Title reads: "Creations of Cardinals".
Rome, Italy.
Good shot of St Peter's Cathedral looking over bridge across River Tiber. Various shots of cathedral taken from different angled.
Interior shots of St Peter's Cathedral. The Pope (Pius XII) carried down aisle on a chair ("the Sedia Gestatoria"). He blesses the congregation as he passes. We see the Pope sit on his throne, he is attended by members of the Sacred College. Old Cardinals are led up to kiss the Pope's ring and slipper. He receives the Vatican lawyers in black robes; they make a plea for the canonisation of four new saints. The 32 new Cardinals then pay their respects to the pope, including Cardinal Aganian of Armenia and Cardinal Griffin of Westminster. Background to the ceremony is provided by the Swiss, Palatine guards and Papal guards in traditional dress. We hear sound of choir singing in Latin. The pope leaves the cathedral, natural sound of people shouting "Viva Pope".

Está enterrado en Roma, en la Iglesia de San Nicola da Tolentino de los católicos romano-armenios, que era su Título Cardenalicio.

Thanks so much for asking a very intelligent question. There are factions of the Catholic church who feel that the Vatican II conference made changes that produced a church that was way too "liberal." (Things like changing the language of the Mass from Latin to the local language, encouraging nuns not to wear the old-fashioned long bulky habits, easing fasting rules during Lent, and showing "too much" tolerance for LBGTQ people.) Not all Catholics feel this way of course, but the ones who do can be quite vocal. They would like to use a sort of Wayback Machine to restore the world to the condition that was shown in this film.

He was the last real one because the claimant's to the papal throne since Pius XII have not believed as true Catholics and they therefore could not be the head of the Catholic church. It is not a common opinion but as you learn about the Catholic teaching on the papacy it becomes the only reasonable understanding of the situation.

@@johnking5174 because after Pope Pius XII all his successors gradually disassembled what had reached its glorious climax under Pius XII, who once stated: "After me the deluge." When John XXIII had been elected he asked for his file from the Holy Office where he had been under observation for many years as a suspected Modernist. One of his first acts was to raised Montini, another Modernist to Cardinal. Montini completed the doctrinal demolition of the Catholic Church by promulgating the Decrees of Vatican II and later destroyed the official succession of bishops by imposing the invalid rite of Anglican bishops (declared so by Pope Leo XIII late 1800s) in 1969--even before imposing the protestantized Novus Ordo Missae in 1970. Only a remnant of faithful clergy and laity retain the valid ancient Rites "in the catechombs."

@@timothymckee1412 Well, as someone who was brought up as an Anglican myself, your words about Anglicans doesn't sit well with me sadly. Here I do have to disagree with you. But parking that issue to the side, I do agree with you that many aspects of your church traditions have been changed for the worse. I am from what is known as "High Church Anglicanism" where they kept all the pomp and splendour of the ancient catholic heritage. We have altar rails. We have vestments. We use incense. We chant Latin at some parts of the Eucharist. We believe Christ is present at Holy Communion, we just do not agree on how that presence takes place. We believe at the words of consecration Jesus presence is imparted onto the bread and wine, but not in the manner your church teaches. We do not believe the Eucharist is a sacrifice. When you receive communion in a High Church Anglican setting, you must kneel down at an altar rail, and receive communion on the tongue. So, I hope you understand, that we do take it to heart when you count us as "invalid".

@@johnking5174 well in 1958 Pope Pius the 12th died after that Vatican 2 council was introduced and they started to change the mass and you cannot change something that was instituted by Christ himself and they've been doing that since then they've taken away the traditional Latin mass and put their own twist on it changing the words and the literature something that cannot be done because like I said it is instituted by Jesus Christ you cannot change something that he instituted. Hopefully this helps if you need more info please let me know thank you God bless.

@@Catholic647 Very interesting. I am an Anglican, and never really understood this about catholicism. In the Anglican faith, in terms of liturgy, we have a split between those who feel that our liturgy should only be conducted according to the Book of Common Prayer 1662 edition, which is in the old fashion traditional English language. Whereas there are a lot of people who feel the modern English language should be mostly used, using the Common Worship prayerbook in the contemporary language. Not the same as your problems, but a divide is there. This is why the Prayerbook Society was created, to try and maintain useage of the official BCP 1662.

@@johnking5174these heretics are called sedevacantists. They think 2.000 bishop of the Vatican Council II were wrong and they, the sedevacantist heretics like this one, are right. In fact they're not in spiritual communion with the Church. You as a protestant might be closer to them in communion with us Catholics than they are, mainly if you are from a mainstream protestant church like the Lutheran or some reformed one.

To any Roman Catholic reading this, I have read that your Pope Pius XII changed a great deal in the liturgy of your church. People say Pope Paul VI made great changes after the Second Vatican Council, but Pius XII made a lot of changes too, which many Catholics seem to ignore.

Actually, a sizable amount of us are aware of the changes, especially to that of Holy Week. There is a growing trend among Trads for the so-called Pre-1955 Missal. A lot of Trads actually retained the Pre-1955 Mass after V2 but the negotiations between the Vatican and the SSPX which led to their adoption of the 1962 Missal entailed its eventual supersession of the Pre-1955 among Trad Communities, especially those under Ecclesia Dei and Summorum Pontificum. However, a few years ago, permission was given for the usage of the Pre-1955 Holy Week within the Ecclesia Dei Communities which was taken into full advantage.

@@johnking5174 i had an italian friend in Rome that was about to be Ordeined as anglican Priest. I asked Him if the cerimony would be at the anglican church of Rome (that's a big church). He told me , he was following a different branch of the anglicanism that After 1977 (?) Refused its reforms. I didn't know that also the anglican church suffered schisms. The catholic church had this phenomenon After the Vatican council (1962/65) with the traditionalist mouvement of MR Lefebvre. I attended in the past for a while traditionalist catholics.
