Saying Goodbye | Seeing My Birth Family
We do something that is very life changing for all of us. We take Lucas and Savannah to see their birth family and say goodbye to someone who played a big role in their lives. Saying goodbye is hard, but seeing my birth family provided so much closure.

The fact that grandma kept all their stuff.. even down to Savannah having her money still shows how loved they are. This was such an important trip for their mental which I'm sure you've realized by now. So so sad they got tore away from their family, but so happy that you found each other ❤️

@@ashleecollinsworth5039 I just watched it again and savanna said that their grandma would hit the boys with her cane after surgery, which I guess I didn't remember because of how fondly she talked of her when they went to get their stuff. They obviously both cared for her, she obviously loved them as well, just not in the correct way. I don't want anyone to ever feel bad for loving someone that abused them, it makes them feel dumb, or like their feelings are misplaced. So regardless of what their grandmother did you can see here that they were loved, which is all my comment was stating❤️

I’m glad they got to see their grandmother and also that she got to see them! She could rest easier knowing they are in a good place and taken care of by people who love them. I’m also happy they got to revisit the part of their lives that weren’t bad and where they felt loved. Crystal has such a kind heart. I’ve watched her cry both happy and sad tears for all her babies and it takes a very special person to have that connection with children you are just getting to know. I can’t say enough good about Aaron and Crystal in the way that they are answering a calling. This is what they’re meant to do.

What impresses me most about this video isn't the trip to see their family as much as you living the belief you have that there is enough love for them to be able to love you, Aaron, and your family at the same time that you give them the "permissions" to still express the love for their biological family. You don't play the game that they have to love you more, but that they can love all of you. That says more to them than anything else you could do for them. Kudos to you and Aaron. As for Luke and Savannah, so very sorry to hear of the illness of your Grandma. The memories of her will be a blessing.

I was overwhelmingly struck by the generosity you and Aaron displayed in making sure the kids had the chance to embrace their bio family at this critical time. I saw the hurt in your eyes realizing how much of their prior lives are unknown to you as their present and forever parents. I love both Lucas and Savannah and I am so glad that they have had the opportunity to join your family and be secure in the knowledge that you respect where they came from and want the best for their futures.💗💗

Just letting your kids still feel like loving their bio family is okay means so much to them. I wish more parents did this with just dad and mom. So many moms or dads will try to turn their child on the other parent, which puts so much stress and anger on them. No matter what the kids parent did to you has nothing to do with the children. If you love your kids let them love both parents equally.

I think that maybe what you were trying to describe is that you got to be present where they once lived their lives. This was beautiful on so many levels. It's so good that they were able to see their grandma before she passed so they got to get that closure. Being a retired ICU nurse, I know for a fact that Grandma got closure as well and that is SO important for her as well in her situation. By everyone getting that opportunity, Savannah and Lucas will feel so much better now as they grow into more mature and grounded adults. If they hadn't gotten this opportunity, or found out about their Grandma after she had passed, there would probably be feelings and regrets much differently than the positive ones they have now. You are great parents Aaron and Crystal.

Yes! I get that she wanted to direct their thoughts to positive things that would happen, but still. Rewording in this situation could have gone something like, “are you looking forward to seeing your cousins?” Or even not assuming at all and asking, “how are you feeling about seeing your cousins today?” giving them a chance to give a real answer, not just a yes or no to a feeling that she thinks they should be having.

Children don't end up in the foster care system for no reason. If the parents are not able to take care of the children - for whatever reason - it would be good to place them with the extended family. But even that doesn't always work, for example because a new start is necessary and *not* because the family is really bad. There were certainly bad memories too on that trip back, but it seemed like Savannah and Lucas left the old life on good terms. It's always great when adoptees know where they're from, understand why they were adopted, and even better when they can maintain positive biological family connections. I'm happy for S & L that they were able to do this and for C & A as parents to have this opportunity. It's a win for everybody. 🥰

My prayers are with Savannah and Lucas, you and Aaron as you help them navigate through their grief, and their family. So much love you have shown these children. God bless you all. The wall measurements were done with my kids too. It was so special.

Thank you for showing us this part of adoption and being so real and honest about it. I started watching your channel 2 years ago because i was searching for adoption channels since i plan to adopt the rest of my children (i have 1 bio son and i would like to adopt a couple of siblings since im a single mom i dont think more would be responsible for me). I learn so so much from watching you. It may make you uncomfortable to hear this bec you might think you're just doing what a mom (and dad) should do, but you are an inspiration. Thank you.

Such a touching video. I have been noticing prior to this video how much closer Lucas and Savannah seem, and especially how close they have grown to their forever family. They have bloomed. Seeing how much this visit meant to them, you, and the bio family members there was heartwarming. I know seeing their grandma and getting to say their goodbyes must have been incredibly hard, yet brought them peace to see her as well. I am so happy for the closure this brought to Lucas and Savannah. When Lucas looked out one way from the car and said that over there is where the bad memories were was so sad, but also he felt strong enough to say that which shows he knows he has a safe and loving forever family and he is willing to open up about the bad times. And Savannah was quick to point out with him that the other direction is where the good memories were. Thank you for sharing this life-changing trip with all of us.

Being able to go back to where you grew up and seeing all your old belongings still there untouched must be surreal. Almost like travelling back in time. Seeing the height chart on the wall brought back so many memories because my family done that when we were growing up and id love to be able to see that again😩🤍

God bless you Aaron and Crystal. As meaningful as the visit was for you I'm sure it was for their extended bio family too. Not to mention Lucas and Savanah! It just comforts my soul to know there are people like you guys and Jared and Shelley as well, that are such amazing people and parents. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you do and for being so open and sharing. Lucas and Savanah I'm so sorry for the loss of your grandma and your life together with your bio family. I'm so grateful you ended up where you are and that they are still able to be part of your lives. You guys are such great kids and are going to have amazing lives. Sending love from Wilsonville Oregon.

😭 I am so happy for all of you. What an experience to have. Thank you for bringing them to say goodbye to their grandmother. I'm so glad they got closure and to share that piece of themselves with you. 😭 This is something you don't have to share with anyone, it's so intimate but it's so emotional and lovely.

It's great that you could share all this with them but especially that there were only the four of you that day. Having so many kids/responsibilities, it's wonderful that you could take the time to take them on such an important journey. As you said, it makes you wonder whether you could do sth similar with some of your other kids. You guys are awesome and you've created a beautiful and super kind family. Thanks for making the world a better place.

That warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. I am so happy for Lucas and Savannah to be able to go back and see and touch their memories and family 🤗!! I'm sorry it was under sad circumstances. My memories all burnt down in Paradise CA. Including the home I grew up in my whole 0-18 years, that my Mom and Dad built in 1970. And many other houses my Dad built. Hold on to your memories 😊😍😘!!!!!!

Aaron and Chrystal, you are both so precious ...So much has happened in your family these last few months and yet you still give 120% .., I can imagine that you must be deeply exhausted, so I pray for strength and a period where you can just catch up on some rest and recoveryXXXX

I am so sorry about your grandma Lucas and Savannah. I am thankful you were able to get time to say goodbye and for her to see you and tell you she loves you. Having lost my grandma as an adult I am so glad to have those memories of her love. Glad you got to go get your keepsakes and pictures and spend some time with your bio family. Lucas, good job on the present for Elijah. I love that you have been able to share memories with everyone showing that life always has good and bad and that they don't define you but help to shape you into the amazing young people you are becoming.
