I love how pan pastels work on PastelMat. The soft tools also work well for knocking down an unwanted hard edge formed with a pastel stick or pastel pencil. In my last piece, I used them to pick up color from sticks that were too fat to get into tight spaces. I am waiting impatiently for the weather here in Minnesota to warm up enough for me to get back into the studio.

I agree with you because a lot of the viewers may not realize that some of that sandpaper can be a little rough on the hands.Depending what grit is being used.And I am glad that you mentioned pastel mat. I tried the clay pastel board.It was nice but I think it was more in line for either oil pastels or possibly gouache paint.Anyway the only canvas that I haven’t used is Clairfontaine pastel mat and that is next.Then I can say that I have tried everything but gouache and oil painting.Thank you for sharing and I may become a patron of yours but I have a lot going on at the moment. I feel if I handle it this way and put everything else aside I will be more inclined to give you 100 percent of your lessons.Thank you Mrs.Jenkins.And thank you so much for your time.

I actually cover the entire surface of my paper with the Pan Pastel Colorless Blender before putting down anything else, and it really helps the pans move so easily, especially on sanded papers.

Susan I just discovered you recently and I am dazzled by your flower fields! I can’t find an answer to a question. I always find with working on an easel that my pastel dust falls and contaminates other colors. I’m thinking about working flat. Nobody ever talks about this.
@monetcafe
@monetcafe 3 ай бұрын
I'm so happy you found my channel Kimberly! I know what you're talking about with the pastel dust, falling down and contaminating the other colors, I saw some thing from another artist that was literally an aha moment for me. Most easels allow for you to adjust the angle of it by leaning it back or forward. If you angle your easel, slightly forward, the Pastels will fall down into your dust tray or pastel catcher and not onto your painting. I hope that is helpful. Also, I do work flat sometimes, but I don't recommend it because of the pastel dust. Our own breath can literally stir up the dust and caused us to breathe it while we're painting. This isn't such a big deal if you are working with Pastels, that aren't so soft, like Rembrandts. You could also use a HEPA fan next to you while you paint that helps with the dust. Hope that helps sweetie!
