I had one of these as a compliment to my 250-xcw. It really is a fun bike to ride but it is really cold natured and the stock valves are junk. I replaced them with steel valves and the bike ran much better. I sold the bike to a buddy a year ago and the valves still have needed no adjustment. I highly recommend putting steel intake valves in with heavier springs. I have since moved on to a beta 300RR because I don't want a fuel injected 2 stroke yet. Best of luck!

I love my 05 250x, I bought off my uncle that barely rode it. He sold it to me for such a great deal that I've spent more money on parts than the actual bike. After exhaust, jetting, airbox camshaft, piston and other random parts, 2/3 of the total amount of money I've spent was on parts... Buying parts is addicting when a relative works as motorcycle parts seller.

My first dirt bike was a 450x and as you said it was running very lean, barely would run it was so lean. The suspension even at my weight 285 felt really good even at stock. After seeing how light a 2 stroke felt on the trail I decided to go to a 2 stroke. I do love my KTM but to be honest I do miss my 450x. In older Hondas I hear there was a issue with valves but my 2012 never gave me or the fella who bought it from me any issues. I only mention this because I am sure someone will tell you about the valves. Wish I had a dollar for every comment that mentioned the valves haha. Stay safe

Yeah, shimming valves is not a big deal to me. I know Honda has a bad reputation with valves on some bikes. Chase had a CRF150RB and I had to shim the valves about every 10 hours, which was a pain. We’ll see how it goes with this bike. Thanks for watching!

@@DirtBikingwithDonnie I can agree with that. That carb is truly a pain to work on being stuffed in there. I have to remove the shock to put the carb in a position to replace the cables. Oh another reason I went with the R&D was that it had a brass needle. In the summer bikes I have used the aluminum needles on seem to have problems. This seems to be a known issue. I replaced mine and they seem to idle and start better when in hot conditions.

@DirtBikingwithDonnie
@DirtBikingwithDonnie 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I wish I had better news but working on the carb on this bike is somewhat difficult. The carb work itself is not difficult but access to the carb is. I found it easier to just remove the carb but that does require removing the exhaust, rear shock and lifting the subframe up out of the way. Getting the airbox boot connected back to the carb can be a real bear. I've found it easiest to reconnect the airbox boot while the shock is still out then remove the header pipe to allow you room to put the shock back in. If I can find time I would like to do a video of removing and reinstalling the carb on this bike. Tokyo Offroad channel has a good video of the process but there are a few details omitted. It's the best video on youtube I've seen for the process. Here's a link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ftV0lrmqy6iql2w.html

You can find good bikes for not a lot of money if you’re willing to take a chance on something that doesn’t run. Thanks for watching!

What did u do with axle set up after taking the mile thing off
@DirtBikingwithDonnie
@DirtBikingwithDonnie 3 жыл бұрын
I capped off the attachment point on the axle with a rubber bolt cap from Lowe’s. Secured it with a zip tie. Others have converted to the 250R axle but that’s more expensive.

Can you ride on a track with stock suspension? i weigh 165 but have never been on a track with it.

Yeah, I wouldn’t try triples but it will handle small to medium size doubles with no problem.

Does it give a real difference in terms of power?
@DirtBikingwithDonnie
@DirtBikingwithDonnie 4 жыл бұрын
Opening up the airbox and exhaust along with the jet kit increases low and mid-range power very noticably. The stock airbox and exhaust are very restricted.

I got that bike and I am not really good at doing mechanic stuff so what would be the best thing for me to do to it?
@DirtBikingwithDonnie
@DirtBikingwithDonnie 4 жыл бұрын
Does it run well and do you feel like you have enough power for your needs? If so, you may not need to do anything except ride it. Adding a skid plate is a really simple add on you might consider. Thanks for watching!

@@DirtBikingwithDonnie it is running lean
@DirtBikingwithDonnie
@DirtBikingwithDonnie 4 жыл бұрын
@@benmartin8029 The jets are probably clogged. The pilot jet in particular gets clogged easily on these. It's an easy repair but unfortunately the carb and jets are really hard to get to on this bike. You can get to the main jet and the pilot jet from the cap on the bottom of the float bowl but it's not easy. An adjustable pilot screw would help you as well but you'll need to remove the carb completely to do that.
