I like how her character is practically living in her even when she's not writing for him. It lets you know that the writing really came from a genuine place. It really is hard to separate yourself from a character that you spend so much time with. They seem to come to life.

Anne, you created a hero in my eyes with Lestat. He always represented vitality, passion, and life. I adored his aristocratic air and style, a bad boy gentleman from a time gone by. I remember turning 18 in New Orleans, visiting the city I had read so much about. Nearly 40 now and I am planning a trip back...it's been too long.

I thought it was just me who thought Lestat was really comical in a lot of ways but I never knew it was that intentionally written. His disgusted reaction to his human host body in "Tale of the Body Thief" was hilarious. He tried to burn himself alive in the sunlight and ended up with a really charming tan. He's got it so "together" in some ways but in others, he's a total blunderer.

This was a very, very, powerful explanation. I love how Anne Rice said that Lestat is apart of her and that he lives through her. That was heart warming...Lestat is my favorite fictional character even with all of the novels I've read from various authors...still...Lestat is my favorite and often I too try to be him.

She managed to put in words (and beautifully) how I feel about some of the characters I made up in my mind. Sometimes they emerge by themselves without you consciously creating them. Then your knowledge of them is so complete it's like an algorithm, you don't write them anymore, they write themselves and you're just a passive observer to what they're doing or saying, like a spectator watching TV. Kinda like the Sims game algorithm. You give your character a specific personnality in the beggining, then you just watch them interact with events and people accordingly to it.

I’ve been an Anne Rice fan since I was 10 or 11. I remember watching “Interview with the Vampire” and I became obsessed, even though my parents were not happy that I had watched a movie like that without asking for permission 😅 My husband is not a reader, but he watched the show with me every Sunday as the episodes were coming out, and it was funny when after we watched episode six, he turned to me and he was like: “You, me and Arya (our fur daughter) are just like Louis, Lestat and Claudia”. No comment has ever made me happier. The only difference is, our relationship isn’t toxic like Lestat’s and Louis’s is. Love you, Anne! Thank you for all you’ve given us and for being such an inspiration and refuge for people (and kids like myself) all over the world! ♥️

I can't believe she's created a masterful character as Lestat without knowing how his personality was going to be!!!! I can't believe what I'm listening to!!! When I read the novels, I felt I was like Louie. But I've realized that I have a Lestat inside me. I've suffered a lot in my life. At the beginning I was like Louie, but now I'm a fury Lestat. Maybe, Lestat is the natural development of Louie, talking about personalities...

I love her little bit about just going with Lestat, that she didn't have to stop and think, he simply wrote himself. And I cant help but grin at this because I have my own character like that and it's truly one of the most giddy feelings, one of the finest and I could spend hours upon hours meandering my way through a storyline fueled simply by my own character. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

"The Vampire Lestat" is by far the best vampire novel ever written to date, surpassing even Bram Stokers "Dracula" as far as I'm concerned. Others have accused Anne Rice's ending to the book as being "cheesy", referring to, of course, an eighteenth century vampire becomming a rock star. And yet cheesy it would have been ,I'm sure, had it not been for the unusual talent displayed by the author in weaving the ending of the book. The two sequels, however, I found to be a dissapointment.

Oh my. I have ever thought that Louis was literally the initial character n always thought Lestat was. Louis seems to me a bit too indecisive and sympathetic, and Lestat is the character that really pops. I also write a bit so I can relate to her saying "I know what he thinks" so much, sometimes I feel like I become my character and they become me too. However, she as a great author once again expressed the thoughts that I myself could not elaborate.

*Dreams of Forever* ~ My tribute to Anne Rice. ...Behold my words for they are my heart... ...Behold my poetry for it speaks my soul... And so I shall live far beyond my time, far beyond the superficial fads that die a meaningless death in endless repetition of relentless themes, regurgitated to the flock's Juvenal and engaged by the age's mutton robed as lamb. I am a creator. I am a writer. I am a poet, behold my words for they define me in their truth... Cherish them, for within their voice you will find me and share of me, that we may hold union as minds touch in transcendence of time. For as you read from my thoughts and memes, scribbled in fading yesterdays, so my words will be fresh to your dreams of today, embracing new tomorrows, slowly bridging the expanse of forever, turning the pages of eternity, that bring me life once more... You bestow me immortality, for as you read me, you will find me, hold me, and touch upon my soul. Remember me and I shall live on in you, a notion, an idea, an inspiration, a legacy of perpetuity as I commune my thoughts from ages passed to you this day. My legacy to you of my tomorrows is your gift to me today and for this... ...I humbly thank you...

That's one of the reasons why Lestat is my favourite character he does the things that we dare not do he's stalked an infamous killer for 6 months just to kill him and he's the type to clean the city of criminals and drug dealers and pretty much defies everything with pride even when he was captured by Armand's Devil worshipping vampires he completely shattered their old religion:“You will bring down the wrath of God on all of us with your defiance,” said the boy, the smallest of them, who couldn’t have been more than sixteen when he was made. “In vanity and wickedness you disregard the Dark Ways. You live among mortals! You walk in the places of light.” “And why don’t you?” I asked. “Are you to go to heaven on white wings when this penitential sojourn of yours is ended? Is that what Satan promises? Salvation? I wouldn’t count on it, if I were you.”The Vampire Lestat, that's what makes Lestat unique he does what he wants and even if he is in way over his head he still comes back even stronger than ever, he is what makes the thought of immortality attractive or being one's own self without any care of what others think about you and that all starts off with him just being a side character in Interview to Prince Lestat years later Anne's brilliant mind and character will be forever in our hearts RIP Anne Rice and thank you for helping me with my ability to read even better when I first read the VC when I'd left school poorly educated due to bullying and I still was able to with the help of your novels to relish books and build characters that feel as though I know them well as old friends 💙

THAT, which I think is fascinating, is what enhances the horror of Louis. It tells Louis "Beware of what you do now more than ever... otherwise look at the monster you may become." I was never a fan of the happy, heroic Lestat.

"That 'liberty' to live freely and joyfully is exactly what makes Lestat a monster" it only makes him a monster to those who are to afraid to live life exactly like that. In the americas they have this paper that talks about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Lestat possessed that life and those who can not possess it call those of us who can monsters simply out of their failing to able to live such a life. Human failing to understand reason is the monster.

I'm currently reading The Vampire Lestat book and I sort of getting a different perspective of him :)

Well, he went out nightly to kill people. That makes him a monster by definition. Furthermore, we cannot accept Lestat's tale, since he's an unreliable narrator. Louis may be more credible.

+Dr Wolfenstein The thing is, it's kind of obvious that Interview was written without the intention of a series. I mean, the next book came out nearly a decade later. I think, because of this, you kind of have to separate Interview from the rest of the books, and Louis' interpretation of Lestat from the actual version of Lestat. So, yes, when Interview first came out, Lestat was intended to be a monster, and your theories are all 100% valid. But once the other books came out, and Lestat became the protagonist, I think it's more of 'seeing it through Louis' eyes" than anything else. I mean, Lestat said that he only tried to kill the evildoer (something which he wouldn't lie about just to make himself look good, since it's what Marius told him to do).

I wish the Tale of the Body Thief could work, I think it would be a great movie, given the right actors and stuff! We need to all bring the vampire chronicles back to popular view somehow. Books I see on the shelves now are horrible, my friend reads this series which holds no real literature, you can't feel the atmosphere of the book. If writing is going down that path where things like that sell... well the world is in trouble ._.

Read 'The Vampire Lestat', it's far superior to 'Interview'. I'd say it would make a great film, but the descriptive narrative is such that I feel I've already seen the it.
