Күн бұрын

Time to build a 3 link long arm suspension with crossmember for the Jeep XJ. Also dial in Caster, Camber and Pinion Angle.
I've run short arms for 10 years and now that I've got the green light on some long arms I'm building a new crossmember and three link setup using DOM tubing, 1.25" and 7/8ths chromoly rod ends along with poly bushings to try and find some good offroad and on road performance.
Its an ambitious and involved project for me and my basic workshop but hopefully the end results are worth it.
Thanks for watching,
Mike

Awesome work Mike! It’s amazing to see what you accomplished in your garage with basic tools. Because of your location, lack of available parts. And crazy shipping fees from the USA. It’s kinda forced you to just fabricate what you need/want. The Jeep has evolved over the years. And you have too Mike. Your one hell of a fabricator 👊

change that upper axle bushing to a rebuildable joint, currie sells a pre machined one but if theres a common rebuildable joint like that sold in europe just machine it to press fit into the upper

Thats the plan I think. I bought a poly kit that I can use in a sleeve. It's not a flex joint but it will do. Thanks for watching

Well this was a spontaneous kind of thing and I'm actually wanting it all done ASAP so I can get back out and do some winter adventures 😄. Next up is rebuilding the rear camping setup, or updating it.

Good to see that somebody cares for doing things right. I have 89 4.0 XJ and I'm planning to do front link upgrade. I would go for 4 link but it might be not aware enought how tight it is up there... Love Your XJ! Greetings from Poland! Can You elaborate on why you choose 3 link not 4 link?
@WorkshoptoWilderness
@WorkshoptoWilderness 10 ай бұрын
I just chose a 3 link because of exhaust clearance. It was much easier to make a three link work under the jeep. A 4 link would be better for safety but I don't want to build a new exhaust. Thanks for the comment and for watching

Do love how you managed to slip that butt plug in there like the true professional you are 😎 Just a thought ... we all know where at least 50% of your sore throats comes from but I've watched you welding a lot with a face full of fumes. If you can aim a fan at about head height but not at the weld height to try and get rid of a lot of that. Makes a huge difference to the amount of crap your taking in and you'll feel better for it. Either than or spring for an air fed mask. Expensive but you've got monsters to raise and all that 😉
@WorkshoptoWilderness
@WorkshoptoWilderness 10 ай бұрын
Appreciate that. I'm often wearing a mask with a gas filler on it although I didn't have a replacement filter this time. I will try the small fan tip along with the mask, should help with the dirt throat! 😉 Thanks again for watching and for the comment

With the cross member are you worried about the front drive shaft rubbing. From the camera angle it looked really close.

Hi, I have a problem with the climate/hot air system on my 1998 Jeep Cherokee XJ 2.5 D. Airflow only goes to the windshield and the A/C compressor runs continuously regardless of the position of the hot/cold selector or airflow selector. Please, if you know how the system and the control panel work, help me with some advice. The airflow selector doesn't switch, it works only on windshield position.

I don't have AC on mine so unfortunately I have no experience on it. I imagine though that the jeep has a resistor that has failed. Probably a climate control resistor that's burnt up. With regards to the direction of air flow this is a failed switch or solenoid. Mine has a similar issue, it won't blow air on my feet. I haven't taken it apart yet to look at it. Sorry I can't be more help

Check for vacuum leak. Which vent is used is changed by vacuum and defrost is the default for the system if no vacuum is present. The defroster setting engages the ac system to dry the air and to run the compressor for off season maintenance. Hopefully that helps good luck
