I've learnt more about playing the blues in this last ten minutes than in all the years I have been playing saxophone. Well done, Scott - you're a star!

1. two bar phrases. question-answer phrasing 2. play with the rhythm - not just 8th notes 3. make some notes more important than others 4. easier to come up with rhythms with smaller set of notes (2-4 notes?) 5. embellishments - turns, falls, growls, grace notes etc

Thanks Scott. I have been playing for only 6 months now and I have a great teacher. At this time he is teaching me the major scales and sight reading. I am hoping in a year or so maybe I can start playing some blues. You sound great. Thanks again. You are the best.

Excellent vidéo that comes at the perfect time! When you think of practicing playing two measure phrases, do you count the beats in your head while playing or do you play memorized sets of rhythms which you know correspond to two measure phrases? I am still at the stage of insuring I know where I am in a form! Thanks for your very motivating videos.
@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Herve! In the begining, put on a metronome app that accents beat one (tonal energy tuner is great) that way you can visually see and hear it. After you've practiced that way a little bit, it will become very familiar and you won't have to count anymore, you'll just start to feel it.

@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don't know what my Syos is modeled after. They brought me 20 to try when I was in Paris, and I put this one on, and never took it off! It's got a huge sound but is really easy to play. Here's my discount code if you end up getting one: SCOTTXSYOS

Hi Scott, ran across your videos while looking for sax info and had to binge watch a bunch of them. I am super impressed with how well you break information down and make concepts easily understandable. I have just started playing the sax (used to play the clarinet poorly in high school a long time ago) and I'm wondering if joining your school would be good for a pretty raw beginner. By the way, you look a lot better and more professional without the beanie! ;-)
@ScottPaddock
@ScottPaddock 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the school would be perfect for you! I start off with a beginner section, which can also be used as a review, and then work into teaching songs and technique stuff. The school is set up exactly how I teach private lessons.
