In this video, I will show you how to create detailed bottle models using trickery called displacement maps. This is a great way to speed up your workflow and spend more time creating rather than modelling.
Displacement maps work on the colour value. So if we add a displacement map with a height of 5, a value of 1 (white) will be the max height. If a value of 0 (black), then there will be no displacement.
We can create all these details within photoshop. This makes it easy to update and change if the clients come back with alterations.

Nice work. I just want to add that displacement from shader wont create caustics. You will have to use Displace modifier after subd with the same texture and set it to UV. Edit: You can additionally adjust it with weight painting.

@@sebastianodibusti a mask is just a black and white... well, mask. Literally like the mask in photoshop. So, you could just put your label into whatever picture editing software you use, black out the label, and have/add a completely white background. Inside blender, just multiply the created mask with the displacement/height map, and the result is that the black area will basically be "cut out" of the displacement map, while everything white in the mask will just stay unchanged. Reason for that: blender reads black as "0" and white as "1", with every grey between as some fraction in between (like, 50% grey is read as 0.5). If you multiply greyscale "pictures" together in blender, then it basically does a multiplication for every pixel . Multiply anything by 1 and it stays the same, multiply anything by zero, and you get zero - thus you can use binary black and white pictures basically as a "cutout"... a mask. If that is too technical: just imagine the black and white mask as a black and transparent "sheet" you "lay over" the displacement map: wherever you put it, you'll only see the unobstructed, transparent parts... and so does blender, basically. And yes, you can also use full greyscale, not just black and white, and multiply that together... and such things do come in handy when making some parametric materials, but that is not really of concern when it comes to basic masks. Fun bonus: since there is a "separate RGB" node, you can pack three greyscale maps in one picture... just use each of the greyscale maps for one channel - one "redscale", one "greenscale", and one "bluescale", so to speak. Result: a possibly slightly psychedelic picture that can be read as three separate textures (or possibly 4 if you also make use of the alpha channel) Tho, that is more useful for game assets, rather than illustrative renders, and is generally called channel packing.

Also it works with two waves texture mixed up to displacement. But this method would be easier with more complicated texture

Octane render can generate great smooth displacement, withot subdivs and tons of geometry. Is there the feautere in cycles?

@@Interactiv Actually there is! You can use adaptive subdivision (experimental, subsurf has to be the last modifier). This will automatically generate more detail/subdivs in the render without really subdividing the mesh!

My displacement is bad I did it with 3240x3240px why is it?

It may just be the number of subdivisions. If you up the render subdivisions to 3, this should help.

lol but this is a greyscale bitmap hah 2:40 +tip: you could create this simple pattern which took you about 10 mins, fiddling with styles and duplicating layers in Photoshop, in less than a minute in illustrator's pattern maker :)

Why is your Blender rendering so fast? Even though we are both on a Mac system。 My configuration is M1 Max with 32 threads, but the speed seems to be only one-tenth of yours

I have the same configuration. Lots of things can affect the rendering speed. Make sure you have the Metal GPU selected without the CPU in Preferences? Also, the option is set to GPU Compute in cycles. Also, you may have a heavier scene with more materials and textures or higher poly meshes.

@@Interactiv You're right, I checked the preference settings and selected Metal GPU while unchecking CPU, and set the option to GPU Compute in Cycles. The rendering speed has improved significantly. Thank you so much!
