This is how to create interval workouts using the Garmin Connect App for your Garmin Forerunner 245 Watch.
Compatible devices: Forerunner 245, 245 Music, 45, 645 and Fenix 6
Note: other devices will still be able to create interval workouts using the Garmin Connect App. However, the method of accessing the workout on the watch is slightly different. For most other watches, you would enter the 'Run' / Menu / 'Training' / 'My Workouts' and then start your particular workout from there. Good luck!
Other Information:
- Lap Button: is the bottom right
- In the video an iPhone 8 was used, this shouldn't impact your ability to create workouts on the app!

How does the watch notify you of intervals? So if you want to run for 2 minutes and walk for 30 sec, how does the watch tell you to start and stop each interval? Also, does the app record and display starts by interval?
@ThePhysioBros
@ThePhysioBros 11 ай бұрын
Hi Paul! When you’ve got around 5 secs left in each interval it’ll do 5 smaller beeps to count you down. At commencement of the next interval it’ll do a large beep and vibrate. A summary is provided in Garmin app of all the splits (for example how far you ran in each 2 min block).

Really appreciate this video! Does the watch provide audio cues after each interval without you needing to look at your watch? If so, does come through headphones over any music you might be playing? This is what I'm looking for.

Do you know how incredibly helpful this was? I've been staring at my Forerunner 55 in terror for two weeks, flummoxed as to how to make it do an interval workout with me...But now I've got my 1200s programmed in! Quick question, if you'll permit me: When I go out and run my 4x1200s, will the watch automatically track and record my times for each repeat so that I don't have to look down at my watch and do the fast math to figure out how long each one took? If you're still answering Qs for this vid, I'd appreciate any insights! Thank you in advance!
@ThePhysioBros
@ThePhysioBros Жыл бұрын
Hi Kim! Yep, the watch automatically tracks your times. It’ll give you a timing for each interval when you finish it (real time feedback) and you can go into the app afterwards for a more detailed breakdown of splits! Glad we could be of help!

Great video. I may have missed this; what is the maximum number of repeats? My ancient forerunnner lasted thru out a marathon (& I am slow runner). I changed over to Fitbit and it had quite limited number of repeats. And now, Apple decided to not and will not program for interval/repeats. Thank you! (I use the 4" run/1" walk and it's so much better for my knees). Thanks again.

Great video thanks, ive just moved from Apple to Garmin so excuse me if its a repeat question. I'm trying to add a Fartlek, with time and intensity goals, I.E. run for 3 minutes at 5:00-5:20 per KM, followed by a 1:00 recovery, run 2 minutes at 4:30-4:50 per KM followed by recovery Etc. When i press save, it deletes the intensity part and transfers to my watch without the pace goals. Is this a software fault?
@ThePhysioBros
@ThePhysioBros Жыл бұрын
I just tested your plan and it worked for me?! I’m assuming you’ve done this but the run segment should have duration type as ‘time’, duration as 3 mins and then intensity target set on ‘pace’ with the speeds above? Then add steps and repeat for your second pace goals. I’d suggest updating your watch and phone software in case it’s glitching.

I tried your set of instructions to create a custom workout. In my case it was exclusively strength training. As soon as tried to save the workout which included a Warmup, Dumbbell Floor Press (3 Rounds/Sets - 8 Reps) Recover (1.5 minutes between each Set) and a Cool Down; I got the following error message “Please select an exercise for each step”. I have no idea how to select an exercise in the one and only Step in my abbreviate workout. I have 5 other exercises I wanted to include with similar number of sets/rounds and repetitions but it doesn’t even work for a single exercise. Any idea(s)?

Thank you for the video. I learned a few things, but I still can't solve my problem. I'm one of these meditation types and the only thing I want is to set up an interval timer with three vibrations and a buzz. So for example, I want it to vibrate once every 15 minutes for 45 minutes. And then at the 45-minute mark, I want it to buzz or ring. That's all. So far, the best I can do is to have a noisy alarm go off every 15 minutes, and then at the end of 45 minutes have three noisy alarms go off in a row. That's not so comforting. There must be a way to have the watch do what I would like . . . I just can't figure out what it is. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Hi there - I’ve had a look and sadly I haven’t found a solution for you! You can definitely make a workout based off time slots but I don’t think there’s a way to customise the sound of the alerts that you get for the intervals. Hope you can find a solution!

I hate that you need to build the workout ahead of time. I am not training for anything, so I do not have a structured schedule. I may show up at the track and just want to do 300M repeats or I may be feeling really good and do a ladder of 2x600 2x400 2x200 2x100 1x800. It seems to me I should be able to hit the track button run, then hit a button again for recovery time to click, and then hit the track button again for lap #2. This is way over thought process... good video but disappointed in Garmin's lack of flexibility

What you described would take about 5mins to program on the Garmin app and send to the watch. It’s super quick and easy once you are familiar with the Garmin app. You’ll also have a historical record of saved workouts, so you can select to do them again in the future.

@Reddogj123
@Reddogj123 Ай бұрын
@@bernardcernea6792 I understand, it may be a bad idea for you, but not necessarily for me. My plans change all the time for things out of my control. Sometimes it's weather-driven, some times it's driven, some times it life driven, and honestly some times its motivation driven. I also have no real running goals. Tell me I want to do hill repeats. I do not know the length of the hill, so I can't set it to a distance. I don't know how long it will take me, so I can't run for 1 minute and stop ( I am not doing Pacer). I want to be able to to start at the bottom run to the top, stop the watch or hit the lap, and then have a recovery timer for 3 minutes in between. which I will start again at the bottom and repeat, I may do it 6 or 8 times depending on how I feel. How do I do that?
@fenix.357
@fenix.357 29 күн бұрын
@@Reddogj123Perhaps you will do it just like me right on the watch. 1. Press 'Start' and you see 'Run'. 2. Long press the middle left button and short press the lower left button. 3. Press 'Start' and then press the lower left button again. You will see 'Intervals'. 4. Press the lower left button again. And of course, now you will be able to build up a flexible interval training quickly. The only thing you need to know when performing the workout is, that pressing the lap button in the bottom right corner ends your warm-up phase, and the workout starts. At the latest, the third time you are doing it right.
