Man, this would be so good for those maps with multiple levels and an area where the players can in theory see more than one level (Atriums, churches, libraries, etc). Your channel is heavily making me consider changing my plus to a pro subscription.

This is a great idea in concept! however, even if we assume players play without voice chat and only communicate via text, it would still take only a minute or so to realize what is happening. However, if you just want to add a cool effect for the player, and they will honestly roleplay the scenario - then that's awesome way to do it.

This could also be handy for people with true sight or something that would allow them to see the world/creature(s) as it truly is, but not tell the players they are all on a different maps. Someone can see the festering evil but no one else can and they have to convince the rest of the party of what they see.
@NickOlivo

I love that idea!

Wow that little nugget at the end with splitting the party over different maps was golden. Thanks. As a bit of CC I would consider having the camera pointing a little lower so you are not completely center frame. Maybe 2/3rds of the way up. Anyway. Keep up the cracking work.

Oh sweeet! I've got them lined up to try and free a manor house from a demonic curse, and the big bad is a trickster/double dealer... on top of everything else I've got in store for them this will make them soil themselves. In fact sod it! I'm pushing that quest back a week or two so that I can take full advantage of the potential this has to offer... I can see a "split party questing on two planes of existence at the same time, coordinating clues." scenario coming from this. This is going to be a lot of fun!

@@NickOlivo Oh Nick... we finally got there! I ultimately bit the bullet and also mixed this with the Ouija Mod (starting to get used to calling them Mods...), and once the party had stopped kicking the living daylights out of each other and figured out what was going on, they found a room in the House. This room had a circle of letters drawn in blood on the Nightmare level, and the normal level had the top half of a human corpse dragging itself around the room. The guys on the "normal" level had to follow the torso as it crawled across the floor, while the guys on the "Nightmare" level had to shout out the letters. Because both levels had demonic undead that existed in both realms at the same time and could attack either group, EVERY fight became an absolute blood bath of "Friendly Fire"... as the party members were replaced on the "other" level with images of those monsters. It took some effort to make a whole bunch of unique monsters to duplicate across the two levels for Hit Points etc, but DAMN it was worth it. The players walked away undecided as to whether they wanted to hunt me down and kill me, or buy me a bottle of champagne. I've heard ALL the arguments from people saying "You can never do on a VTT all the cool stuff that you can at a real table." Well... guess what?

That's a cool effect. I did something similar in CoC, sending one investigator to a nightmare version of the map I sent all the other investigators too. However I didn't have Twins so I had to keep moving the fake tokens to keep up the illusion on the nightmare map. It worked superbly and I love your version

I've discovered another way this script can be awesome... Multi level rooms. Have the tokens on a balcony able to see down into the room below and interact with each other. (By interact I mean shoot and throw spells at each other!)

Very cool, Nick. Does the link goes past layers too? Can I link a token on the token layer of one map to a token on the DM layer on another map?
@NickOlivo
@NickOlivo Жыл бұрын
Neat question - I wasn't sure so I had to try that out. The twins have to be on the same layer. So you can have a token on the GM layer on one map and twin it to another token on the GM layer of a different map, and that works fine. If you move one of the tokens to the Objects layer, its twin moves to the object layer as well.

Today's Date: 01-17-2024 WIth Roll20's new Page Folders, I find that "twinning" like this becomes problematic. Moving individuals to different maps isn't as smooth as before and the "Nightmare Scenario" setup becomes slow and awkward - sometimes breaking and requiring a sandbox restart. Have you experience anything like this? If so, is there a fix, or is the script now broken beyond repair?

I wish I had known about this mod when I used a map where players had to defend the position on a bridge with a tower. I had the party divided, some defending the bridge at ground level, while others inside the tower were shooting with their bows. I made two maps where one was the outside view of the tower and the other the inside view. I divided the players conveniently on each map. Having to move all the tokens every turn on one and the other map was simply tedious 😖

Love this idea. Do you think there is a way to use this concept to correct some of the problems with Wildshaping, by creating a Twin token for the wildshape on a different map (probably blank so no movement interference). Twin them, set the property switchc, then grab both tokens and switcch maps? When the Wildshape is done, just switch them back. Doable? Let us know.
@NickOlivo
@NickOlivo Жыл бұрын
It might, but honestly, I think that would be more trouble than it's worth. You'd probably be better off just having the animal form tokens on the GM layer and then showing/hiding them when the player decided to wildshape, until whatever weirdness that's going on with the token's bars gets addressed.

Awesome... can you do it on the same map? I'm thinking about the module you reviewed a while back... Drow Hard?
@NickOlivo
@NickOlivo Жыл бұрын
Hi Neil - technically you can, but what winds up happening is the twinned token moves to the exact same place as the original (i.e., they stack atop one another) so it wouldn’t work well for Drow Hard.
