Collect The Signals, Then The Sales
It’s common sense to think “I have a business, I should sell as much of my product to as many people as I can”. So why do companies, like Rolex or Ferrari, make so much money by limiting the amount of product that they sell?
Why would anyone throw up road blocks in front of their own potential customers? And why is creating tension in the supply and demand equation a way to get people to want to buy from you?
Daniel Priestley returns to talk with Chris about his concept of being “Oversubscribed”. Daniel asserts that many marketers have forgotten the number one rule of marketing - An imbalance in supply and demand sets both the price and the profit of a product. An “oversubscribed” business, then, is simply one that has limited or constrained supply, and there are more people that want that supply than is available. Daniel argues that you can create this tension between supply and demand by creating an official capacity, make sure people know what it is, and understand that it’s in hot demand. But that’s just simple supply and demand, right? Well, yes, but Daniel is going to take you through some of his methods for artificially creating the tension between supply and demand, so that you can get your business to the point of being oversubscribed. He’ll discuss the three ingredients you need to get people to buy, why “signal collecting” is so important, and the five phases of a bullet proof campaign.

I asked my daughter (10 years old) to show me the game she was playing on her IPad. To my surprise she's a master and getting oversubscribed. She was leading this elite horse rider group in a horse game. She had set requirements and rules. She had publicly displayed maximum capacity of members. I was so impressed, then I asked her how she got her group full. She replied that she goes in the main area where everyone rides horses and she dm's everyone about her group. But that's not all. Turns out her members are so loyal for having been picked that they advertise with her voluntarily in the main area. She rallies her team and they all dm people. It blew my mind. Here I was as a business coach thinking I need to teach my daughter the skills. Ha! I just said "good work, this is exactly what dad does." and got back to work.

When I studied a master degree in neuroscience we did an experiment about memory. The results are if you need to study something for an exam is better to study it in different location rather only in one (as your desktop or library). For example people who study one day in a library, another they in a coffee shop, another day in a park are more likely to remember more things and perform better. And you only need to do is change the context. Thank you for the conversation. So much value.

This video talks about the neuroscience behind building relationships and creating demand. The speaker, Chris Ducker, discusses the concept of "7-Eleven" which refers to the idea that it takes about seven hours of spending time with someone to move them from stranger to friend territory. This is based on a study by Professor Robin Dunbar who studied social connections. Chris also talks about another study by Google which showed that it takes 11 touchpoints or interactions for someone to potentially buy from you. He combines these two ideas to explain why people might feel a connection with someone they've seen in multiple locations online, even if they've never met in person. Chris also talks about the importance of scarcity and exclusivity in marketing. He suggests that limiting the number of spots in a workshop or program can make it more appealing to potential customers. Overall, the video provides interesting insights into how to build relationships and create demand for your products or services.

Great episode Chris!!!!. I love when you are asking the right questions to bring more out of him. I've seen him with Ali Abdaal. He was bored out of his mind with Ali's questions and could not wait to move on to the next topic. I give you cudos for getting more out of this guy. Also cannot wait to see your other programs mentioned here so I ended up subscribing this time. Thank you for a valuable hour. You did not waste my time. In fact added some extra layer!!!🙏🏻

This strategy is an old one perfected by the De Beers cartel. No matter how scarce, or artificially scarce, they are, I find them to be the least interesting rock to wear. This "artificial scarcity" doesnt work on me with diamonds, Rolex, etc,. But must work when I am actually in the market for a thing.

Most people on youtube who claim to be in the graphic design industry are actually in the content creator business. Many of them have no portfolio to speak of, let alone an agency. What they sell is not applied graphic design but self-help and motivational BS or just pure clickbait with no substance. Same trend is present in 3D/VFX these days. Putting out tutorials and motivational stuff apparently pays better than doing something tangible.
