I suggest that when a customer says I wish you had _____ , give them a chance to custom order that product. I have owned a quilt shop and got sooo in debt because I listened to some customer who said “ you should get this or sell that” . So I would buy whatever “it” was but those customers never came back and guess what? The product didn’t sell, or I had to deeply discount it. Live and learn! So now if I don’t have what a customer wants at a market I’m vending, I can still make a sell because I take their order and I get full payment. We both win!

Great tips! 1. A few places around me only allow white canopies, keep that in mind. Toolbox idea is a good one, i have an extra tote where i keep my just in case everything. You didn't mention greeting your customers...just a good morning works wonders. Definitely go with a fanny pac of some kind. But, im 6'6" 230 pound man, no one's gonna try to get my fanny pac 😂 Im always the last to tear down, always a last minute sale!

I did bazaars etc in the 90s , took a break to work "my day job". Finally now in my upper 70's I am back at it. You are spot on with everything you said and taught. How awesome you are to help the newbies and yes some oldsters ! Thank you this has been very informative. I did my comeback in the spring in a park here in our little town and I am definitely making displays before fall shows. But did have great sales.

You know how you watch a ton of videos and so by the umpteenth one you’re just sort of half listening to see if that person has anything new to add-well, I had to keep stopping the video to write your ideas down. Finally I just grabbed a notebook and started to take serious notes. It’s been a few years since I’ve had a booth at a craft fair so I already knew a lot of it but it was nice to have a thorough refresh and I appreciated all of the little fine points. Well done.

Great tips and the pep talk was very helpful. Other tips I'd add that has been invaluable for me was to make sure that if you're taking Square or having some sort of card reader that you (1) make sure everything is fully charged, in the event you don't have access to electricity; (2) bring a portable charger, in case your cell phone/tablet/POS is not charged enough; and (3) verify internet access or hot spot needed/quality, so that your electronic payments can be processed easily.

A great low budget tent weight option is a couple sacks of play sand from Lowes or Home Depot. $5 each and they weigh about 50lbs.

Thank you so much for all this information. I’m just getting started. I’ve done events in the past and always got in debt due to not selling enough to cover the fee. I don’t understand about not using business cards and you are so right. People take them and I never hear from them. I’ve invested in table covers, canopy, fans, cash box, displays and I advertise the events on my facebook page. I have my personal Instagram, Facebook, and I advertise on my groups. That has not helped. I have handmade wood products from recycled materials and sewing items, and shopping tote bags. I stamp my information on the back of wood products but haven’t invested in sewing labels for my sewing items. I don’t understand about QR codes and other ways to contact me.

Just an FYI we do vendor events in North and South Carolina. Many of the hosts are requiring 50 pounds of weight per leg! This isn’t usually a windy area, but we’ve been having some gnarly wind lately. Had tents fly into ours several times that weren’t secured at all. Thankfully our tent withstood the blow and we had no damage because they also didn’t have insurance. I don’t know why any legitimate business wouldn’t have insurance and additional event insurance.

I was having SUCH a day today! And then I watched your video and the end made me cry, because I've been struggling so hard with these first few fairs - enough to where, even though I've already invested some money into a canopy and table and a couple of display stands, I keep asking myself not only whether it's worth it, but whether I can even DO this. I've compared myself to other vendors, wondered why I wasn't making sales when everyone around me was, KNEW my display wasn't as nice as theirs, and even thought maybe I wasn't inviting enough. I had come to the point where I thought maybe my products aren't that great, even though I know the crowd at my last fair just wasn't right for what I'm trying to sell. So thank you for your encouraging words toward the end of your video. I had a fair today that was cancelled and my stress has been so high that I'm literally sick in bed, today (I have Dysautonomia, which is severely impacted by stress). I decided to try researching more about what I'm trying to do and why it might not be working, since I'm having a down day, and I found your video. Some of your advice I had already come to realize on my own just with my experiences so far, but I added a fair few things to my list to do in the future from your tips. Also, especially helpful are your links in the description! Thank you for those - it's been hellish, just trying to find what kinds of displays I need, and days of looking through Amazon not knowing what peg boards were called, or gridwall, made it so I just wasn't finding the right things, on my own! You rock! 😍 Liked and subscribed, ❤ and if I had any money, I'd buy you a coffee! 🥹

thank you so much for watching and sharing your kind words ❤️ I'm so glad my video could help in any way but I'm ecstatic that my encouraging words could provide some relief for you, I just knew how discouraged I was after my first few events with sales/costs, comparing my booth to others, and just feeling completely lost with a touch of imposter syndrome, so I felt like I needed to include that in there because someone out there HAS to feel the same way as I did then. I know it's easier said than done (as I still struggle with this) but don't stress about what's out of your control, you can only try your best babe! There's only room for improvement, and it does get easier (and better) the more you do! Good luck on all your future markets, I KNOW you can do it!! 💪💅👏💕

@@CreativelyErica thank you so much! I'm learning that networking is important - and is a thing I'm not very good at, but I'm trying. I haven't had a craft fair since the cancelled one the day I commented on your video, because vendor fees keep stopping me from being able to sign up! I'm considering trying the flea market, but my prices might be too high for that, I don't know. I'm still struggling, but in the interim, I'm meeting new people, and I have a couple of opportunities lined up. This seems to be a hard thing to get into, for a variety of reasons (cost of vendor fees, poor sales with the wrong crowd for my crafts, still learning how to set up my stall...), but I'm not ready to give up, yet! 🩵

Solid Gold advice, particularly the section about not packing up too early. It's been a long time since I attended Craft Fairs, which for me were Computer Fairs, but the Wisdom still holds good. Much of what you said is blindingly obvious, but therein lies the pitfall for many an aspiring crafter (like me) which is that we get blinded by thinking we have nice things to sell and don't consider the need to present them in a way that people will actually buy them! Thank you. Now, can I feed back something which is that it took me 5 or 6 visits to actually complete watching this, so can I suggest it be broken down into a series of slightly more digestible chunks. Great Information I do a lot of the things that you already talked about, game changer for me is having the table on the top or the front. You’re so right about having to pull everything out just to get to the table. I love your ideas on marketing especially the social media. I don't pre-pack mine because I've noticed the customers like to hold the shirt up to them for sizing and they would take them out to look at/inspect the shirt (even though I had a display one out).

Really depends on how busy the craft fair is, I've also noticed that I always sell more in the fall/winter events than I do during spring/summer ones. Personally I would bring 30-50 to a small craft fair.

I get the whole litter thing but as a customer I love business cards and flyers! I would love to have one given to me every time I purchase something, there have been so many times I have bought something and wanted more after the market is over but I forgot to look at or write down their info. Some names are so generic too that it is impossible to find them by searching online.

Yes, I do a $1 surcharge that I have posted on my payment signs at my checkout station if they want to use their cards

I have a question maybe you can help me with. I have a vendor event next month. I only sell car freshies and maybe freshie hangers, but I have over 40 scents to choose from. Should I make freshies for each scent or just choose maybe 10-20 scents and how many should I make of each scent?

Personally I wouldn't do all of them, I'd do 10-20 tops. You don't want to overwhelm the customers with too many options. And the quantity kind of depends on the size of the craft fair. If it's a smaller one I'd bring like 50 freshies in total if it's a big one that you know is gonna be super busy I'd bring 100, unless it was a multiple day event then maybe bring some more.

I can't find a craft fair so I attend a fleamarket and I am a known face now. The problem is some are there for second hand clothing. My Table looks pristine compared to the junky tossed-in piles tables and I feel left out. I am preparing so much for the May one.

Totally get that! Try looking up events near what ever the largest city you're closest to is on facebook- "craft fair markets near Nashville". I have friends that don't have any near them either and they have to travel for them but they only sign up for ones that are like a whole weekend to make it worth the trip. You can always track gas mileage and other trip expenses and write them off for your business' taxes later.
