Even though a lot of people make fun of Creed, they are great musicians. The lyrics and message in this is awesome. I love the line "The only difference is to let love replace all of our hate". We need that in the world today especially!

They nake fun of them because Stapp was so open about his beliefs and they were a band that didn't want to be labeled a Christian band and still wrote songs that were undeniably Christian in nature. When Stapp stumbled the band broke up to distance themselves from the perception that their leader singer was a "fraud". People stopped listening to the message. The problem is that no matter how dedicated a human is they will always stumble and often in the same ways. No one is perfect and no one is righteous. If you think you are righteous then you can guarantee you are not. Good music is good music and a good message is a good message. My first exposure to Creed was the song One. If that message is somehow wrong or in any way false then I don't want to continue living in this world.

@@cloudrunner7 Agree. Also want to add the obvious: They are a ROCK band and rock bands are FAMOUS for doing..., those types of things. For me, I never cared if they "lived" the life of their lyrics. I mean, really. Go through decades of lyrics of all types of bands -- rock, hard rock, heavy metal -- and you are glad that the lyrics are just that; lyrical fiction. I never listened to Creed or any other band, hoping they lived their lyrics.

But it's not though. Scott said it was just about a dream about his own personal greed and wanting his own personal fulfillments. And Scott denied wanting the band to be a Christian band just like the other members. Not everything is about heaven and being Christian. People saying that is what made them start to fall apart in the first place.

When I first heard 'With Arms Wide Open,' I heard the rock/orchestral version, and had it on a CD. Probably a burned mix CD, but oh well. So years later, I'm not listening to music off CD's anymore, basically just KZfaq, and I had no idea there were two versions. I of course went to listen to it and found the original one... which I immediately thought was far inferior/complete garbage compared to the rock/orchestral version. I still feel that way about WAWO today, though I try not to make a big deal out of it anymore.

I've probably seen over 100 different bands/singers that were on the radio at some point. Anyway, I'm pretty neutral but judgmental of live performances, and Creed was a top 5 concert performeance at the time.........until their 3rd album that is. On the Billboard Hot 100, "Higher" peaked at #7, but stayed on the chart for 57 weeks. It's a classic example of a "slow boil" on the Hot 100, when a song slowly increases and decreases in popularity as it crosses over to radio stations of different formats at different times. In the case of "Higher," it first impacted on Active Rock and Alternative stations at the end of the summer of 1999, and airplay was strong enough on both that the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, Mainstream Rock and Alternative charts all at the same time on September 11, 1999. From there, the song exploded up both Mainstream Rock and Alternative to #1 in a very short time. It needed only six weeks to reach #1 on Alternative, doing so on October 16, 1999; and spending three weeks at the top. Even more impressive, it needed only three weeks to reach #1 on Mainstream Rock, doing so on September 25, 1999; and spending a whopping 17 weeks at the top. In spite of the strong airplay on Active Rock and Alternative stations, "Higher" hadn't yet begun to cross over to CHR (Top 40) stations, so it initially peaked at only #52 on the Hot 100 on October 30, 1999; and dropped off the Hot 100 on January 29, 2000; due to Billboard's policy of removing songs that have been on the chart for more than 20 weeks and are below #50. However, airplay remained strong on Mainstream Rock, and didn't begin to peter out on Alternative until the song began to impact on CHR (Top 40) radio stations in the spring of 2000. After eight weeks off the Hot 100, "Higher" reappeared at #43 on March 25, 2000; and finally entered the Top 40 two weeks later on April 8, 2000. For the next 13 weeks, CHR airplay continued to build, and Active Rock airplay remained solid, with the song taking its time moving down Mainstream Rock. In addition, the song began to impact on Hot AC ("Hot" Adult Contemporary; basically CHR minus rap) stations, giving it the boost it needed to enter the Top 10 of the Hot 100 on July 8, 2000. "Higher" peaked at #7 on the Hot 100 on July 22, 2000; and spent six weeks in the Top 10, not falling out until August 19, 2000. As CHR and Mainstream Rock airplay began to wane, steady Hot AC airplay in the late summer and fall of 2000 kept the song from plummeting down the Hot 100, giving it a slow descent instead. It didn't fall out of the Top 40 until November 4, 2000. Finally, after 57 non-consecutive weeks on the Hot 100, and 65 weeks of steady radio airplay on at least one format, it dropped off the Hot 100 for good on December 9, 2000.

A side-trip rabbit hole related to Creed might be reacting to Scott Stapp and others singing with the Doors. The remaining Doors had a variety of vocalists sing different songs with them, and the results were surprisingly cool.

Higher was so popular when it now came out and there message is so positive. They even did a soundtrack for the Horror Thriller Scream and they totally owned it. Creed has so many hits but I think you should do What If next. Also don't stop on the Alter Bridge train they have the best back to back albums ever. You should binge review one every week. You wouldn't be disappointed. Great review 👏👏👏👏

Not the same. They’ve really progressed as musicians. Myles Kennedy also plays significant parts in lead and rhythm guitars and is responsible for approx 50 percent of the song writing - along with Tremonti , who himself has been allowed to shred guitar in AlterBridge to an extent that he wasn’t able to explore in Creeds more simplistic and less heavy songs. I liked Creed - I love AlterBridge!
