This is a much needed motivation, thanks Tyler! After almost only doing training basics for the past months I want to start on personal projects again! My goal is to improve and refine my project workflow, particularly the planning, researching and documenting stages. My project is set in post apocalyptic Nordic area, lots of snow and darkness and hopefully I'll manage to create some unconventional characters and environments. Also adding 3D to my workflow, I have Maya and Unreal engine in my toolset but want to add Blender, as it is free. Another thing I'll be doing in 2021 is planning time for Tyler tutorials again 👍

I'm just glad I found someone who works like I do. VR to Blender, Blender to Wacom. Every time people ask about my workflow I confuse them. "So you're a 3d modeler..." No. Yes.. but no.

You've really been super helpful for me this past few weeks. Thanks for the pointers Tyler! In my experience, I think working on personal projects is not only good for your portfolio, but it's been a great experience to see your work and skills develop. I've been working on the illustrations for a tarot deck since the first lockdown started and I can see my skills have evolved just by working on the artwork.

I have a ton of projects i want to do but little time between commissions. I'm trying to keep a trello for singular images i want to do and some projects. For projects i want to tap on 2021 are designing the world of a dog-pokemon game. Maybe doing a comic based on a game. And putting form to some of my characters stories/world.

Depends on the type of portfolio you want. Needs your best work. Do you need to decide what type of work that it is, what themes are in and what your strength is

It’s so confusing when KZfaqrs have videos like “Create this awesome thing!” And it’s just tips, not a breakdown of what it needs to look like or their own stuff. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ Please, I just wanna know what the heck Character Art and Concept Art portfolios ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE! ArtStation doesn’t make it any easier because the ones recommended go Against what people are usually saying Not to do. Artists need examples and definitely a walkthrough because we need direction, like any other job.
