Gnomon Founder, and President, Alex Alvarez walks us through his tried-and-trusted processes for creating photo-real natural 3D environments. Additionally, Alvarez’ demonstration discusses workflow techniques concerning how he uses Maya, V-Ray, ZBrush, Photogrammetry and Agisoft Photoscan to prepare natural assets such as rocks, cliffs, logs, and trees for digital sets.

Alex if you're reading @ 1:31:58 You can do it in photoshop, it's the same with PNG format just go Layer->Layer Mask->From Transparency. Then you can just disable/delete the layer mask, Happy Xmas! :)

Actually, PhotoScan v. 1.3 allows to disable saving transparency in alpha channel for the texture during the mesh export, so it should be more convenient now.
@Shamanix
@Shamanix 6 жыл бұрын
Agisoft, may be you finally learn about Associated Alpha and Unassociated Alpha? xNormal generate tiff with alpha that open in Photoshop as Image + alpha channel because alpha still can be needed. Or any evolution is not about your company, like your app still on same age with bundler while other tools used modern methods that faster and better?

1:16:50 into the video, Creating Photogrametry from a turntable, masks where created to separate from object the back ground. But at the time 1:16:50 in the video skips and important part where aligning images you are supposed click "Constrain Features by Mask" (under advanced options in the The Align photos window). If you don't click this the images will not align. So if you are the turntable method, Be sure the check that option box when aligning the images, or else you'll spend a lot of time wondering why your point cloud and mesh are unusable.

Amazing technology for gaming. The dead end with no reward is when the game is indistinguishable from reality. Only the gaming experience can be advanced through intuitive gameplay custom made to the individual. The future of gaming, like art, will be compelled to progress into the abstract because there is nowhere to advance to once everything is like reality. Within the abstract will be lower poly textures to induce various feelings. Something to think about in the hi res goal which will eventually backtrack. Minecraft is a good game, question why.

I am a bit confused on the process of how Alex uses grab doc to create alphas from his meshes, whenever I try my alphas capture small amounts of detail, nowhere near my photoscan quality. Is anyone able to help me by providing tips or perhaps links to any online documentation or tutorials to help me out? Thanks in advance

Get a copy of CaptureOne's catalogue tool known as iViewMediaPro - as it opens all 2D and 3D assets just like Deep Exploration from right hemisphere (SAS) as both lightroom and bridge tools are too slow at batching

dont subD to the final asset resolution. SubD once .. then project ... subD again .. then project and again .. until you're back up to the high res level. Then you avoid messy projection.

Andrew Knight I play with agisoft a lot. The short answer is it seems to give a better point cloud result. For a long answer I'd say you'd need to talk to agisoft devs. But i don't get as many empty holes as he seems to. But I carry a mono pole and use an app on my phone to control my Nikon. I put the camera on high odd angles and try to fill in random exposures. But this won't work with say an 80 foot tall tree.

Does anyone have any idea as to how he went about shaping the black areas for the alphas in photoshop? He said that he paints in black around the edges, but they seem very perfect and random. I'm wondering if he maybe uses a technique that he didn't show. I've heard of using color burn to get a similar effect, but it never gives me good results from the docked zbrush textures. Any ideas?

For anyone out there that is trying to figure this out.....Through a combination of levels and using the burn brush set to shadows you can get this affect :)

You are a soldier lol Using a black brush is very hard. No matter how much I tried I simply could not get a good look. I had remembered a masking technique using the burn brush and setting it to shadows. Seems to work pretty well. Thanks for the great video :)

And I didn't moved the object at all. Imported it into maya and its at the origin. What have I done wrong ? Thanks for any help
