My in-depth review of the CRF250X. Actually, this review doesn't go into EVERYTHING I have to say about the CRF250X, BUT I had to fit as much of the important stuff into 20 minutes as I could, so this is what I ended up with.
I will update this section when new things break and asplode!
Thanks a million to the crew members who supported this project!!

Bike has 40 hours since the review and hasn't blown up yet. Not even a valve clearance adjustment needed yet hmmm surprising.
In-Depth CRF250X Review
Intro
The CRF250X was released back in 2004 to fill some gaps in the Honda line up. It was a consolation offering at the end of the beloved XR250R’s production, it was a response to Yamaha’s WR250F, and it was the off-road sister to the CRF250R. But how well does it actually perform these roles? And now that the price for used CRF250X bikes has dipped into the $2000 dollar range, is it a viable option for riders looking for an affordable dirt bike? I’ll be discussing all of that and much more in this In-Depth review of the 2004 through 2017 CRF250X.
The CRF250X has not changed greatly from 2004 to 2017, there have just been minor changes such as tweaks to the carburetor, fuel tank, seat, plastics, suspension settings, brake rotors and the head. For the most part, it has been the same bike for over a decade featuring a 249cc, single overhead cam, 4 valve, liquid cooled engine, Showa twin chamber forks, a Showa rear shock, and an aluminum frame all very similar to the early CRF250R, but with an electric start in addition to the kick starter, a wider gear ratio spread in the transmission, a smaller carburetor, a lower performance head, a 12 volt DC charging circuit, an AC lighting circuit, headlight, tail light, a more flexible frame, plusher suspension settings, wider seat... If you enjoyed this content, you'll enjoy Torture Test Magazine! Check it out at torturetestmagazine.com/

Been putting off watching this one Jim but very entertaining as always! I think you sum it well by saying it could never replace the xr though. I just can't imagine giving up the reliability and ease of maintenance of the old xr's and dr's for the performance of more modern bikes. Great review!

Great review. I bought my 2006 250x 8 years ago from a guy that just rebuilt the motor, top end. Ride about 15-30 hours, around 250 miles a year and definitely feel lucky. Last year started smoking at start up so decided to order rebuild kit. Found out my cylinder was 269cc with an 07 R head and SS KibbleWhite Valves and Tie spring kit. Next rebuild might be complete motor, ouch

These bikes look great, but I think I'll stick with the XR250R! Doing an engine rebuild, even once a year, is just too costly. The old XR engines go for years and then only need a piston and rings, which is not very expensive. Superb review by the way! All your reviews are excellent.

Great review. Just the info I was looking for on the crf250x, as I was thinking of replacing my old dr350 that I've been riding for the last 17 years with one. My wife would kill me putting that much into maintenance and doesn't sound like it would suit the slow technical riding I do in Colorado. I guess it's time to add a 2 stroke to the garage if I'm going to be rebuilding a bike every winter.

Hello, I'm George and a 250X owner. My first Honda and first experience with SOHC. I just finished the valve job converting to steel so hopefully lasts longer than 20 hours. Previous owner didn't understand the importance of a clean air filter that is correctly sealed. I have grown to really like it I can feel the bike is really close to what I'm looking for on power but something you mentioned might help get it. I rebuilt the carb last year trying to fix my rough idle and hard starting problem. (LOL little did I know that soon came a valve job) Well during re-assembly I went with the stock position on the clip because no other mods have been made? I also stuck with stock jet. I also know exactly what I'm doing tomorrow! Great Video!

I’m looking to upgrade from my first bike (A CRF 150r small wheel) because it’s just too small. I’m 6’0 at 150 lbs which is 30 lbs over the weight limit and I can barely even fit on it. Would you recommend this for an intermediate rider/ second bike? Or is there a better Honda I should shoot for? I have my own trails which are pretty bumpy and windy so I’ll definitely need something cushy in suspension but not too powerful. Thanks a lot for reading 🤙

Great video, can you recommend a cheap bike with less maintenance 250cc to 450cc, doesn't need to be high performance

I bought a yz 125 and I love it. But I’m finding myself wishing I bought a crf 250 having grown up riding Hondas. I just do trail riding and heavy off-roading and it’s all I need. The yz gives you a complete rush when the powerband kicks in but I miss the even power delivery of a 4stroke. Not to mention I can get a California green sticker for it and ride year round. I guess the grass is always greener.

Hi, I’m new to the scene and recently acquired an 04 250x; and noticed it already has the air box mod. And I was curious since where I ride mainly has a some water crossings, does anyone with the air box mod have any water problems? If so then looks like I might be going back to stock carb jet and air box

Which other bikes are better to have in terms of maintenance costs? I looking to get one CRF 250 R or X from 2006 to 2011. I currently own a CRF230F 2008, but I want something more powerfull and better equiped (suspensions)... (I will not sell my CRF230F)
