I have those other options now (and of those I'd probably go the Switch/Switch 2 first as I've been preferring playing handheld more than playing on TV...only reason to grab another console besides it or PC would be if the game's technical aspects are just too much even for the Switch 2 and that's it). Throw in all the BS Sony's been pulling from the Steam linking BS to censorship to BS prices/no sales on the PS5 and I've very little reason to buy a Sony console at this point (throw in all the games I want are also coming to PS4 (which I'll buy there if it doesn't run on Switch as I already own a PS4 anyway) and work fine on it so I don't need a PS5) tbh. The ONLY reason to buy a PS5 (or future PS consoles) that I may have is if there's a game that can't run on my PS4 that's a must grab immediately for me, if enough games release on it that I want that can only be bought there, for the sake of my PS4 disc games if my PS4 decides it's had enough (which I've had a few crashes and other issues recently so maybe that will be needed in a few years...obviously I'd be buying disc only version), and finally if I want to continue buying physically (if the next PS console is digital only then there's little reason for me to stay on consoles at all...the only reason I have been there over PC is I prefer physical discs over digital so if they're gonna take that option away consoles besides probably Nintendo aren't worth it (and I'm only saying I may continue to buy Nintendo as unlike most other developers Nintendo will probably never go PC and are even more rabid than Disney in their copyright protections so Pirating games on said system is likely to be far harder as any pirate site you may go on one day may be shut down the next/hours after you're on it...and that's still not assuming they could go after the person who gets the pirated copy as well (which is more in a gray area if I'm right...the seller they definitely can go after, not really sure about the buyer...I wouldn't be surprised if they try though and in their attempt to try bankrupt the individual in the process via court fees/pulling them away from work to go to court (Disney loves that tactic so wouldn't be surprised to see other large companies like Nintendo exploit it too)).

Hey oj you said a million times that ff16 flopped and now you’re saying “does it mean ff16 flopped? No” 😂😂. I’ll say it one more time. SE and Sony have a 6 month exclusivity deal for those ff games. There IS a reason why they didn’t release on other consoles and that reason wasn’t because of the 6 month exclusivity deal at all. SE should now stop being lazy and when they make another 6 month deal (ff17) they should be ready right away to release that game on pc or switch 6 months later period.

People do realize that it was never full exclusivity. Just timed Im sure they could put ff7 remake on xbox if they wanted. It just never sells well. And nintendo cant run it. So it made sense to make the deal with sony when they did. Also people dont realize that nintendo has more square enix games that were timed exclusives.
