I got a Blaliden for displaying my 40K models and this video was super helpful in my quest for lighting it. And the dustproofing with felt is brilliant! Quick questions: do you think it would have been easier to install the lighting as you were assembling it or is after the fact just as easy? And is it possible to add more shelves than come with the unit? Thanks!

Lights definitely after. Shelving, we will have to see if someone makes more support for it and glass because without more support, you can put more shelves. You'd also have to figure out where to get more glass shelves as well.

As long as this shelf doesn't have the same random exploding glass issue as the Detolf, I'm all for the new model. Specifically never gotten a Detolf for that issue alone.

I've always wondered about the detolf exploding shelf or doors. I have 2 and have used them for a little over 2 years now. I may have 3lbs of items on each shelf so I'm curious if the shattering shelf is weight related.

@@furyofgungnir It can be improper installation (overtightening screws at the top), temperature changes (warm/cold too quickly), defective glass (some people's empty Detolfs exploded or exploded during installation by just holding the glass) so basically poor quality control by their workers at Ikea, and as for weight related issues, I haven't seen a shelf explode, it's always the sides that go out causing a huge mess. I could be wrong about that of course. After all these mods installations, Moducase is just a bit more expensive from my calculations, but it's permanent and won't break, 99.99% dust free and all. It does require acrylic cleaner once a month though to keep static away. I'm still thinking about which way to go.

It's a shame that you can't get the 1:18 on the stand in. I'm on the outlook for a good sturdy display cabinet for my living room. I already have three of the IKEA Detolf units in my model room and I find them flimsy. They are definitely not child proof.

I prefer the new BLALIDEN by a large margin...but it really depends on what you want to display as size/space is the biggest factor. The bad reviews I think are in large part because it has been dubbed the replacement for DETOLF instead of being reviewed as a stand alone. PROS - Glass is clearer/thinner and less likely to explode (DETOLF glass has a greenish tint) - Framed design is a better presentation imo - Easier to assemble - Can hide lighting cables easier - Weighs a lot less CONS - Considerably less shelf space - A little wobbly - Frame blocks displays from certain angles - Door goes to the bottom so if on carpet door will get caught (Need a riser) - Thinner shelves, 1lb less weight capacity Nice concise video, appreciate the run down and tips.

I'm still contemplating which one to buy. Another CON and I think only for the white version are the screws and black empty screw holes showing in the back behind the figures in each shelf. Looks very unprofessional, cheap, and unfinished. It really distracts my eyes. The black version hides it better, but white looks more elegant I think. It's shown in the video too, at the end, in the finished product section of the video. They can be covered but it's extra material, extra labor, and extra cost. Looking at other options too, like Billy, Rudsta and the permanent solution Moducase.

@@Figurevideoswatching-xk1yk I almost went with Rudsta as it offers a little more space, has built in risers, and the 4th space being open allows for a little creativity. Also really like the black backing. Ultimately it came down to cost.

Its not a good idea if you are putting the model out of the box. I got one of these and no matter what its getting in dust.

Actually pretty easy to make them damn near dust proof.
