Hi Jerome! Perfect timing for this video, ive been rooting a dozen or so PA cuttings which I plan to plant into a regrowth forest planting with really tight growth. I love the far left crooked tree, it makes a great contrast to the other trees in the planting!

wow awesome job Jerome. I love the way you styled this portulacaria forest.. I have several tiny rooted cuttings of portulacaria afra (about 6 months old).. what would you typically recommend? Do you let them grow bigger first before putting them into a forest setting or just plant them together to form a forest?
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply 2 жыл бұрын
I would plant them together already! The more time they have to grow, the better the root spread will look.

After how long would you generally get rid of the ground wires holding the tree's base, and how would they be removed? I guess it depends on individual species growth to prevent the wire cutting in right?

@WeareTheBonsaiSupply

Hey Ricardo, wait until the wire starts to dig into the branches and then remove them. Thinner wire bites in first.

Are the roots that thick or did you leave remaining root ball filled with the existing medium for health reasons during the forest build?
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel, I always try to leave a bit of the original soil when I repot a bonsai. In the next potting I will remove the remainder of the original soil.I probably left 10% of the original soil on these trees.

TIP for everybody. Don't waste all that time picking and racking the root ball. Just grab it by the trunk and smash it against a rock or the ground. Shake off the soil maybe a little rake through and done. Now trim roots.

I make a comment from Japan. I'm not too good at English, so I make a comment in Japanese. 根を切って植え替えをした場合は樹をもっと透かさないとだめです。根を切ったら上も切るそうしないと樹が傷みます。
