Thanks for the tutorial! You mentioned making a game, can I ask for some details?

So I originally had a segment at the end of this video and my main channel video talking about a fangame I'm developing, and asking for people to make their own cards with this tutorial so I could potentially use them, but the submissions I was getting were more trouble than they were worth, so I decided to cut those segments out and do all the art myself, which is for the best. As for the game though, think Pokemon TCG + Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

@@deltaseekerdx I just came across your channel and the project seems really cool, if you need any help art wise I'm a fairly experienced pixel artist and could lend a hand.

This is a great technique! I’ve been making pixel art for years and years but never would have thought of using an approach like this. I even learned more about Aseprite than I knew thanks to this video. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your game!

Thanks for this video. I am planning on making Pokemon TCG GBC artwork sprites out of Perler beads. I also want to make some using modern card art, but that requires that I transform some manually into the old GBC pixel style. I am also a non-artist, so this'll help a lot.

I've never even considered this, but I'm fascinated by how well it turned out! I need to try this!

I always loved the tcg sprites and wanted to make some of my own for as long as I've been learning aseprite. I would've made a ridiculous amount of these if I found this video early on and I think it would've helped me learn faster than everything else I did. Amazing videos

This is really cool! Neat to see somebody covering pixel art in a way that adapts to other artstyles, that's actually sorta rare to find

I love this! I've been cross stitching the original pokemon tcg card sprites - it's a big project, but they look GORGEOUS. It's occurred to me one day I might run out of sprites to do and have to make my own... Can't wait to try some of these techniques!

This is amazing. Even as an actual artist if I were to tackle this I'd do it in a more rudimentary way. I could give this a try honestly!

Great job! Love to see people studying sprite styles from older games! It's also fascinating to see how technical your process is with all the switching between programs, use of color modes, etc. :D

Interesting to hear you're making these for a game. What are you working on? I've been making a lot of cards like this myself for a sidegame in my Johto remake. Something like Gwent.

After watching your video the other day about the Art used for the cards in the gameboy TCG games I had thought about doing an illustration in this style myself, with that in mind you can imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when this video popped up in my KZfaq recommendations today! All in all, I'd say this is a really good tutorial, while I haven't tried making any sprites like this myself yet the steps are easy to follow. Also, while I've heard of it, I've never seen Asesprite in action before but now that I've seen it and know you can use full sized images as a background layer I think I might use it for future sprite related projects. My only criticism is your method for choosing colors. I'm not a technical expert on what colors the Gameboy Color can & can't display myself, but when emulating the style of GBC & NES games in the past I've built my color palettes using sprites from various games as reference and sampling my colors off of them, ensuring that the colors I'm using can actually be displayed on the console I'm imitating. Just for that extra bit of authenticity. If you're looking for a specific color but can't find sprites or games that us it Wikipedia has a page dedicated to listing the possible colors a specific console can display. I've found NES & GBC have very similar color limitations so I usually use their color palettes interchangeably myself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_video_game_console_palettes#Nintendo That aside though, this was a very enlightening tutorial and should I do any sprites in the style of the Pokemon TCG games in the future I'm definitely going to come back to this for reference. :) Keep up the great work!

Thanks! You can get Aseprite for free if you build from source, btw! On your color criticism - The GBC has 32,768 possible colors like the Wiki article says, which in practice is basically every color. Only a slight conversion is needed for full-color images, unlike the NES, which has a distinct and very limiting 56-color palette artists must work around.

Hey cool to see. I'm also working on a pokemon tcg fan game. I was going to make the art like this but after doing one I frankly don't have the patience for it. Though it seems other people are also making pokemon tcg fan games. Is there a discord for it that you know about?
