Jack was one of the greatest all-around musicians of our generation, second to none. Too bad Ginger NEVER accepted any responsibility for anything. If you listened to Ginger tell the stories, nothing was ever his fault. Jack was the genius of Cream and beyond, and rest his soul.

I got the impression Baker was a bit of a bully and Jack, being a bolshy Scot, wouldn't let him away with it, hence the tension between them.

@@63mckenzie yes. Jack certainly knew how to make Ginger angry... He was a difficult, complex character too (something he admitted). Still, their musical chemistry was second to none.

One can be both a genius and an asshole. Ginger was such a fellow. Jack and Eric were also geniuses, minus the asshole component, best I can tell.

@@derhandtrommler An excellent way of putting it. Ginger had the unfortunate make-up of being a stellar, pioneering musician, a true original - in the same body as a narcissistic bully, apparently. And because he could do things with a drum kit no one else could do especially early on, people just got out of his way. An interesting, complicated man.

I did FoH for Jack on 3 tours in the mid-80s, Bruce/Clemson/Leahy/Gary; we'd be playing some little venue in the Scottish Highlands and Jack would be musing "we're a stadium band, really". He wasn't wrong.

After the Royal Albert Hall Reunion shows Eric was really pumped up - he loved it - but then Ginger and Jack fought during the MSG shows on stage - and would not rehearse for those shows in NY to Eric's liking - I believe that if Ginger and Jack had gotten along at MSG then Eric would have continued revisiting with Cream from time to time - but once those two started arguing like they did in the '60's they lost Eric for good.

Well said, sad but bad blood ran between those two since the early 60s, didn’t Ginger “date” Jacks wife Janet? Oh well 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

A few years ago someone made a documentary about and with Ginger Baker in which it became clear that he was a rather sad, but violent nutcase.

I was at one of the Madison Square Garden shows. It was a magical night. Lightning in a bottle probably would not have lasted for a year long world tour. But the 3 each brought out the best possible music in each other. I’m happy they had any closure at all in 2005.

As nice as the thought might be, I could NEVER imagine the three of them being able to put together a new album without someone getting hurt. The RAH show was beautiful. But the reunion was nothing more than a remembrance of what was legendary.

Malcolm seems to be such a fine. It would be nice to hear more about him rather than just his father. The Jack and Ginger feud goes way back to when they were in the Graham Bond Organisation, a band that musos including Clapton loved. At one point Bond, incapacitated by his bad habits gave Ginger, who also had drukg issues, the okay to fire Jack. But Jack refused to be fired by Ginger and continued to show up for gigs until the angry drummer pulled a knife out and threatened to do him if he showed up again. The issue at the MSG reunion gig was, according to Ginger, the volume of Jack's bass, which was also a key point of contention in Cream. I was surprised that there was no mention of the excellent BB&M - Bruce, Baker & Moore, who gigged and did the very Cream-reminiscent album 'Around the Next Dream'. IMO they were a better Cream than what reunited a few years later. Gary Moore not only had the right guitar - Peter Green's Les Paul - he had the right attitude, which is something Clapton himself admits to having lost decades ago. Moore was also a great singer and a great foil for Jack, as they would play off of each other with total ferocity. But please, more with Malcolm...who unlike his very Scottish father exhibits no hint of Glasgow.

Love Malcom's memories and humor. Disheartening to now know that Cream v.2 could've been a reality but that personality / ego conflicts and emotions flared up suddenly and drove a stake through that idea. I mean, I loved Ginga too but beware of Mr. Baker was real. 🤷‍♀

Jack and Ginger really needed the money. Their health and egos prevented what could have been big money.

@@Luileadolfo I advise Mr. Bruce to read the relevant part of the book, but in a nutshell Clapton didn't really want to carry on after London. MSG made them an offer they couldn't refuse so they took it. The experience, however, was so bad that Clapton regretted having done so (and no subsequent offer was going to interest him). He took solace only in the fact that Jack and Ginger were set for life.

I've seen conflicting information on the net. Kofi is touring as Kofi Baker's Cream Faith, and some sites show Malcom playing and some don't. I imagine it's whoever can schedule. There are lots of great musicians who can play the catalog

It was never going to happen. Clapton was done with the squabbling between Bruce and Baker. RAH was great and for the right reasons, MSG was purely for the money, and it showed in the performances. I don’t believe Bruce himself would have ever wanted to reform again according to his post 2005 interviews, plus both Jack and Ginger’s health was in decline.

Well, Ginger was nuts as was his family and Clapton was so well established (especially after the, "MTV Unplugged", project and, "Tears In Heaven") that he didn't need the drama or to rely on them. Especially since they never had significant commercial success in decades without Clapton in the first place. That's why. Plus by the 2000's the music world could see and understand that the public were no longer buying music. They were just stealing it. Were. They don't even bother stealing it any more because they don't care any more. You may suggest as live acts but no those are just social events. Clowns perform and tour live too, but no one cares what kind of music they make and do.
