I've personally installed and tested a TON of free WordPress themes since I first started and these 5 are the BEST of the BEST for 2019! I rated these themes based on ease of use, clean design, and customization to help you select the one that will most fit your needs! However, I highly recommend going with a paid theme if you want to get serious with your website. You have A LOT more customization options and preset options to help you design some insane stuff. Great selection thanks! I miss one rating that I believe should also be added to those three, it's "mobile functionality". How would you rate these themes when viewed on mobile devices? It's the mobile-first era, huge amount of visits come from phones and tablets but mainly phones. It would be really great if you added the mobile rating.

I found this video after looking at your beginner tutorial. I came because the free version of Hestia locks you out of being able to edit much of the sample text labels, so I am exploring other options. I see the free version of Hestia being recommended again, and that has me wondering if there are also similar limitations in some of the other free themes you are recommending. I am pretty slow at this and I don’t want to spend a lot of time with another theme only to find that it isn’t fully functional either.

Could you also touch base on whether these are mobile friendly? A lot of "free" themes require upgrading to the "Pro" version just to be mobile friendly... Which is kind of pointless as these days you have to be mobile friendly.

Dale thank you deeply for another fabulous video. So helpful to a novice like myself, you are a true guru. All of your tutorials are outstanding, simple to follow and the most in depth. This video was published in 2018, can I ask in your opinion is hestia still number 1 in 2020 for a free theme? As an artist I'm trying to pick a theme but getting confused with all the themes out there. Was thinking of Hestia, Enfold or Divi? Look forward to your reply. Regards, Rahul.

Thanks for this! Hestia looks like the theme best for my client. I tried out shapely paused the video and found out this isn’t going to work. I need more options. Anything with elementor might be a little too much for my client to use after I’m done. So Hestia might be the way to good. You saved the best for last. October 2019 best free themes: Neve and Astra. Things are changing rapidly and especially the free themes are becoming so good nowadays. I suggest you to try Neve and/or Astra, excellent themes. OceanWP and GeneratePress are also very good but a little bit behind I think.

Mate, you need to look at Zakra. I've tried Ocean WP and Hestia. They're rubbish compared to Zakra. It's easy to use and has great customisation. It's way ahead of your top 2. Check it out. If you don't like it I'd love to hear why. Great theme with lots of cool templates to boot. Or just roll your own. I think it's the customisation options that make it so good. I've yet to find a better one. Anyone else?

Helpful review, thanks. You say for some themes that you can't change button colors or fonts. How can that be, don't you have access to the CSS files? or do you mean can't change them through the easy interface without going into CSS?

Ofc you can change the colors of mesmerize. Inspect the code in chrome, check the id/class of the button and add custom css to that class in wordpress.

Thanks for the great video. I run a few different personal development courses, which I'd like to promote and sell tickets for. I also need to have a paid members facility/area, where members will have access to certain content/videos. I've played around a little with OceanWP/Elementor, so was thinking of integrating with Hubspot. For members and courses I was thinking "WP Courseware" and "Wish List Member" - what do you think of the combo, plus what should I use for ticket sales?

Omg. love puppies. I would say Ocean WP will be the best bet, and then spend a little time playing with Elementor Page Builder to create the look of your website.

Tried Hestia and Oceans based on your videos. Hestia has very poor help documentation and limited features when free like you cannot add background to Testimonial and the contact forms is hard to customize. I lost the nav bar on my front page and could never get it back. Oceans is ok but found the ease of use not too high despite your video since the UI has changed since you made the video. I completed my digital portfolio but was not completely satisfied but it is free and your video was very helpful for a beginner.
