Nice. If the two small gears had different ratio, this could be used as a simple automated transmission!

Cool! You could keep the gears from slipping even when the length changes by having one set of gears right next to each other and spacing the other set with half bushings
@Nico71Fr
@Nico71Fr 2 жыл бұрын
Yes good idea to double the gearing, it will also be better to handle more torque :)

using a pair of 12t bevel gears instead of the 8t gears would be better imo as it cuts right to the heart of the issue by getting rid of the gap entirely. you could also match it the 36t bevel in place of the 40t gear if getting the right spacing was an issue as the 36t + 12t will fit in the same spacing you already have

Sounds like a way to engage a transmission gearbox change with the extension feature of it, great video by the way!

Indeed, good idea to test with a gearbox on a heavy vehicle to limit the fits and starts.

Genius idea 😍 .. thank you for this video But what are the real life applications of this mechanism?
@Nico71Fr
@Nico71Fr 2 жыл бұрын
It is the same application as real, limit the fits and starts due to the torque, for instance on drivetrain with heavy vehicle or machine.

Very clever! Man LEGO definitely delivers on elements and parts some of there elements are twisted!

Thanks ! I was a try but people seems to like it, I have tons of some concept that I want to show but can not make a creation with it, so it seems to be the good format 👍

I just noticed you could maybe use this mechanism but get longer ones and a longer Axel and make it into an automatic transmission so when underload because it shrinks when it is under load and go down together if you turn into a transmission therefore making it automatic

6 soft axles seem like it works. but maybe you can find a geometry where those soft axles will slide in and out so the gear would not have to... but the idea is promising indeed

Cool! There can be a motor-shifted transmission between main motor and torque damper, but you can change the gears while the car is rolling! Geniusly! P.s. English isn't my mother tongue, there may be some mistakes

Why not make it so that the motorized axle is longer, and protrudes into the dampener, but can slide. This way, the geared/wheel side can remain fixed in place, while the motorized axle is long enough to allow the dampner to slide.
@Nico71Fr
@Nico71Fr Жыл бұрын
It could indeed be a solution but the problem is that there is not part that can fit the soft axle and have a slidding axle. But I could put a other device after the torque damper to transmit the power with slidding mechanism.

That is just ingenious! One question left: if you would not use a 0 to 1 power source, would this problem still appear
@Nico71Fr
@Nico71Fr 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks ! Yes, having a proportional remote can help, but on heavy vehicle, it is not always easy because the weight and play create fits and starts which can be reduce with a torque damper.

Could you do a build demonstrating something that would use a dampening thing like this?

You should have used bevel gears, they are wider and would not slip

is this kinda like a torque converter
@Nico71Fr
@Nico71Fr Жыл бұрын
Not a torque converter as it doesn't convert any energy into an other, but more a torque dampers, which correct the acycling.

@Nico71Fr

@@Nico71Fr ah, I see. actually now that you mention it I can see how it would help in a unimog model that I have made that has the jerky start/stop issue.
