Thank you for your comment. Although I understand using adjustment layers and layer masks is better practise, I don’t belive its necessarily imperative, especially on a simple task such as this. Tho, your point is noted, when I create tuts like it in future, I will be using adjustment layers. Thank you.

@TeamForceCentral Hi, I tried to find the source online for the original image, but could not find it, so I have uploaded it myself and put the link in the description. Hope that helps.

@fookthetoothfairy you could consider creating a duplicate layer... In the tutorial I tweaked the levels to get the desired effect. Sometimes you cannot get the desired effect on one layer, for example the face might be perfect but then that leaves the hair to dark, or too light. So in the tutorial I duplicated the layer to have two instances where I tweaked the levels. This meant I could treat each layer separately, then simply delete to reveal the layer with the effect I was happy with. :)

Hello from Maryland, Mr. TastyTuts. Thanks very very much for putting this together. This is a terrific presentation. I combed through many other Warhol/screen print videos and various techniques via PhotoShop and found this to be the best by far. I really appreciate your time and effort in sharing this.

Awesome tutorial! Andy Worhol is also one of Gaga's biggest inspirations when she created her 'Lady Gaga' image plus, her new album is called ARTPOP (an Artistic Revolution Through the Potential Of Pop) and plays on the idea of Pop Art and that anything in pop culture can be turned into art.

First of all: Perfect tutorial! Good demo material - excellent result - professionally explained. I watched many other tutorials resulting in "wanna-be"-Warholish trash. This one leads you right to the point - I was able to create a fantastic Warhol Style Pop-Art picture 50x50cm that exceeded all what I had expected to be ever able to create myself in reasonable time. Thanks a lot! To some critical comments below: Certainly I used Masks, adjustment Layers for the Levels, adjustment Layers for the hue - separate for each color layer - to have maximum control over the resulting colored composition. I user groups and many more. And i am absolutely sure, the author also knows all these techniques - probably much better than I do myself! BUT: This all is not subject of the tutorial! In my opinion, one part of the excellent Job the author did was to NOT use all this techniques in the tutorial because this makes it unnecessarily complicated and obscures the view to the vital parts of the process to create a realistic and professional Warhol-Style Pop-Art picture! If you can do it right at the first try, applying the level for example to the original picture is fine (as shown in teh tutorial). I HAVE to use an adjustment layer since I do not get it right the first time and have to adjust and adapt later. My final words: Thank you a lot for the tutorial - you did a great job sharing your skill with the rest of the world!

Lovely, as I have a major project of designing some Pop Art panels for an upcoming event. I have done this before, but this was a great refresher. I would have liked to see one done with someone with dark hair however, as the effect with dark hair is not quite as intense or cool looking, and I would have liked to see your take on that. Thank you.

The problem is, when using levels to adjust the face, often it has the undesired effect to the hair. What you need to do is separate the hair from the face. So you want to duplicate the face layer, and remove the face [Mask away] from one and the hair from the other. Then with your single hair layer, you can tweak the levels, and create the high contrast onto of your colour layer. That has worked for me with dark hair instances.

Just a recommendation instead of using new layers for each color use a solid color adjustment layer and that way you can easily change the color after. Also I would recommend using layer mask as they are easier to use, nevertheless great tutorial!

i COMPLETELY agree with you...its always better to use a non-destructive approach. He also shouldve attempted to use the curves adjustment layer. It wouldve really worked better for controlling the balance of black and white in the desaturated image instead of doing it in portions with the levels adjustment layer.
