Creamy Chicken Chasseur with Mushrooms

Күн бұрынChicken chasseur is a French dish, known in France as poulet chasseur, It consists of fried or sauté chicken served hot, with sauce chasseur, which is based on mushrooms, shallots, tomatoes and a dry white wine. I also add a simple home made chicken stock, cream and tarragon herbs. The name derives from the French chasseur, meaning “hunter”. It’s a fairly simple dish to make and always a popular dish. Enjoy my version of chicken chasseur.

Saying you miss your knives had me chuckling. Whenever I'm cooking anywhere other than home with not so good knives....it's hard! I'm used to my sharp wusthofs.

Fantastic recipe Joel 🇫🇷 here’s a tip a Make shift idea for sharpening a knife. Turn a ceramic bowl upside down, wet the base and slowly run the blade around. It’s effective but not a long term solution 👍❤️

I did sharpen them a little on a stone outside, it helped a bit, but thanks for the tip, I'll try that next time!

I'm travelling in France and he's in Australia, but I found a new friend. Pompon, the farmer's dog next door! Whiskey will be back in a couple weeks.

Perfect ! I cook mine exactly like that as well. I wouldn’t eat un poulet chasseur these days, rather in autumn or winter (then again I don’t live in Britain 😅) but it really is one of my favorite “plat en sauce” to cook and eat.

I will be making this tonight, in fact I am leaving work right now to do so. I love tarragon, very underrated herb in my world. Though I always have dry, I had my local grocer bring in fresh ☺. I'll give you an update later. ::Update:: This was very good. Light and tasty. I put extra tarragon 🤫but felt I needed more. Next time I think I will use fresh tarragon. Thank you for the recipe!

I feel for your "this isn't my kitchen" experience. Anyone who has rented a vacation home, or stayed with a friend has experienced it. Watching the video, I can see the little bit of awkwardness from not having your usual cookware. Still, a magnificent job. Great video.

I discovered this dish a few years ago and decided it was the best of the best. I’ve never tasted anything better, before or since. It is nearing he unbearably hot portion of my year so I won’t b doing any heavy stove work until fall. I’m glad you had a local pup nearby and hope Whisky is doing OK without his person. Can you pick up a couple of decent knives while you are there snd send them home to yourself when it’s time to go? Those look miserable 😩

Cooking abroad can be great fun, especially when you experience new ingredients. But yeah I see with some of the base stuff (salt & pepper) it can be different to what you work with at home. Anyway, seems like you did a good job of this recipe with new stuff and different tools, good job!

@@recipe30 dedicated one drawer in my kitchen to store Japanese knives and label that drawer with sticker that says SHARP KNIVES MATTER ... because it does! 😆 (Eventhough I got 3 stitches on my left index finger the first time I used a japanese knife 😅)

Yes the chicken variety here is amazing, some taste more like game, amazing flavour, no comparison to Aussie chickens.
