I don't see how this looks funny to Chinese. This is limitless imagination and it is very beautiful. There's actually no need to study the culture, this guys a master of photo manipulation, he creates anything he wants.

Could you do the same in mypaint, krita or THE GIMP? There is no photoshop for my operating system.

se7ensnakes those apps are not as developed and I'm pretty sure they are. I haven't ever seen a Linux version but I have seen windows and mac.

if youre still interested: im a photoshop artist myself and i bet it took around 10-11 hours only for the speedart itself + maybe 2 hours to look for fitting images.

sorry , but I do not have an online stock photography where they shot , usually I search keywords such as : mountains , boats , etc.
