One time, an old friend and I were backpacking on the AT last fall and encountered a bunch of weird stuff! The funniest was probably when we had to share a shelter overnight with a group of feds and government officials from all across the tri-state area. They said once a year they get together to go backpacking for a buddies vacation and let their guard down. We built a fire and they got real drunk. They even offered us some cigars and beers even though we were underaged and just started sharing stories and laughing together, it was the best! The one guy was an FBI agent and boy did he have stories to share! He couldn't tell us everything oc but I'll never forget that night! 😅

That note almost seems like a weird, creepy 'geocache' that you happened upon. Either way, neat for some video footage lol! I'm in Pa too (western), and last year I found a note that wasn't as creepy. It was both sad and lovely. It was on a walking bridge that I walk on all the time and something caught my eye. And I walked up and someone had tucked into one of the bridge beam holes a huge beautiful bouquet of colorful dozen roses, there was a note folded up in them and it said "To whoever finds these flowers, I hope you have better luck than I did" (with a little smily face). I felt bad, someone obviously got rejected, but was sweet to share the beautiful (and no doubt expensive) roses to brighten someone's day. (We gave them to my son's grandma, and I still have the note on a stand in my living room as a reminder of random acts of kindness!

Cliff, It's more fun to find a flat stone painted with a picture on one side and a nice message on the other. Sometimes left by children on family hikes are just to communicate their joy of life. Cheers, Rik Spector P.S. Thanks for the name correction👍👍

About a year ago someone dropped several of those exact notes, in small plastic bags, along the D&L bike trail here in northeastern PA.

I find lots of those notes @swatara park. I posted the note on Pennsylvania rail to trails Facebook page to ask about them. I received over 100 responses. People are finding them everywhere. I just remove them, I find them annoying and consider them to be litter.

I've found those notes around trafficked trails, state forests and state parks for years. I just pocket and trash later. Usually wrapped up in cellophane and paper clipped to something. The people that leave those are simply WACKADOODLES!

Nice little hike, thanks so much. Suggestion...soak that hat in permethrin...you'll keep those bugs away from your face. It will be like a force field they won't want to cross. It has worked that way for me. Love that stuff.

Cliff, I enjoyed the caterpillar search. I actually found a Hickory Horned Devil some years ago. It was in September, the day after a hurricane, so he probably was blown out of a tree by high winds. I think you'd enjoy David L. Wagner, "Caterpillars of Eastern North America," 2005, a terrific guide book. It's so visually beautiful, I could spend hours just browsing it.

I think we get creeped out when we find something so out of place in the woods ,like that note hanging in a tree, that maybe suddenly we wish we weren't alone and vulnerable. Also might kinda make you feel you're being watched! 🥺😟

I found two copies of that exact note over a year ago hanging in trees in the Roaring Creek tract. I couldn't make any sense of it either.

We can't escape the copypastas even when out in nature! I do need to get out and walk though, and trails and parks are probably the best way to do that.

I found a very similar note folded up and taped to the wall of a public bathroom at the trailhead for the Pine Creek Rail Trail in Jersey Shore PA a couple years ago. Interesting to see it show up again.

I found that same creepy note hung in the same way, last year, on the rail trail at Swatara State Park.

I know exactly the note. I found the same thing in the Weiser State Forest. I could see some of those groups/societies you didn’t mention. I left it hanging in the tree. A month later it was still there. No clue if it’s there now. Didn’t let it bother me but just payed extra attention to any noise. Never know what’s going on coming across something like that

Found a hickory horned devil at our place once. He was actually on one of our walnut trees. We were going to show it to someone, so we put it in a heavy grocery bag and it chewed its way out. We just set it free after that. They are so freakishly big and scary looking! Scarier than that wierd note you found...

Get out and explore, good advice. This morning my wife and I did a little walk along Jackon Lake in Mancos, Co. We found a piece of petrified wood. That's not uncommon out here but still cool. I've been in the southwest seven years now. Can't wait to move back home to Pennsylvania next month. There are some fishing trails along the Susquehanna at New Market I'd like to check out. Good video.

I found five of them at five different campsites along the Appalachian Trail, in Dauphin, Lebanon, and Schuylkill counties last month

the creepy note you found, caught my attention! I too have found 2 of these, sorta similar and confusing...almost seems someone is setting these and using them to communicate. The 2 I found were at Memorial Lake along trails, but sorta hidden. Coud they be some type of code, or just nonsense..one of them was TACKED to a tree in a plastic wrap, the othe was held in place using a red paperclip///definitely weird///I kept one and took a pic of the second one

I found a few of these exact notes up here in schuylkill county, one neatly folded in a plastic bag near my home. Still have it actually, this occurance has been going on for a few years it seems.

Hey Cliff, The "note" you found is an esoteric warning, and you are not the only one to find one, hundreds of people on reedit have reported finding them. i actually found one myself near the boulder field off the AT in Pa. back in i think it was 2016, and by the looks of the one you found it looks like the same person or group placed it there...

The grassy stuff I think is Japanese Stiltgrass. It’s highly invasive but looks lush.

I found a note almost exactly like that about two years ago inside a box of macaroni and cheese. I figure it must have been put in by someone at the manufacturing facility because it was inside the sealed box. It was the same kind of small folder up paper with tons of abbreviations and symbols like what you found. But the one I found was all about the virus and secret societies. Needless to say, I did not eat that box of macaroni. It weirded me out.

Cliff, are you CERTAIN those are black cherries? I have tons of those in my yard, and I have a crab apple tree. My outdoor cameras are filled with images of deer with tails lifted high, while dining on crab apples! 😆 That note is another reminder to the young 'uns; THIS is why you shouldn't use drugs!

Those notes are found all over the US - in the woods, slipped into merchandise, in parks… It’s rambling incoherent nonsense.

That note reminds a lot of the ones KKK members put on peoples car and on houses when it was MLK day or when a certain movie came out in York pa and Carlisle. I worked in news for FOX43 at the time as a photographer and covered it in a story. Anyways it’s very similar to what those notes said in that incident. so that would be my guess is what it is.

It's hard to read the note mainly because of the way it's written. Different people have different truths created for them. The different versions of truth and lies create the divides. Life is more like the Truman show than many will ever know. That letter is that persons truth as he or she believes it to be. He or she has been moved to share his or her truth. In reality, nobody truly knows if anything is truthful unless they see it for themselves. Someone can tell you that there was a car accident down the road but you don't truly know that there was a car accident unless you could see it yourself. So people form biases from their sources of information. News tells you what they want you to think. It's up to the individual to do their best research possible to find the best version of truth. Unfortunately, people tend to be lazy and they do not do their own research. The troubling thing to me is the willingness of people to so easily try to suppress someone else's truth because it doesn't fit their bias. Similar to a form of book burning. You've actually made it possible for many more people to see the letter than the person may have ever dreamed. Which in a way is a good thing. It's up to the reader to make their mind up about the book or in this case a note. Imagine Jesus coming down from heaven and trying to tell people truth. So many people today would put him back on the cross because he might not be saying something that fits within their bias. Very few people own the different media companies today. So it's very easy to control the narrative even if it is a lie. The control of information (YT, FB, news, etc.) pushes people to find other ways to share their truth. Imagine if all the companies on the World Economic Forum partner list (Bank of America, P&G, Toyota, Honda, Gates Foundation, Bank of China and many more) pushed their workers to do certain things because of a WEF agenda. Maybe organizations were formed to hold things over peoples heads to force compliance. Globalists fund the UN, WEF, FDA, etc.. Much like in past sterilization programs a lot of people would be pushed into doing certain things. Maybe taking certain harmful things into their bodies. It's really not as complicated as the letter suggests. It's the extremely rich against everyone else. Currently Maui is under attack. You know you are closer to truth when they try to control what you say. They don't mind lies.

Those notes are obviously written by people who've gotten totally lost in conspiracy theories. Many conspiracy theories are true or at least there is truth in them, but many are also false and lead into deception, anti-semitism, racism and all sorts of evil.
