This is a great instructional video of how to have some of the sickest scars out there. I'm not a doctor but I've had my fair share of injuries to my fingers due to construction and learning the trade. My suggestion would never be to cut off the remaining tissue after an injury. Personally, I would have just cleaned it really well and scrubbed it as best I could. Clean it with FKing iodine. (Alcohol and peroxide damage tissue and hinder healing) then just held it tight and superglued it shut like a liquid stich. Called it done. This craziness of cutting the remaining still connected tissue was unnerving to watch. Completely unnecessary and much more painful than it could have been.
@222gracemac
@222gracemac 2 жыл бұрын
Literally just had to wash it out with soap and warm water put a band aid on it and call it a day. The cutting of the skin was the most uncalled for shit and then they just poured a bunch of bleach on it. Reckon basic first aid should be mandatory on these boats lol
@pogojp
@pogojp 2 жыл бұрын
@@222gracemac i suggested super glue because he's going to have to use his hand and work relatively soon. Super glue helps hold it together and not move around while he's working. I agree with you but I would personally have done super glue. Even doctors in the ER use super glue to fix wounds. I had super glue on my face because they didn't want to use a stich due to the scar the stich itself leaves behind. Also they cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol. Both of which cause tissue damage. Iodine would of been the best solution.
@222gracemac
@222gracemac 2 жыл бұрын
@@pogojp no I get the superglue this there’s also pretty common first aid stuff that does the same thing with less skin damage. Iodine would be great but 80% of the time warm after and soap is good enough and the Safest if you can’t get iodine. No disrespect to you I think it’s just bonkers that on a boat like that nobody would appear to have the smallest idea of first aid lmao

I've had the first thing happen at least 20 times as a bricklayer. People cut off their nails and stuff on this show. You dont have to do that. what you should do is clean it with Betadine, super glue it shut, wrap it with clean gauze and tape and keep it clean and dry. (as best you can) They use a type of super glue at the emergency room, but I can tell you first hand, super glue out in the real world does just fine in a pinch and barely leaves a scar. I've had to do it multiple times when medical care was too far off. Taylor, however, may just need bubble wrap and a rubber room! Poor guy

I've had cousins lose the ends of fingers and continue on. Being too far out to come back in, unless it is a live or die situation. Do what ya gotta do. @Myself andI I think you're being a little over dramatic. It's more for the older people who do not understand, and also no one is saying they dislike the American accent. I'm also not even expression my opinion, this is actual fact. This is the reason they re record the voice over. It's because of people not being able to understand it. So piss off

I once went to hit a chisel with my hammer and missed and hit my finger. It hurt bad, really bad. I didn't realize the extent until I took my glove off and seen it was broke. No need for a drug test (lol) so I took some finger length bolts and electrical tape, went to the bathroom and wrapped it up and went back to work

The knivess that they refer to as a "Vicky", Are made by Vitorinox, with surgical stainless steel that can hold an edge sharp as a razor. Most of these guys have 1 or 2 on them. They use them throughout the day, and then forget they are wearing them into a bar. NOT TO PANIC!! Are they shuffling around in rubber boots, Like they already have half a beer buzz? Ok, Those guys just got off the boat.

Always leave them skin flaps on, it acts like a shield for the wound so it doesn't hurt as much when you hit it on stuff. It just dries out then falls off or you cut it off with no pain because it's dead.

That bit of skin shouldn't have been removed. Should have cleaned the finger well and under the flap and then secured it with some dressing. That's common sense. The skin would have grown back onto the finger and been a barrier for germs and debris as it healed. It would have grafted itself back on naturally.

@Myself andI No, You could die at anytime from a Stab wound, Internal bleeding can continue LONG after the outside wound has stopped and If one is On their feet and Already exhausted, It can mask the symptoms of bleeding out..Working, Feeling like shit, Pass out or go to sit for a rest, and, Dead. Seen it myself when a guy shot himself in the back with a Staple gun, less than 1/16 of an inch hole.. Punctured a vein in his lower back and he was dead 3 hours later from internal bleeding. Never underestimate a puncture wound.. They Usually Kill Months or years later by infection.

U dont know that quick if u puncture something in most cases. Also u dont know how much blood is pooling inside you. Hemotomas can take 12 hours to a couple days and they keep expanding. Im probably the idiot that would medically assess myself since I'm qualified and then go back to work.

@@OhKindSir that looks like it could be behind the lung or JUST under it. Hard to tell in that quick shot of it though..but hes pulling the tissue closer to the front so he can see it. I d be hella worried about infection with that knife though. If i remember right most boats keep biotics on board though.

Depends on how it got the injury and how it well it can be taken care of over the week. Skin that got cut by sheer pressure heals differently from a straight up cut. I can also guarantee that that kid isnt gonna keep it cleaned and moist. Ive gotten deep cuts on my hands that with pressure and keeping it moist and cleaned for a week or so healed mostly down. The only one that didnt heal down was from the one that got caught under my science project it cracked my thumb nail and sheered some skin near the knuckle. Even with pressure and keeping it well taken care of it dried up and grew a new batch of skin instead of healing down.
