WOW,,, super cool technique. Thanks!! I also appreciate knowing to use the SMOOTH side of rice paper down on a gelplate as mine would always tear when using the rough side,, **derp, lol
@ElizabethStHilaire4 жыл бұрын
Yes! the smooth side has been sized, it's less porous and less likely to stick!

I sometimes paint and print on colored papers, which I prime one side in order to create the "color tear." I love this technique and can't wait to give it a try. Thank you!
@ElizabethStHilaire4 жыл бұрын
that sounds wonderful Johanna, the only fear I have of pre-colored papers is that they are not lightfast and they fade in time and sunlight because they are colored with dyes and not professional pigments like the paints are.

Hi Elizabeth, just rewatching this again, because I really enjoy the colored paper edges and even how the rice paper feels and acts different when it has been saturated from the back as well. Quick question: assuming you could tear from the teal (rough side) and have gold edges and tear from the green gold (rough) side and have purple edges as well, correct?
@ElizabethStHilaire Жыл бұрын
Hi Heidi! The colored edge is always the color you soaked through with water, the gel printing just sits on top!

Elizabeth, do you think the rice paper could make a sturdy enough rolled bead?
@ElizabethStHilaire10 ай бұрын
I’m not sure, maybe!! Give it a try, I never have.
@minnahumble22943 жыл бұрын
What a good idea! A few questions. Did your gel plate get damaged? It looks dimpled in places. What can we do to avoid that? Do you ever paint the back side first (the teal) and let it dry, before applying the gold paint? To prevent the teal from bleeding into the gold.
@GelPress3 жыл бұрын
it's all about experimenting, you'll have to try painting the back first and see what happens. My plate does have dimples in it, take care of yours by putting it back in the clam shell. Since I am tearing my paper up for collage, it does not matter to me that there are specks or spots in the paper. Thanks!

Hello. ☺ I have managed to repair minor damage to my gel plates by massaging in baby oil to the whole plate, paying particular attention to the problem area, and letting it rest a few days. I do condition my plates regularly this way so maybe that helps too. Hope this is useful. ☺

Is rice paper the only paper you can use to get this effect?
